I’m amazed with how effective these turned out, you should bring them on a shadiversity test episode just to see Nate and Shad’s heads explode. Especially against a proper shield or armor.
@bolbyballinger
@bolbyballinger Ай бұрын
Yeah, I don't think it's getting through a real shield. He had a big advantage against the round plank of wood because it was flat, a shield's curve gives it structural strength that the plank lacked. There's also the way it's held. The plank was held by its sides and punched in the middle. Meanwhile a shield is held more or less from the middle and thus is much more sturdy.
@kevinmorrice

@@bolbyballinger but to be fair, even against a real shield its going to rock the balance of the person holding it, its basically a sledgehammer kind of hit, the force alone would be enough to throw off the opponent
@geoshark12
@geoshark12 Ай бұрын
@@bolbyballinger it being round or not depends on the type of shield like the viking shield is flat , and held from the middle allows it to pivot if hit hard enough,( they held it like they did for safety reasons ) and while theres no outer ring holding that together i can see these bing effective

@@marcogenovesi8570 yes but their also not nearly as common. whether that's because their illegal in a lot of places so not really produced or another reason I'm not sure. though inferior really depends on the user since there's been people who survived numerous stabs from a knife. while someone like Mike Tyson would potentially be able to make a human skull look like a watermelon. since he had/has a estimated punching force of 1600ft lbs/ 2169 joules. while it only takes 1100ft lbs/ 1491 joules to break a skull

Brass knuckles are more about force concentration. They add some mass, but for the most part their increased damage is the result of putting the same amount of force into a smaller area. These are definitely about adding mass, might lower speed and make a minimal impact on force but increases momentum by a lot. Plus there is some force concentration as well.

I do believe cinder blocks are punched (bare fist) by some martial artists, but you have to be pretty damn good to do it. Without either a large amount of time spent training or some sort of protection for your wrists, like these fists, you're more likely to just break yourself. My taekwondo master can break cinder blocks, for example, but if I were to try I'd likely just kill my own wrist. Probably a few months at least, or more realistically a few years given university, before I can work my way up to cinder blocks.
@Roovka_

I definitely think you had a better idea to show the durability of the gloves and what kind of feedback you'd feel punching towards the end when you started punching the tree, I think you needed a more "solid" analogue to hit to really send the idea of these gauntlets home.

You should plant some banana trees in the shadlands, they would be great to test this thing. Also great to test cutting weapons. They grow very fast and, after they produce the bananas, that tree needs to be cut down anyways, so you would soon have a pretty nice amount to test your stuff on

I'd like to see a follow-up on this against targets that are much sturdier. A lot of the force you were putting out with these gauntlets was dispersed into a target that would then tip over or fly away or break off etc etc. If you punched something that wouldn't move, all that force would be put back into the weapon and subsequently, whatever it's attached to. That would be the real test to see if the design is capable of protecting the wielder from that force. Really neat concept, and I love the idea of this type of fist weapon!

i like it. i'm curious as to whether he's ever tackled the idea of making at least one Lego weapon, as a full sized thing. i'm thinking a Ninjago sword, the one Zane uses in the movie, looks like it could be made out of something like a dense hard wood, red oak or a nice thick branch from a burled maple. either works or it could be made out of metal, somehow.

fyi "cinder blocks" paving blocks etc are basically cement with out gravel that you can see. They use cinders small fragments of non combustible material left over after you burn wood in place of gravel. They are quite strong in compression (the blocks or pavers) but are brittle to impact and break "easy" You can knock holes in cinder blocks with little trim hammers that are 6 or 8 oz. Your fists are working because the lion head has many small impact points allowing you to break through. Not saying they would not really mess someone up if you hit them they would and would do so because of that same reason and you are adding mass to your punches.

Man, those worked much better than I expected! I wonder how effective they would be if the target was fully supported instead of on a stool? Since you have the door knockers, I wonder how much damage you could do to a door? Judging by the "shield" test, I bet you could force your way through a door.

To really test the shock asorption a pretty easy method would be to have punched the concret block along the cross section while it was on the ground. Also can really see how much force can be transferred against a more rigid target. Punching the tree is not terrible, just doesn't really show just what your punches could do.

Shadiversity video idea: how good/destructive are proper mitten gauntlets as a weapon, if you dont have any other backup weapons on you anymore? Could be looking at different scenarios: battlefield (both armoured, vs weapons), duelling (unarmed vs sword etc, hits on the gauntlet obviously dont count so you can parry with them) and so on.

there's another fist weapon similar to the "Hercules Fists": the Hands of God, from Demon's Souls. they fit well with your analogy of how draining to your stamina the Hercules Fists are to use (as in you used a Soulsborne UI). the bars of steel you used made me ask a question: i wonder if you could make a shortsword out of them? it wouldn't be the right kind of steel for a functional sword, granted, but i genuinely wonder if you could make a shortsword with a large enough bar of steel.

i once made something like that out of a thick metal vase i found in a basement, i broke off the legs, put some cloth in it to fill dead space and then punched an old wooden door resting against a wall... i punched right through, cracking the brick behind it, paint flakes just splintering around... hurt like hell tho because i created that thing in a minute from scrap... in a cave... but i think whats interesting is that the kinetic energy you create with those is kinda different from swinging a weapon like a hammer, instead of relying on the weight, momentum and muscles, this felt more like shoving my body weight concentrated into the punch as primary fuel... maybe like a spear thrust? speed ram... so i wonder what this would do to metal and armor.... car doors? also given that our legs are way more powerfull, what about a full metal boot... high heels are already categorized as weapons in some american court cases i think

I think the reason these kinds of weapons were not used historically isn't because they didn't work it is simply because well having your hands constantly full is sort of a handicap. Plus take a piece of metal of equivalent wait and put it on a stick and well you get a mace of hammer for one but you also get a more powerful weapon which doesn't constantly bind up your hands. Then their is also reach which well i think that one is pretty obvious.

He did a way better version of some gloves I made to use a tree as a punching bag. Using gorilla tape, sponges, rope and shirts, these gloves are able to absorb the force of me punching large, heavy trees. This helped me lose 20 pounds, so I’m proud to have used them for personal boxing training. These metal reinforced gloves wolf be the next logical step in use as weaponry from that sort of training, being able to train the body to swing heavier weight in the hands.
