Honestly, where all did you go in India for you to feel so strongly against it? Varanasi is very nasty and its kinda wack that you draw your hate from our worst city ; its like me walking into the nasty underbelly of your broke cities and towns like Buffalo or Detroit for that matter. Did you see Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Bangalore and still hate it? Did you venture into Himachal or Utarakhand to experience the Himalayas? Did you go to Rajasthan to see our palaces in the desert? Super confused here honestly. No hatred but the name fits you well with that type of commentary. By the way I am of Indian Origin raised in Canada so I do know what our world feels like as well

I don't think he over charged you. He took such pride in his work and treated you like a prince. He didn't have much as far as equipment but he had enormous skills. You don't know how many people he feeds with his $1.25/ per shave income. You should have given him at least another 25 rupees. Americans are so used to getting the princely treatment. Gratitude man! You have a good life and you can if you want to change a life in your wanderings. Look at these people as humans just like you, flawed as we all are but with a heart.. A foreign person comes around they feel honored to interact with you and to be your friend for a brief moment. They will go home and talk about you and how much fun it was to meet you.

Yeah, there is also something to be said from the human being side of things too about the sanitary comments in earshot. That's degrading, I enjoy seeing how other cultures live and that is why these videos are cool. But as annoying or disgusting as you may find something, these people are there to survive and getting told how gross everything is to your face is not very nice. What is frustrating for Indians is when foreign tourists only ever visit the same parts of the same cities and those are the worst parts. I always advise not to travel in those places, they're not representative of India at all, they're more like work hubs. The heart of India is in it's villages, where 65% of it's 1.4 billion people live, much more family orientated. Each state has it's own variety of peoples, festivals, languages, and traditions. Festivals are especially beautiful, vibrant and lively with music, noise and huge crowds of women and girls with long flowing hair and bright, sparkling colourful clothes, dancing in unison. It's like a never ending sea of colours, their clothes make everywhere you look seem like a kaleidoscope. Going to back streets of cities like this you will not see any of that. It's like visiting the US and only ever going to dodgy streets in the Bronx. Then telling people you dont like the US because of that. It's not representative.

My man, you didn't have the "drug" version of the Paan, it was without tobacco. Betel leaves (Paan) and a bit of betel seeds are not supposed to get you high, it's the tobacco in the Paan that does the job and has people hooked to it. The version you had was a meetha paan (sweet paan) which is but a dessert and an after-meal digestif, it actually is healthy, and you're supposed to chew and swallow this version, not spit it. The red spit is the tobacco paan. Not gonna lie I chuckled at you spitting it everywhere and thinking you're getting stimulated. Hope this will help you get the real thing on your next trip.

@@SUJAMUK Maybe because if anyone ever wanted to visit India as a tourist theyd get a more relatable viewpoint and opinion of what its like to be in India from another person who visited as a tourist? And speaking as an American myself most people here do not deny the criticisms of our country, and would not care if someone came here and had criticisms. Every American I know would agree with them. Obviously there are some people here that look at America as "The greatest country in the world", but alot of Americans dont feel that way. @@user-bf4rp8ou7w India is a huge country and just visiting one state doesn't give the true picture of the whole of India. It differs from state to state. Tourists going from India don't go round filming the homeless people sleeping in parks. There are lots of rough places in America. Where you go for holiday is your choice. But don't come to India all the way from America, spending so much money just to criticise and be sarcastic. India is a democratic country and you are free to film even the toilets. If you go to China you will not be allowed to film about how they treat the Muslims.

FYI ... that crystal thing which that barber used is Alum. Alum is used in cooking as well as for medicinal purposes. In Ayurveda, Alum (Phitkari) is used in the form of Bhasma (Pure Ash) called as Sphatika Bhasma. Alum can help to tighten the skin, minimize the appearance of pores, and reduce excess oil. It also has antibacterial properties that can aid in preventing acne and blemishes. Alum can also be used as a water purifier. When clean, drinkable water did not reach through pipelines, people used to drop a few small pieces of alum in a bottle of water and wait for the dust and particles to settle down before straining the rest of the clean water.

It's great that you're exploring alone and can feel safe to have your face shaved! I've known some Europeans who went to Goa and Calcutta, they were bowled over by the kindness of people. The video proves many people willing to chat and help you with good intentions. You have every right to keep your guard up and not let anyone distract you from your belongings. But like in bigger 'chaotic' places you have to take things on the chin in India. Imagine most of those people staring/following in cities are not like bees pestering you, but like excited little kids. Especially you have a camera, it suggests they might get on TV in USA if they follow you! I say the below not for negativity, purely to advise you how to fare better and understand India/other peoples better. I think you were raised to be casual when speaking to people. I'm not from USA but I lived there and had a USA male friend who was this way, the kindest person, very laidback. In case you'd ever visit somewhere more like Iran in future, err on the side of formalities. USA uses 'demands' "gimme a beer" "I need a single room". This sounds rude. But other countries uses 'requests" "One beer please" "Please may I have a room" This is polite. Even if you see locals doing something uncouth like spitting, that doesn't necessarily mean it's allowed. Some countries have penalties from police if they catch you spitting. I know you didn't swear or spit towards anyone, you just ended up doing these things nonchalantly. But imagine, a Florida shopping area, if some Indian man came around spitting green stuff, talking to himself with a camera, yes there might be drug dealers around a corner doing worse, but still it's not ok for him to spit. Advice for India but even any country, would be: -Don't talk to people who are eating (labourers may have to cram in their food on a short lunch break between a 12 hr work day!) -Don't talk to people while you are eating with mouth full -Don't spit in public. If you really need to get something out your mouth, carry a handkerchief/tissues and discreetly use that. Keep in pocket or in shirt sleeve. -Don't swear in public (even in English). It might be normal in USA to say "what the F/oh $hieet" but it's not normal everywhere else -Say please and thank you every time when asking for help -Speak more in a local language. I've never been to India but I know a quick mujhe pata hai and bhai.

Thank you for your travels, your exploration and your brave “go for it” attitude. We have heard there are three things you notice when in India. The noise, the poverty and the smell (not all bad) but overwhelmingly is the kind and friendly people. Be well brother!

Tamil Nadu is literally the filthiest state I've ever visited. Cities of Madhya Pradesh (Indore, Bhopal) were far more cleaner and better in every way possible. I would never advise anyone to visit the Indian North or the South, they should visit the Center.

Those yellow cars - are Morris Oxford series II - called Hindustan Ambassador. That white crystal after shaving is 'alum' - a hydrated double sulfate salt of aluminium - which has disinfection properties. The red fruit is Jujube, pronounced 'kul' in local Bengali. You're supposed to eat the skin and the flesh, dispose of the seed. It can also be used to create condiments like chutney.

You looked really good after your shave! I was glad to see at least one pretty decent place , but I would never go to that country. I’m in Georgia (Woodstock) and I think you are very brave to travel around alone like that. I am looking forward to your videos. Be safe. Merry Christmas!

That crystal block acts as an aftershave. It's Alum. And yes, the barber did a pretty good job. You looked good post that shave. And speaking of clean cities, did you get a chance to visit Indore, or the tri-city region of Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula? I strongly request you to visit the above mentioned cities. And if you do visit Chandigarh, kindly let me know here. It'll be an honour to host you at my place. All the Best!
