I live close to Edington and we locals are lead to believe that Alfred and his armies approached Edington from North Dorset and took the high ground at Bratton Castle. The Danes approached from Chippenham where the land is much lower and flater and this gave Alfred a big advantage. Bratton Castle is on the crest of the Salisbury Plain escarpment which is very steep making the fighting infinitely more difficult for the Danes.

The saxons were the nobelist of royals. Its after 1066 when the royals swap hands when all the cruel atrocities happen.. So why on earth do people see the vikings as heroes.. They also use to sacrifice children of enemies to Odin.. So why do we now have thor and Odin as super heroes in marvel. Strange
@markmorris71234 жыл бұрын
@holzy0815 no I think you are wrong there were many different germanic peoples that developed completely different cultures. Saxons did not try to destroy or wipe out the celts/britains. Yes they fought wars, but they also forged alliances, and shared ideas, employed eachother into one anothers service. That's why their age is called the golden age of britain,, that and they were amazing goldsmiths lol. Seriously though,, the vikings very way of living was sacrificing people, raiding, and raping. The cultures couldn't be more different.
@christianfreedom-seeker20254 жыл бұрын
@@markmorris7123 where did you get that idea? The pre-Christian Saxons literally tried to wipe out the Celts but were pushed back in a key battle which allowed the Celts to fall back into Wales and Brittiany. I think the bloodlust largely ended when the Saxon Kings accepted Christ and ordered their retainers to do likewise. Interestingly the later invading Vikings eventually converted as well, mostly at the behest of Cnute, after he accepted Christ. To this day, most Northumbrians are Saxon/Scandinavian. A bunch of them settled Maine in the 1700's so Minnesota wasn't the first State to be settled by Scandinavians! 😄

Honestly ac Valhalla’s story makes no sense. Why would assassins side with the Vikings when they’re the ones wanting to conquer and burn down England. Alfred is simply defending his people/land and all of a sudden that makes him a bad guy and enemy. I guess Connor wanting to defend his people in AC3 is evil now. Not only that, if Eivor stays a Viking he’s going to get wrecked by Alfred since King Alfred absolutely destroyed the Vikings in the battle of ethandun/edington in 878 and AC can’t change that fact
