Real Life - Commando. This one-hour documentary follows a troop of Royal Marines recruits through some of the toughest military training in the world. Shows a less PC picture than 2003's 'Green Beret' and 2007's 'On The Front Line'.

Sgt Thompson is an excellent NCO,extreamly professional. He's tough but fair and he takes the time to explain things.Guys like him are rare.I had one or two decent instructors the rest were idiots or didn't care. The OC is sharp too.An organization is only as good as the people in it.Too bad society isn't really supplying troops as good as the staff that train them.Respect to the Royal Marines.

It's tough because their job is tough..... the Royal Marines basic training is the longest and toughest basic training in the World, it produces top quality fighting soldiers for a reason. The Royal Marines are envied throughout the World because of their training........ don't mess with their training methods. 🇬🇧🇬🇧✌✌

I'd never fired a weapon until I was in Marine Corps basic training but we did spend at least a week snapping in and learning the proper firing positions and sitting in them for hours. Being from America there were a lot of recruits that shot weapons before basic. Marine Corps has great Instructors that would fault themselves if a recruit isn't able to meet minimum standards.

Sounds like you get a lot more time shooting. That’s why USMC are superior shooters. We get good instruction but it’s all rushed and squeezed into a few range days. Also I think you must fire thousands of rounds compared to our few hundred.

I think todays usmc is far better trained technically then the past. The marines in the 60s may have been harder but todays marines are smarter technically and tacticly. They would be even better if they phased out the screaming and shark attacks.Treat the recruits like adults,no screaming no micro management like SF just tell them what to do and they'll either meet the standard or they won't.

Given the range (distance) they are shooting at this is bad instruction. Yes I served and yes I know what I am talking about. This is the basic application of the 4 marksmanship principles. You make a good point and I acknowledge the fact. However I wasn't comparing the two, I was stating that people always compare them which I find to be a fallacy for the very same reason you stated. The RM is much smaller than the USMC.. that's only logical considering the size/population difference of the UK and the USA. But like I said, my cousin wasn't a regular grunt. He was a highly trained Marine who was offered a career as a instructor at sniper school but declined due to his children.

I have thought about the comments made by the instructors about the standards of new recruits. I think that it could be advisable to take a similar policy to the Israelis in preparing their Naval commandos and Air Force commandos before moving on to commando training. I believe it would be very useful to have commandos go through light infantry training before moving onto commando training. First and foremost all commandos need to be primarily troopers. If a person is incapable of passing out of basic and advanced training he quite obviously cannot move onto commando training. This will allow the commando instructors to not have to be concerned with weeding out unsuitable candidates and more able to focus upon developing the skills and professionalism needed for the development of commandos of the highest standards. It will also allow instructors to fit more advanced commando training into the 31 week training period. I believe that royal marine training should include the basics of frogman skills. All recruits should be trained in how to breathe underwater with closed circuit breathing apparatus. This is currently not part of the course as I believe.

I could care less about a 1.5 mile time since most USMs make it to the half way point by no later than 10 minutes, its the other half that gets them. We dont stop 30 miler is a one time event, not an annual PFT qual. Its not a part of the annual quals. For that matter, the RMs dont have a structured annual swim qual either. I am proposing a new grade of support commando similar to that of a Para. All current Para regiments should all be upgraded to commando's. There is allot of good people that have failed in the RMC that could easily complete other specialist infantry.

Additionally the top estimate of lives lost in this incident is 5,000 not 7,000.
