I just stumbled across this video and I am happy I did. I moved to Canada 13yrs ago from the Caribbean and I can honestly say I still don’t know how to dress for winter. People always tell me to dress in layers which I interpreted as grab as many warm pieces as you can. Needless to say that I looked uncoordinated and frumpy. This was a wonderful breakdown! Thank you.

Love the different categories of winter! 😂 I see that there are a few comments about wet winters, and having lived in Scotland all my life (and having worked outdoors here in all seasons) I know a thing or two about this 😂 1) the concept of wearing thermals or base-layers next to the skin is critical in both wet and dry winters and thank you for reminding us about it Alyssa! 2) Wear water resistant shoes / boots and carry an umbrella at all times...this will enable you to look stylish when the weather is uncertain...take a cute pair of shoes with you to change into at your destination if needed! 3) Accept the reality that on days of very heavy rain, the only sensible thing to do is to wear waterproof outerwear (coat / trousers / footwear) and banish all thoughts of being stylish outdoors...and take a change of clothing (in a waterproof bag!) to your destination. As the old saying goes, "there is no such thing as bad weather, only inadequate clothing." 😃

This makes so much sense. I wish I had this video 2 years ago. I moved from a sub tropical climate with worst case scenario "hot winter" to scandi winter (-10 to 0 range). During the past two years I have had to learn a lot about which materials to buy (wool and cashmere make such a difference!!) and how to actually layer. I thought I knew before, I really didn't. These outfit formulas are so true and universal. I used to literally just have trousers, a blouse or light turtle neck and a blazer in winter. Usually with pumps or boots. All those clothes have been collecting dust since I moved since I have to deal with snow and actual cold. It has been really tricky because I didn't grow up with understanding the nuances of the different temperature bands. This video clarified things so much and really solidified what I have been figuring out for myself the past 2 years. Also a great travel guide!!! Thanks 😊

I always used to laugh at those who said Ottawa was so cold...until I was there over Christmas one year. It's definitely at least 5C colder! And yes, there really is only 1 outfit formula in the "No Thank You" zone (absolutely LOVED the reference)....dress so bundled that you don't freeze extremities!!! Thank you again for great outfit formulas! :) Cheers,

I run hot, and my biggest layering challenge is being outside in the cold, then coming into a cafe and sitting down for a bit. There's been a couple of times where I stripped my top right down to my black thermal top. (Luckily, that top doesn't look like a thermal, just a nice black long-sleeved top.) My formula for going to the mall is basically a t-shirt and a warmer jacket; i might add a scarf of whatever fabric is suitable for the weather/season. This formula works for me in Fall/Spring/Winter. The more layers you have on, the more you need to take off and store somewhere when you stay a while. I don't know if I'm just lazy or efficient, haha. I really love your suggestion of belting jackets and coats - am currently looking through my belts, gonna try it! Thank you so much for your inspirations. Have a great weekend!
