@@Rottingboards Well first of all I can find nothing about a Dodge CEO getting a $10 million raise, did you mean Stellantis perhaps? They don't get paid more for making more expensive trucks, they get paid more by the shareholders for meeting whatever contract stipulations are there or otherwise performing well. When the government makes vehicles more expensive to make because of supply chain mismanagement, irresponsible spending, inflation etc. the CEOs make more money to deal with it. They'll get some kind of raise whether the stuff gets more expensive or not if they get the company does well enough. They have at least some incentive to control their pricing...but the government? The highway fuel economy is not far off from what my 2014 1500 5.7 gets. I measured around 21 MPG last time I took a trip out of town going from Columbus, GA to Atlanta, GA and back. Mostly highway driving between I-185 and I-85 and a bit of city driving mixed in. I got roughly the same going to Macon and back on US-80. I honestly don't really see this as a win with these new engines, especially considering that even though the I6 is more powerful once you start to actually use that power the fuel economy is going to drop like a stone when the boost kicks in. I really want to see how the fuel consumption compares to the Hemi in a 2024 while towing on this same trip. If the results end up being the same or the I6 does worse, then that will pretty much kill any justification in my eyes for going with a new 1500 over an older one at the dealerships besides the overall pricing.

I pulled a 5,000 LB trailer from N.C. to Alaska through Canada on the ALCAN with my 2023 Wagoneer with the I6 SO Hurricane and it did great. No issues what so ever. The I6 is a great engine from what I can tell, prior to pulling the trailer, I Shipped it from Hawaii to California, then drove it to N.C. to pick up the trailer. I want them to put the I6 SO Hurricane in the gladiator.

Many thanks to TFL Truck for getting a long Tradesman std output Hurricane for testing!! Looking forward to the Ike and the 100 mile highway towing efficiency!! This could be the sweet spot for 1/2 truck for travel trailer towing. Very interested to know if RAM has helped the 1500 cope with tongue weight, WITHOUT mega sag. In the past, coil sprung rear has meant overly tight WD to keep the dolphin-ing away, and that puts a lot of pressure on the TT A-frames. Thanks again!!

I averaged 21.7 MPG in my 2017 Ram 1500 5.7 Sport, crew cab, short bed with 3.92's and a lot more options doing a 1400 mile round trip. I don't think these new trucks are designed for efficiency as much as they are for towing/hauling experience. That extra torque coming on earlier will definitely help. I also made the same trip in my 2020 2500 6.4 Longhorn and got 19.4 MPG.

I have had 3.92 axles in my last 3 trucks. With overdrive transmissions it doesn't affect the fuel economy. I am a retired Chrysler product tech. with 45 years in the business. I had customers that had 3.23 axles in their trucks that got worse mileage.

At 1600ish pounds of payload, it puts it quite a bit lower than the Titan XD. Though, the power and mileage are both substantially better in the Ram. Will be interesting to see how this motor holds up over time, and if it gets hybridized later on.

That mileage was possible because there's no huge elevation changes so the turbos are not spooling up
@Cloud300002 ай бұрын
It’s an empty\unloaded truck, so the turbos are not needed to hold speed at 65-70mph even during heavy elevation changes. It’s towing where the elevation change really works those turbos and sucks down the gas.

Acceleration does it, too.

No huge elevation change but Iowa is hilly. I usually get much better mpgs in Illinois and Nebraska than I do in Iowa.
@matt455402 ай бұрын
Turbos generally improve fuel efficiency. Unless you spoil them up aka getting on the gas. Turbos run off of exhaust gas, a turbo does not use fuel

@@Cloud30000 not true. At legal highway speeds here in Texas, in order to maintain the speed limit on hills, I guarantee that motor will be under boost. Not max boost, but it will be under boost.

Wow! 57K was the MSRP on my 2019 Rebel. Also, the cash on the hood from RAM was $9,500. So I picked it up at 48K. Stallantis has raised their MSRPs over 50% in the last 4 years. Double the inflation rate over that same period. Their CEO is killing CDJR, gouging US customers, while increasing his compensation to $36 million.

I have a concern about the use of 87 octane fuel . I notice you do it all the time. The owners manual for my 2016 Ram 5.7 Hemi says 87 octane and lower is not recommended. And I can’t imagine that it would be adequate for the Turbocharged 6 in the new Ram!
@Cloud300002 ай бұрын
That’s just for power; if they say “required”, it will cause issues and possible damage. If they say “recommended”, it just means it will cut timing so it will run fine but at slightly lower power levels.
@gs989992 ай бұрын
Most new turbo cars/trucks/Suvs these days are built to run 87 in their turbo engines. It's easy for engineers to program this out of the factory.

Interesting to see what the efficiency is for this new engine. My F150 5.0 has a slightly lower tow rating, partially due to the efficient rear diff. But it also gets 21 in my city/hwy driving. And I get 650 miles on my 36 gal tank. Over 700 on road trips. All things considered I think I’d stick with the relative simplicity and reliability of an n/a engine. Plus it was a LOT cheaper. Like 15k cheaper.

And people are wondering why Jeep, Dodge, Ram aren't doing well. IDK maybe everything is way overpriced and to the people saying yea but you get $10,000 off at the dealer. Yea you always got 7-10 thousand dollar off at the dealer doesn't really matter when the truck is $20,000 over priced. plus the economy isn't working for the masses just the people near the top. There are only so many of them and most arent buying Dodge, Ram, and Jeep (except maybe the grand wagoneer). way overpriced + bad economy = poor sales. pretty damn simple.
