Your best sci-fi analogy for when the labor exceeds the value of the operation would be THX1138 where they keep a running tab on the rising cost of bringing their fugitive home.

Overcomplicated = understatement for sure on this one. Thanks for sharing your pain.

Working on a similar unit, a Sherwood ST-905., This is very helpful!

Hi, I have a ST-903 and the tone arm is 3 degrees from perpendicular to the rail when the tone arm is at rest, so the starting position adjustment will not correct for this. Is there some way to adjust the tone arm so it is perpendicular to the rail?

Good effort broseph. 3 in 1 is good, but the odor sort or bugs me. Especially if it is open and it gets knocked over and isn't discovered until the next day. I am fighting a TD-165 with obnoxious humm. Already rewired the tonearm, rewired the whole unit properly, can not get the low level humm to go. I refuse service. I buy fix and resell. I find service is always a loss in terms of time. Often, when approached for service, I'll take the broken unit as partial credit towards a purchase.

I'm using 3-in1 electric motor oil exclusively now when I have a DD motor. For belt drive spindle bearings, I'll use a non-detergent 30 weight or something heavier like gear oil for Regas. Technics DD spindles get Singer. Perhaps you have a bum cartridge or bad RCA cables on your Thorens?

@@TurntableGuyI wish....New nag 110 and empire cartridge same issue. Foil shielded rca cables. ..actually tried 3 different sets. One set was horrifically bad.

@@Poppinwheeeeellllllieeeeez What about an DSP based Adaptive Noise Filter and some means of sampling the mains hum so the unit can remove the hum, just an idea.

I GOT IT AFTER SEVERAL FRUSTRATING DAYS......I considered your advice and said frig I'll try the rca cords again....3rd time lucky.....dead silent. Lame because I had used high quality monster and acoustic research rca's. In the end I went with Technics cables and dead silent. What a nightmare. Usually takes 10 mins to solve this issue.

@@Poppinwheeeeellllllieeeeez Sometimes more exotic RCA cables cause more problems than they solve. I go to the thrift store and pick up standard RCA cables for 50 cents to a buck each and use those for my replacements.

Thank you so much. I've been trying to repair my LAB-2100 and came across your video. You mentioned you were referencing a LAB-2100 service manual, would you be able to share your file, or how you found it?

I had a nasty ear.👂 infection once. The stuff that came out of my ear looked pretty much like the goop that came out of that bearing well. The doctor told me it was caused by me sticking my greasey fingers in my ear 🤭. Antibiotics💊 saved my ear. Have you ever thought of going that one step 🪜 further and using one those non detergent 30 weight antibiotic enriched motor oils❓ OR maybe something like Singercillin oil❓ I know you'll love 💕 my idea so I'll just say You're welcome👍 in advance. Moral of this sad but true story❓ Never🚫 put grease❌ in your ears👂👂 or turntable bearing well boys and girls.🙅♀️🙅 😲 🤣
