Hey, physics major with an emphasis is astrophysics, retrograde means the “apparent backwards movement of a star or planet”. So from night to night Mercury is suppose to move from east to west in the night sky. Sometimes is looks like mercury is traveling from west to east. What is actually happening is that the Earth is passing Mercury. Like when you pass someone on the highway they look that like are falling backwards from you even though you are both moving in the same direction, you’re just traveling faster. Same idea happens to the planets during their orbits.

love this answer, and to add to it (since Cristine did question this) in a more related-to-zodiacs / astrology tone - Mercury retrograde (there's usually no "in", on that sentence) , has nothing to do with your horoscope or specifically much to do with your sign, it seems like it's more so a general "event" that is said to affect mostly everyone, because the planet mercury is retrograde during that time period.

Im here late, but my mom is like a professional astrologer, so I just know some stuff haha. Christine is asking "How do you know which planet is telling the truth?" @39:39 But basically, each planet represents an aspect of yourself. Obviously there's only 12 signs with assigned characteristics, but with 7 billion ppl in the world there isn't only 12 personalities. So the sun represents your main self. The moon represents who you are on the inside, like how you just naturally are. Your rising represents who you are in the eyes of other ppl. Venus represents how you act handle love and relationships. Mercury represents how you handle anger or conflicts. Those are the main things I look at when fully trying to comprehend someone's personality and just because that's all I want to know when reading people's charts. But the FULL CHART for the most part, represents your entire self/personality. (I don't feel like my entire chart is absolutely correct, but thats my opinion) I don't view astrology as like.. a strict guide on how to live my life, but more as a message of encouragement and things to keep in mind. For example, I'm an aquarius sun and my moon is in Pisces. I think looking back at myself as a child, I acted like a doormat. I was a people pleaser, which is a common trait for pisces. As an adult I keep that in mind, I try to stand up for myself more and set more boundaries. Even without astrology that is a good thing to keep in mind, but my theory is that: The way horoscopes and these descriptions are written, it prompts us to look at ourselves, recognize our short comings, and do what we can to be an overall better/more balanced person. Or in the other way, to look at what we're naturally good at, and to keep strengthening those skills/characteristics to our advantage. idk anything about the houses or how they work lmao. It's important to realize astrology is based more in feelings and not in logic, but sometimes that's okay as long as you're not being crazy illogical.

Just a quick gist: the sun is who you strive to become The moon is your emotion or your inner emotional world. The Ascendent is the personality and more so personally you Mercury is the way you communicate The planets go into certain houses and the houses describe certain aspects of your life. Like the 7th house is about partnerships. The time you were born figures out your ascending sign and which planets land in which of the 12 houses. P.S. When Mercury goes retrograde, challenges with thinking and communicating in a linear or direct way and delays with traveling and commuting can come up. 💖💖💖 P.S.S: the circle chart is all of you. I generally use my natal chart to self reflect on myself and how I act. It’s almost like a journal. And the planets moving through different signs and houses is something to reflect on while going through life. I don’t check everyday all the time but it’s something I go to when feeling down. Depends on your definition of success, I suppose. If she hadn't become popular on KZbin, she would have found some other way to be successful in herself. Even being famous on KZbin might not be what she considers success, but how she operates within it and saves money and creates what she wants, etc. However she personally defines success 😊 But I actually think that's a super accurate description of a KZbin job. People recognize her qualities and support her because of that, and she's succeeding financially because of that. The argument is that you are responsible because you are the sign you are, that those skills come natural to you because of it. To answer some of your random questions: It is important to note that the signs are constellations. When a "planet is in a house" it is specifically referring to where the planet is visible inside the constellation from the point of their birth. "The Sun is in Aries" means that the sun was in the Aries constellation if you were to look at it from where you were standing on earth at the moment of Ben's birth. Retrograde is an ASTRONOMY term, and is the term for when a planet appears to move backwards in orbit. Mercury is one of the planets that does this when you look through a telescope at the planet in the sky. (Mercury is in retrograde = Mercury looks like it is moving backwards in orbit.) I think that the Barnum Effect could be something you find interesting judging by your general tone of the topic at hand. Reading your chart - You are the circle in the center, the planet. The rest is the constellations and planets orbiting around you. The legend is the signs of each of the horoscopes. Those random symbols are the symbols for the constellations or the supposed image they make in the sky. The time of year you were born is a HUGE inflicting factor on your education. One of the main reasons I wish to end age segregation in school. I could actually (and have) write whole essays on this topic. You can be a man and still be a bitch. I'll second that observation. Not in a masculinity or toughness way either. In a sheer attitude way. lol Julian Day - The counting of days consecutively since the start of the Julian calendar. No B.C.E. or C.E./B.C. or A.D. lol Ben. "Stop solving our problems I just want to be mad for a minute damn it!" How do you know which is the one: It is all of them. As the human is complex so are the descriptions of them. Are you not contradicting as an individual? You dislike direct attention from people, yet at the same time have a love of creating for them on a public platform. (The Moon in Capricorn will find their success through other's realizations of their abilities. Did you think you'd be a multi-million KZbin Subscribers Influencer because you were just soooooo amazing at painting nails? Or did so many other people think you were that fucking cool, they watch your videos, buy your products, etc. Not saying you didn't earn this from your own hard work, more like saying other's think you're bigger pimpin' than you think you are.) Fun fact, you certainly can learn it in school if you take Astronomy. You don't learn about mapping and fortune telling, but you learn how the two developed because it is relevant to Astronomy. You also learn about it if you study certain histories. (This is how I have so much information on the topic.) Remember that Isaac Newton believed in Alchemy, which did eventually become Chemistry. MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION is that Astrology is just one of the first forms of ways humans tried to relate themselves to something larger than themselves. It seems more like a general grouping of stereotypes based on Astrological events. If considered historically, the sky was a particularly important entity and it is easy to see how it could be looked to as a source of information. It is, after all, a huge source of information about us as humans, the planet we live on and many other things, in other ways currently today.

Thats ot quite what the Julian calendar is. The Julian calendar still had 12 months. The primary difference is the Julian calendar doesn't have leap years causing the date to differ compared to the seasons and Gregorian calendar over time.

@@LUNUSt The Julian calendar (by Julius Gaius Caesar) is the one that doesn't have the slight adjustment of skipping 3 leap days every 400 years (specifically those in years that are multiples of 100, but not multiples of 400, so 1900, 1800, 1700, 1500, 1400, 1300, 1100 etc.). The Julian day however is the straight day number since either the start of year or start of century depending on context. On the chart drawings, you are in the middle. And the universe is all around you. The circle of signs is where those particular star constellations would have been back when the rules were made (they have rotated 2 steps in the sky since then).

I'm so excited you both did this!! I love astrology and always found it interesting that Ben is an Aries and Christine is a Libra (opposite signs) but you both are so compatible. I found it entertaining to watch you guys try and interpret it, but also would've been better to see the whole thing like your Mars & Venus planets too or have someone there to help explain some of this xD. It looked like you guys were skipping around a lot going from the natal chart, to the houses, to the trines/aspects, so it was very jumbled. The thing about astrology is you have to take each planets' alignment into consideration when understanding the rest of it. It is much deeper than you think lol. This is why when you read the Libra sun, you may not fully identify fully with it. Same with the houses, it's separate from the natal chart but you must take it into consideration when interpreting it. The info on these sites are very generic so you are able to interpret it. Also, I don't take horoscopes seriously because they are written more for entertainment unless you're getting a personal horoscope done by an actual astrologer. You could consider this all entertainment, but there is some math and science involved in finding the birth chart, and the more you read about it the more it helps you to understand yourself and the people around you. Of course you're not going to get a 100% personalized accurate reading from a free birth chart site, they have to make it general enough for people to understand. & its also more supposed to be like a guide, or a mirror to hold up to yourself, not an actual full "read" of your personality. This is just the state of nature. Nurture definitely plays a crutial part in how your personality forms, just like you guys were talking about. But at its core, this is who your soul was "born" to be. That's how I take it. Btw, I am a Libra sun too :)

This actually really frustrates me because theres no such thing as a compatibility test in horoscopes, its bullshit. Theres no black and white way to see this. You really either have to study astrology or hire an astrologer to discover the things about compatibility between two people. Because two people dont just have two signs, they have 9 planets in 12 zodiac signs in 12 houses, in differing degrees. Everyone's chart is completely unique. For example, someone who is born around christmas or other family festivity, does that affect the overall personality because of the general "warm" feelings around that festivity... Or someone born in summer. Do the seasons, temperature, sun-time affect us? It makes me think... that maybe it's not the stars exactly, but the conditions here on earth. I mean, the stars were just a way to know about the earth's repetitve cycle. It was a way to measure time and make the early calendars.

to answer ben's question around the 25th minute mark about the month of birth and how it relates to your sporting or academic achievement, it has been observed that many professional (canadian) hockey players are born in the months january, february, and march. and that's because the cutoff for age-class hockey is on the 1st of january. so if you were to compare a boy who's born in january and another born in december of the same year, the 11-month difference in physical maturity can give the january boy an upperhand. from there, he'll be drafted into better teams, given better coaching, get to play more games etc and eventually become a professional. you can check out malcolm gladwell's book Outliers: The Story of Success to find out more. they cover it in the first chapter!

I'm sure like a thousand people have said this already but just in case: Retrograde means that, due to the way Mercury and Earth orbit the sun differently, sometimes when we look at Mercury from Earth it looks like it's actually moving backwards in its orbit rather than the normal way it should - even though it is in fact moving as it should. At the time when it looks like Mercury is going backwards, that's called retrograde (this was quite puzzling for the first astronomers and influenced the way our solar system was originally mapped before it was figured out that it's not actually going backwards) Actually all planets go into retrograde at times depending on how fast they orbit but Mercury is the one that is most mentioned perhaps because it goes into retrograde for us more often than other planets. Mercury is the planet that supposedly represents communication and so people get super wary of it because it's thought that there are going to be a lot of miscommunications due to it looking like the planet is going backwards. Venus is also sometimes mentioned for retrograde and it's said that during that time there will be problems with love. Cheers!

Hi guys. I read something years ago about sun signs and the basic idea was that each is divided into three sections, so that a person will have the basics of their sun sign but depending on the date of birth, they could also have some traits from the sign before or after their basic sun sign. Using Ben as an example, his sun is in Aries but because he was born early in the time frame, he may have a chunk of the qualities from Pisces. It might soften things down a bit, making him a touch more mellow, more compassionate, artistic, intuitive, and wise. For Cristine, it's much the same. Libra sun but with Scorpio influences, making her just a tad more bold than the average Libra, along with being a bit more resourceful, brave, passionate, and at times stubborn (not a bad thing, esp. in business). Another fun thing: Aries and Libra are opposites, and are also known to generally be very compatible. Aries is ruled by Mars. Mars is also a co-ruler of Scorpio, so if Cristine has this as an influence over her sun sign, that would play into compatibility. Your approach to situations and emotions could be similar. :D
