The sandbox is organically designed to allow the creation of emergent forms of gameplay, and also allow the enemies to adapt to the tactics used by players, the enemies adopt new weapons and gear, use vehicles and emplaced machine guns and mortars, helicopters, snipers, rocket launchers, grenades. I've been playing the same game for the last 3 or 4 years, extreme difficulty, enemies are real devils, quick and deadly, good in using cover and staying out of sight, they are hunters.
@marine123244 жыл бұрын
The one thing that bothered me about MGS5 that’s minor is the fact that snake does keep his weapon at the ready. Like I know he uses both of his hands a lot but he could always let his weapon hang before he acts but when he’s moving around and sneaking, he should have it ready to use. Not aiming down the sight but just at the ready.
@cesargonzalez41464 жыл бұрын
@@marine12324 You mean "he doesn't keep the weapon in his hands"? You're right, it also bothers me, it was a staple of the franchise. But we have to understand that now the player character (Venom Snake) can do a lot of things, and would be weird to suddenly disappear the gun into the invisible pocket every time he interact with the environment. Game development is all about compromises and limitations, many of the things, plots and mechanics brainstormed at the beginning were thrown away, even for a Kojima game. Shooting is not the point of Metal Gear Solid, it's meant to be a hard and clunky mechanic because it is more of a last ditch resource rather than the preferred method of playing, and even so the shooting mechanic in GZ and TPP is great, not a COD level FPS but some of the best TPS I've ever played.
@raiden13954 жыл бұрын
The cardboard box that you have is ideal for fooling your enemies. It’s a very important tool for infiltration missions. I can’t begin to count the number of agents whose lives were saved by a cardboard box. Look I’m not exaggerating when I say the success of your mission hinges on how you use that cardboard box. But in the end, a cardboard box is only made of paper. Handle it with care or it won’t be of much use to you. Don’t think of it as just another box. Treat it with love... Don’t be rough. Okay?

@T. O. I dont get the point of your comment. What are you getting at with that.

It's convoluted, because Kojima has no real understanding how an actual, polished presentation works. He realizes very good ideas by burying them under thick layers of nonsense, bad inhuman dialogue and whatever he thinks is cool (and they are pretty cool ngl). I don't need to replay a game 3 times in order to "get it", when all the major info can be summarized in few sentences. It's not artsy, nor smart, just wasting your time and demanding obsene amount of attention that is generally not deserved. The people that defend MGS5's plot are pretty much repeating what the trailers said, what previous games already established and the plot twist, thinking that's some big brain moves and they "got it". When in fact, the problem wasn't the story, but that a pretty awesome story takes the form of a boring, disjointed mess. Worse in Death Stranding, where if it was directed by an actual professional, it would have been one of the best cinematic stories of modern time. Instead it ended up being some uncanny melodrama for weirdos, because Kojima thinks 3 act is for idiots.

One of the things that sets MGS apart from other stealth/espionage games is Kojima is unafraid to make his games political. A lot of the mechanics and plots of the story are unconcealed critiques of western power structures and violence. Although, it doesn't ~fully~ come across to every player because despite being critical of these things it also makes the player partake in them by playing as Big Boss or Solid Snake. 7:57 I'd like to point out that the pill in Snake's tooth isn't a suicide pill. He has another pill (that he just takes as a regular pill) that he can use to fake his death by sending him into a "death-like state". The pill in his tooth is used to reverse the effect of the fake death pill. Although, if the revival pill isn't used soon after using the fake death pill, Snake actually dies. So the _fake death_ pill is kind of a suicide pill. On an unrelated note, the word pill doesn't look real anymore.

One of the regular themes you get from John le Carre's books is how resolution always winds up being compromised. The protagonists of his books don't really get to win or the victory is muddied by a world that's simply bigger than them. Even when George Smiley, one of his more consistent protagonists, beats Karla (his soviet counterpart) it's done in a manner he can't be happy with. Metal Gear loves to do that too. Snake Eater especially lands in a bittersweet manner and the repercussions of that shape the rest of the timeline.

As a person who devotes every nanosecond of his spare time into researching military history, technology and doctrine while also being a big MGS fan, a video on this topic was really needed for me. I was always fascinated by the pseudo-realism MGS had.It's realistic, and it's bullshit fiction at the same time.The guns (at least the types, brands, etc and descriptions)? Realistic.Nanomachines? Bullshit.But it works very well, mixing these two aspects together.They definitely put a lot of time into the military side of the games, like the clearing in MGS2 and countless others, plus all the "training" they got from Motosada Mori who is ex-SWAT.MGS3 is the epitomy of the military realism side of the games, even featuring some SERE stuff like survival skills.MGSV improved upon it. I also loved the way the games tried teaching players actual skills, the best example being Liquid's disguised Master Miller advice calls in MGS1, but the trend runs through all the main games, mainly MGS1,2,3 and 4. Despite this, the games are fun and lack anything even close to annoying realism. Thx for reading my long ass stupid comment.
