That was the best Overtime EVER - and I have seen them all, literally. Bill, invite guests that are willing to debate, and give them their space, then a great discussion like this will be the result. Also, run Overtime longer, like this one. 8-9 mins is too short...

This is how the Televised debates like CNN and FOX holds should be like. People arguing over their ideas, making points, finding common ground and understanding, and agreeing to disagree sometimes. Then, in the end of it all, shake hands and respect each other. CNN and FOX have shouting matches where the host continuously tries to be the loudest and claims to be the most true.

I'm Russian and I have yet to meet one Russian living in the U.S. who isn't a conservative. Maybe it's cuz they have PTSD from living in the socialist communist USSR. It explains why Kasparov is so serious. Dude means business. I wanted to hear more of what he had to say.

Oh my gosh they did it! Every week since it's been on KZbin (about 7 weeks now) I've asked for Overtime to be 20 minutes, not the usual 6 minutes, this online episode hit 20 minutes. I think this is a record, even from when it was only on the HBO website. PLEASE keep doing this. Hosting on the internet is free (relatively), or at least the same price as when you go 6 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 ---- or heck 45 minute online show, you aren't really spending much more and it will lead to more people doing Facebook shares if there is more content and more topics covered on Overtime. Good episode tonight. :)

***** People tend to be less humored by things that caused millions of people to be slaughtered. I'm polish and I laughed, but I know many people that would go for a punch to the face instead of a polite remark. That's like someone making a 9/11 joke or a Sandy Hook shooting joke. Might be in bad taste if people that were close to the events are present.

I think that the mid show interview should be, once a week, with a totally random person. Would work like this: today we have a Brazilian guy, or we brought a homeless guy from Baltimore, or here's a South African photographer, even a housewife from OC... I don't know... The sky is the limit... Btw, I'm a Brazilian guy if u dig the idea.

Garry Kasparov was right on money. Bill Maher's isolationism and lack of human compassion makes me sick. There are rogue actors and terrorists in the world and they must be confronted, not ignored. When you do nothing against evil and sit on the sidelines, you allow evil to flourish and eventually it will come right back to you.
@ubuu7
@ubuu7 9 жыл бұрын
TheSasss1 Bill just takes the disgust at our involvement and the problems its caused abroad too far. He thinks that because we can't do EVERYTHING and solve EVERY problem means we can't and should not try to do anything. That of course, does not follow.
@valgehiir
@valgehiir 9 жыл бұрын
TheSasss1 I can see Maher's point of view very well, especially since the major fuck ups US has caused in Mid East. But US needs to stand up when major injustice in the world happens, Bosnia is good example, and Kasparov bringing up US tanks in Estonia and Latvia is a good example. Without NATO and US, both Estonia and Latvia would be easy target for Putin, Putin would grab Baltics back to his sick Novorussija in a heartbeat, right now he isn't taking the gamble.. and that is because to US!
@Kozar33
@Kozar33 9 жыл бұрын
TheSasss1 Totally agreed. Maher is totally clueless on many things. Especially when he speak about Europe. He's so out of touch, I highly doubt he could find Europe on a map. But then again, his best argument 'Garry, shut up!' is enough for some people.

TheSasss1 lol Bill Maher didn't even know who had control of the Congress and Senate hahahaha .. WTF Liberals and Conservatives have wrecked this country PERIOD! I mean god damn, as adults we can see these fools are just winging it ... And Iran is a Big Mistake, as what was said now everyone wants a Nuclear program ... WTF Pull the fuck out and let them fight each other, then when the dust settles, we go in with Russia and kill the rest and redo the middle east ...
@7asano5
@7asano5 9 жыл бұрын
valgehiir The problem is that the US goes in for reasons that are right for itself. If it truly did stand up for injustice there are many things it would do differently. When it armed the afgans long time ago it was because Russia was gonna take over and they will benefit from stopping them. The problem is they dont go in for the right reasons, even though that is what they think. They want to help people in syria was the reason for syria, really??. Is it not because syria is with iran and getting rid of basher is good for the US??. Until it actually becomes something that the US will benefit from, they wont care much about solving the problem.

Spy satellites are actually covered by the Defense Budget (2015-> 554 billion $). NASA's all about non-military space exploration as well as earth- and spacebound scientific research (Budget 2015 -> 17.9 billion $).

We in Canada watch in horror as America tears itself apart. There is much hate and anger in the hearts of Americans. Why, with so much to enjoy from free institutions do so many Americans suffer from soul-destroying fear of anyone who isn't white, who doesn't speak English or who isn't Christian? We have people who need a daily dose of vengeance here in Canada too - and it's becoming more noisy and more visible. Wolfe Blitzer asked a rhetorical question about where the principles of peaceful protest extolled by Martin Luther King Jr. had disappeared to in Baltimore protesters. Well, from my point of view, there has never been any signs that peaceful protest created final peace between whites and blacks in America. Don't you wonder if perhaps instead of private individuals, crazed white people, who in the past got away with hanging black men from the boughs of trees have simply, in the 21st century, put on a uniform? Has "lynching" become a state solution in American cities?. Instead of hanging black men from a tree, are Americans getting away with storing them in jails or shooting them in the streets? A black man in the White House, notwithstanding, has anything really changed?

Live Bill , and I don’t think he was trying to make a Holocaust joke, but it was rather tactless of him, and it’s easy to see how it could be misunderstood. Nobody’s perfect. Nice to see 2 people make peace after a misunderstanding.

'Wake me up when Putin is in Poland' joke is slightly off. Two good reasons - Russia has attacked and annexed Poland, killed Polish civilians, slaughtered Polish officers in camps, all in agreement with Germany in 1939. Secondly, Ukraine war shows everybody how real of a danger Putin is to Europe! So it would be a joke like 'Wake me up, when Hitler starts killing Jews' Not funny, cos he DID kill jews. Same with Putin in Poland jokes. Kasparov was right to question Maher.

So basically you're saying Poland would have no resistance at all? He said when they invaded which isn't a instantaneous win. Within hours we could have predator drones cruise missiles and stealth bombers all over their ass and that's just a few thing off the top of my head. No he won't invade Poland. Hell he was surprised how much we cared about Ukraine. Which is why no officially Russian troops are there but they supply all kinds of hardware to the "Rebels".

Gamesman01 I would not bet on NATO coming to defend Poland with full force, cruise missiles and stealth bombers. I would bet Merkel and Obama will put out some 'strong' statement, and thats pretty much it. US will never go for nuclear war with Russia over minor NATO allies such as Poland, Baltic states.

Wow; Dan Senor is more obnoxious than any other guest I've seen on Bill Maher, including Al Sharpton, Bill Krystal, Dinesh D'Souza, and many others. I didn't think it was possible. What alternate universe is Dan Senor living in? It's like someone compressed Fox News down into a singularity. Senor gives even paranoia a bad name. As a nerd, I'm embarrassed; and on behalf of all nerds, I hereby disown Dan Senor; there's a difference between a nerd and a delusional, shrill weasel......

The way this Kasparov guy talks about Putin and Russia is very reminiscent of the way that Cubans in America talk about Castro and Cuba. It's based way more off of blind hatred than it is about things that are actually wrong with their leaders. There are perfectly legitimate criticisms of Putin: LGBT rights, increasing the religiosity if the country, the rampant corruption allowed in the country that he is probably taking place in, etc. But the comparisons to Hitler, thinking that he is going to try to take over Europe or invade a NATO country is fucking ridiculous fearmongering bullshit, said in an attempt to gather American support against him. What the fuck does he want us to do? Go to war with Russia? I don't care if he takes all of Eastern Europe, it's not worth one American troop, those countries should have never been allowed to join NATO, this shit is not our problem, and he's not going to do anything to the Eastern Bloc countries anyway. We are the ones encroaching on the Russian sphere of influence, I'm with Bill, this shit isn't our problem. Unless he's taking over France or the UK, I don't give a shit. Edit: Arming Ukraine is the most retarded thing that we could do. Before our equipment would even get there, the real Russian army would be all the way at the Polish border. If you want the US to arm the Ukrainians that you are essentially saying that you are in favor of the reunification of Ukraine and Russia.
@Illlium
@Illlium 9 жыл бұрын
markalexander774 Did you even listen to what Kasparov said? America promised Ukraine's territorial integrity in exchange for giving up their nuclear weapons and USA didn't do shit when Putin annexed Crimea. This is not about what is right to do, this is about what America promised to do, signed by president of the country. If that means nothing then you have absolutely no pull in any deal with anyone in the future.
@quvertysmith7545
@quvertysmith7545 9 жыл бұрын
Illlium Bullshit - nothing that America promised is "binding", as per the US Embassy. Or is it only binding when it suits them? Here's all you need to know: minsk.usembassy.gov/mobile//budapest_memorandum.html
@markalexander774
@markalexander774 9 жыл бұрын
Illlium If Kasparov said that than he is wrong. America did not promise Ukraine's territorial integrity. The Lisbon Protocol was only signed by Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. Russia guaranteed the integrity of Ukraine not the United States, this is not our problem. And the Western powers, the Yanukovych government, the opposition at the time, and Russia all agreed to a deal back in February of last year too, but the current Ukrainian government (which back then was the opposition) reneged on the deal and overthrew him anyway, in what only can be described as a coup. Once you start pulling off bullshit like that than what do you expect? Ukraine was the first one to not honor their deals, not Russia. And do you want a nuclear war with Russia that would kill every single person on this planet? Are you that retarded and/or evil that you want everyone on earth to die? Or is your argument that we should give the Ukrainians weapons? In which case, you want all of Ukraine to become part of Russia. So are you a Putin shill that's trying to get America involved so that Russia can take all of Ukraine? Or are you just an idiot. Either way, fuck you, I don't want one American tax dollar going to this conflict, this isn't our fight, this isn't even in our neighborhood.

markalexander774 "There are perfectly legitimate criticisms of Putin: LGBT rights, increasing the religiosity if the country, the rampant corruption allowed in the country that he is probably taking place in, etc" Those are issues that no one outside Russia can do anything about and therefore no one cares. Also those are issues that are worth criticizing the US for. "But the comparisons to Hitler, thinking that he is going to try to take over Europe" The comparison to Hitler is actually fitting because Putin is an Ultra- nationalist fear mongering despot that wants to return his country back to its former empire status. He IS trying to take over Europe. He is invading and stealing land from the neighboring countries i.e. Crimea. " I don't care if he takes all of Eastern Europe" Tyrants like Putin love it when people like you say things like that. It's what gives them the power to do whatever they want. "and he's not going to do anything to the Eastern Bloc countries anyway" You appear to be uninformed... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annexation_of_Crimea_by_the_Russian_Federation " We are the ones encroaching on the Russian sphere of influence" No were not. Those eastern bloc countries Chose to join NATO voluntarily because they don't want to have anything to do with Russia or be in their sphere of influence. Those countries are sovereign and are not under Russia's control. "Unless he's taking over France or the UK, I don't give a shit." If he ever gets to that point it will be too late to stop him. "If you want the US to arm the Ukrainians that you are essentially saying that you are in favor of the reunification of Ukraine and Russia." That is some broken ass logic right there. What you are basically saying is, selling weapons to a country so they can rightfully protect their own sovereignty will encourage another country to invade? Putin will keep illegally annexing other countries until he is forced to stop.

Best Overtime in a while. I love the passion of the guests, but finally some real discussion as to the why's and wherefore's of income inequality and why this "recovery" has only worked for the 1%. The rest of us are simply hired to shine their boots and buy their organic meals from Whole Foods. Two Americas. The rich, the healthy, the educated. Then the rest. Even doctors and lawyers are finding it hard to make ends meet. It's all about business.
