The issue about garage parking is not so trivial to dismiss. That's because the EV will be charged in the garage, which is much less practical anywhere else. Therefore, being able to fit the vehicle in a single bay garage is important for any vehicle, and critical for EV owners.

A good point. As an aside though, the Tesla Wall Charger can apparently be installed and used outside, and they show it installed just outside a garage. So, an option, though maybe not a sufficiently convenient one for most.

i would guess that over 50% of current US pickups dont fit in their garages. of course here in texas 90% of garages are used to replace their non-basements. i charge outside every night, being the 3rd vehicle in a 2 car garage.

@@scottmcshannon6821 You make a great point about full size pick-up truck fitting into garages. Over the years we have seen regular cab bed length shorten, and the introduction of crew cabs, which has caused some pick-up beds to shrink to ridiculously absurd short lengths. I think you might agree, that your traditional concept of a pickup truck is gone. Modern trucks are converging on SUVs, and they are more likely to park into garages. But I still concede your point, because right now, despite trucks costing as much as luxury sedans, some people still park them outside. I would also add that cyber trucks are not targeting traditional truck owners.

Sam, I live in Colorado at 9,600' altitude, and we are in the same climate zone as Alaska. We get on average 12' of snow in winter, and I've seen a low of -30 deg F. By November our ave temp is below freezing and it doesn't make it back up above freezing until May, so yeah, we prefer a garage. How much snow do you shovel a year in Australia? Also the size is very important to me. My garage is 237" long, and the Cybertruck is 231"? Only have a door on one side. So even though it might barely fit, I can only get in from the driver's side and can't access the rest of my garage without opening the main door when the truck is in it. Hopefully this begins to make sense. Ever tried to work on something when the temp is -10F and the wind is blowing 40 mph? (changed a clutch) I have, it sucks!

When I actually saw a Rivian pickup up close, it was smaller overall than I expected it to be. T thought that was a good thing. If the cyber truck is coming in at around 76 to 78 inches wide, that is a good size and if it’s normal ride height is around 72 to 76 inches tall, that is also a good.thing. I personally think if it will fit in a standard 7 foot (84”) tall and 19 foot long garage, it will be a good size for the truck and enhance its sales potential. While the main target is the US market, being a bit smaller and lighter will help in the overseas markets.

In the USA, normal sized pickups are approaching the size of semi trucks. Literally. There are F250 dually pickups that are as wide as a semi truck on the highways now. Any complaints about how the Cybertruck is too big is laughable when literal houses are being driven on highways right now.

These outside measurements don’t really matter.. due to it being electric and their improved manufacturing I propose that we will have as much if not more cubic space in the CT than a Ford 150. You gotta remember there are lots of parts that an ice truck has to fit in it that a CT doesn’t.

Unless the CT's body is 2" thick, it won't necessarily have more than the F150. None of the mechanicals are too much above the frame rails in either vehicle. It will be interesting to compare the hip and shoulder room in both.

That's ridiculous for talking heads to say considering how many people fill there garages with JUNK, they can't even park in their garage anyway. I live in the great white North... Alberta Canada where it can drop to -30 C to -40 C in the coldest days of winter, and it seems half the people here with garages use them for storage, not parking! No Garage would ever stop anyone from buying a truck if they want or NEED one. (Well maybe downtown NYC)

Many people have reasonable concerns about leaving vehicles outside, where they can be molested. In America, anyway. But surely the Cybertruck CAN fit in most home garages; it's big but not huge.

Measuring a vehicle has always been tricky. When they measure the outside dimensions do they include mirrors and bumpers, including a hitch? The wheel wells should be included and the tires are supposed to be inside the wheel well. Height is relatively easy but with the CT it needs to include suspension adjustments so a minimum and maximum height should be listed. Interior dimensions have always been a joke. Leg room and head room depends on where you're measuring from. I like seeing a tape being used but the only way to measure the width would be to use measuring stands perpendicular to the ground, moved around on both sides to find the widest part--measuring the distance between the stands. As for making the CT short and narrow enough to fit into a garage can be critical for home owners who are required to garage their vehicles overnight (stupid CCRs). I live in the Pacific Northwest of the USA and ferries charge by length and height. I have seen trucks checked at the ticket booth with a tape measure. Too long or tall and you pay a bunch more. Parking lots can also have height restrictions, some that are crazy low so having a vehicle that can go anywhere will save people money.

I have cabinets on the wall of my garage so my Honda Accord fits fine, but I don't think this monster truck would fit, I've measured in the past and I think I'd need to remove the cabinets to closed the garage door. Newer houses might have larger / longer garages than my old house does.

(Re-view the Jay Leno interview / road test in 2020, Elon said that the initially "thought of" 3% size reduction made it "uncomfortablly small" (Elon thought he would only revisited that idea for "Tiny-Car" countries in the future - not that non commercial trucks area demographically significant in most of the world, where a van is more accepted than a "Ute" for "carrying stuff" - Australia and America may be similar in our love affair with small non commercial pickups/utes - Ok Lots of "3rd world countries do love their old Hiluxes.) BTW, a proper truck has the ability to take the "factory tub" off and put a custom tray / box / etc ion the back.. This is totally a truck for city slickers - like the Rivian R1T.

Allow me to enlighten you, sir: 1) Theft; 2) Vandalism; 3) Rodent damage; 4) Lack of street parking; 5) Unintentional damage by people; 6) Better rates on insurance and 7) May not otherwise want to draw attention to yourself. I say they haven't. My guess is that the original design was scrapped to add a gigacasting(s) to the structure, and probably moving to LPF batteries as well (although the battery swap isn't a big deal).

@@ohger1 I expect there have been many changes since the original design. Air suspension and rear wheel steering. The GigaCasting. Should be a better truck. Crash testing and trucks running around with RC on them tells me the design is as finalized as Tesla designs get. The battery is the CT 4860 with 10% more energy density. The presence of gigaCasting(s) indicates Tesla intends this to has significant production.

It’s funny to listen to Australian and US residents complain that their garages are too small. In old European cities, we struggle to find parking at all. For those lucky enough to have a newer building with indoor parking the standard parking space is only 8x16 feet. My space is enclosed and I can only park my Kia Niro with the mirrors folded. My next car will have to be smaller than a Kia Niro.

There are neighborhoods in the US with Homeowner Associations and those associations REQUIRE all vehicles to be parked in the home's garage. Garages cannot be used for storage or hobbies if that prevents the designed number of vehicles from being parked in them. No parking on the street or driveway is allowed. They will issue tickets and call tow trucks to disappear your vehicle. 20 years ago I backed out of buying a house after I found that detail in the fine print of the rules. Other crazy stuff like getting approval for curtains because they are visible from outside the house. Some Associations are filled with control freaks.

Only market is the us . Dimensions to big for Europe and other countries so very small market . Major disadvantage why it’s not popular is it’s not practical. You cannot access the truck bed from the sides. Only through the rear with the tail gate down . Unfortunately it’s really just a show piece not practical
