When she's just read from a document who gave her exactly that, and showed that her family were right about her heritage aside from middle eastern as well. Judging from her perceived intelligence however it may have said middle eastern one way or another and she missed it.

i think something that people fail to realize is that the test isnt to tell you exactly where youre from. but what genetic markers your DNA shares with certain areas around the world. It's not specific to your families ethnicities which throughout time can be confused with nationality (ie: youre filipino but you move to mongolia and as 1,000 of years pass your family just starts to say theyre mongolian so long as they dont migrate again)

Yea...nah, various things you have said here are just not correct. Everyone is a mix of various ancestors DNA, so to call Middle eastern groups "mixes" shows you don't understand how ethnicity is attained via modern and ancient samples, SNPs etc. Historically European countries, have had more back and forth migration than African countries, which are generally larger landwise and more difficult to traverse, this may mean it is easier to pin point the country of origin in regards to some African nations. Especially when the ethnicity percentage is high. If Ancestry can't find enough DNA "hits" from a particular country it will place you in the greater location eg. Western European, If you have French, German, Belgium, Netherlands etc DNA markers.

A better test is 23and me 💗 it tells you more important information including if/when you have kids if you are a carrier for diseases & conditions as well as genetic health risks for YOU to get inherited and lifestyle based disease (they also tell you: ancestry, overall health and wellness and traits and how your DNA has effects your taste smell etc.) ALSO my biology teacher recommended it so I'm going to assume it's pretty accurate + it's on sale now for Mother's Day
@jenny1992mcfc7 жыл бұрын
both ancestry.com and 23 and me are accurate, just need to know how to read the information properly and know where countries are. Only difference between the 2 is that 23 and me give you the information you've said in your comment whilst ancestry gives out a geographical pinpoint of where you're more likely to be from which helps when like say someone has 56% Europe West, the chart comes up with which countries are in Europe West and then they have a colour circle rid over the continent and where the colour is darkest that's where you're more likely to be from out of all the European countries if you get me. and ancestry gives you potential family members that have very similar dna to yourself so you can build your family tree up easier by talking the people that have similar dna to yourself
@KoRnKnoTTeR7 жыл бұрын
Correct on the Ancestry one. I preferred ancestry DNA over 23 and me because it gives you which countries you matched

Thank you for sharing this with us. I have been thinking about doing a test and would love to get my Dad to do it before he passes away. He is 92 currently. We know our Mom’s history and can trace it back to the 1500s. Dad’s side is more complicated as his mother would lie about parts of the family history on her side and didn’t feel the need to keep any historical information, items or facts. His father was disowned by his family for marring his wife. As his father’s work caused him to have to travel a lot they didn’t have the quality time to learn and share family history especially if their mother was around. Basically we know that on Dad’s side there is native Americans (Lakota Indians a Great Great Grandma), Irish, German and possibly the Netherlands and Austria. I do know that we are distantly related to Laura Ingalls Wilder who wrote the Little House on the Prairie stories. But it would be interesting to see if all of the genealogy research is accurate or not. Mom’s side is from Belgium.

Upload your dna to Gedmatch it will really break it down.. I actually uploaded my dna to many different dna sites to get more information.

I did the same. Gedmatch is the best, but there are also free upload options to Family Tree DNA, MyHeritage, DNA Land, Gene Plaza, and WeGene.

I was happy with my Ancestry experience. I like the pie chart. 23 and me can tell you what your traits are and some possible future medical conditions, but it cost a lot more.
@alfrancis87 жыл бұрын
I didnt quite understand when you said you were disappointed that the test didnt give you percentages but they did give you percentages breakdown. You mean more specific countries? Did you press the tab to view complete breakdown? They dont usually just say European... there is a breakdown there too. Anyway, yes you can download the raw dna and load them into sites like GEDmatch but also that is pretty much more complicated so you will need to really study how to read that.

I could tell you have a good percentage of Sub Saharan African DNA. Also, a good part of my DNA is Benin-Togo, as well. Seriously, we could be related via our Benin-Togo heritage. Get in touch bc I can help you with something that'll interest you. By the way Vanessa Williams the actress has heritage of Benin-Togo as well.

The word Mexico comes from "Mexica" which is a nauhtl word. Mexico has the most indigenous people in the Americas. Majority of Mexicans are mestizo (euro/native mix). Most immigrants from Mexico tend to be more indigenous (indigenous people face discrimination and live in poverty in Mexico). Obviously it depends, there have been immigration from Europe the past century and there were some Middle Eastern and Asian immigrations also. So depending on the person it may differ, but usually most Mexicans are indigenous or at least have majority indigenous blood.

“We’re all the same people.” I think what it comes down to is that every ethnic population is diverse and at some level is interrelated. This applies to different tribal groups that come from indigenous ancestry, especially for indigenous people in the Northern, Central, and Southern Americas. We’re all on one land mass that can be traveled somewhat easily. That means we’ve all been influenced in some ways by each other’s culture, society, and sometimes language. there are some native Amerindian Mexicans but they have different traditions and culture and history plus their first language is not Spanish that's a language that they learned in Mexican schools as they got older unlike 98% of the Mexicans that most Americans met 98% of Mexicans don't belong to an actual “tribe” or group don't speak a native language don't have an immediate blood relative who is Native Americans, they may have native ancestry but don't know what tribe, who or when that ancestor was everything is pure speculation. Native people in the U.S know what tribe or tribes they belong to even though some are mixed they have documented proof who was the Native American in their family, but most tribes only accept no less than a 1/4 than means 1 of your 4 immediate relatives is Native American. Plus native people never have taken on another identity they always call themselves by their tribal name or Native American. Unlike Mexicans, they call themselves, Hispanic, Latino, and etc.

The Ancestry DNA test not only shows you what the prediction of what you ancestors could've been AND the exact percentages of what you are. I think you should email them directly and say the problems you are having. I've did mine a couple of months ago and they had both categories on there.

For further knowledge, try out other DNA testing sites. Each one has a different test pool to compare your DNA to. You get some different results, and can verify what this one from Ancestry...

Ninah Talamantes No, only some Mexicans could be considered Native Americans (Aztecs/Mayan descendants). Most Mexicans are Mestizos and as mixed, they are descendants of both, Native Americans and Europeans, for the most part.

Nope. Mexican is a nationality. You can be of any race from Latin America. There are Arab Mexicans like Carlo's Slim, White Mexicans like Mitt Romenys father, black Mexicans, Mestizo Mexicans, and so on. My father is a blonde blue eye White Puerto Rican with the last name Ortiz. He's a white boy.

Okay, so after watching several of these genetic reveal videos, I think there's confusion about how these DNA tests work. Basically, you can inherit anything in any proportions from your parents/ancestors. So what will give you a better idea of where your family comes from would be to have your parents, grandparents, and if possible, your great grandparents also do the DNA tests, then you can see how the percentages vary by family member and see more about your ancestry and origins overall.

And the test also connects you with relatives, when you add it to your tree and someone else in the world you're related to does the same thing it will tell you. So if you have a half sibling you didn't know about you soon will. Also lets you know if you aren't related to the people you thought you were! The test is well worth the money! Always fully research what you're buying!

My family always told me I was 3/4 Portuguese & 1/4 Spanish. Not so much! 24% of me is Iberian Peninsula & the rest is 38% Greek & a mixing of English, Irish, Northern Africa and Asian! Who knew? Don't take the results too seriously. You are you & you're a very lovely young woman! Take pride in yourself & your ethnic diversity!

32% European? One of your grandparents could definitely be from Scandinavia or Northern England (where a lot of people are descended from Norse invaders). The test you describe distinguishes between 100,000 years ago (general regions) and 100s of years ago when many countries had modern names. You might want to run your results through Gedmatch.com to get more specific results. There's also a site called dna.land. Would be interested in knowing what you find.

You might not be Scandinavian because you didnt pick up that trait... your grandmother probably didnt lie to you... if you have a sister she could had got that trait... you can not take a DNA test for your whole family, you have to do it individually because everyone's DNA is different. ..

Ancestry did give you your MAJOR percentages. The sub categories just means that your genetic markers can also be found in those regions. However, it is impossible to pinpoint if your genetic markers are from one of the smaller percentage regions. You would have to know your true pre-North American lineage to be sure.
