00:02 "Brisk 33 degree morning" With this video I am reminded of an old auto mechanic friend of mine, who tells me even working in a car shop, you will freeze or boil to the weather while fixing cars. The shop only protects you from what the wind is blowing. So I can understand your temperature predicament.

I like the advice about the rotors. I’ve found that modern rotors typically don’t have enough thickness to machine anyways, and OE parts are unmatched for longevity and performance in my opinion.

@11:30 If you don't have a brake pad spreader or C clamp, I find that, while the caliper is still around the rotor and has the brake pads in, to pull the caliper again the rotor, which, using all your body weight, will slowly retract the brake piston, and open the caliper up for the newer, thicker, pads, without needing to have or go get a fancy tool. 👍

Ive done the rear brakes on my 2018 Legacy. No sweat, no scan tool. Did the rears on my motherinlaws Volvo and it was a lot harder, I had to pull power from the battery to retract the piston. I now have a scan tool I got for my birthday. I cant wait to use it for rear brakes lol TPMS lights are on, so im going to use it for the first time tomorrow to check the sensors before I order new ones. Legacy is at 110k.

40$ brake winder kit from ebay will work. Disengage the handbrake before you start and when done take the fluid cap off wind them straight back in. I went to my dealer here in Australia to ask about the process and was told straight up that they dont use scan tools for any part of the servicing of the cars over here.

Is this the first brake job on that vehicle? I have a 2023 Ascent that has 8,000 miles and as gently driven. It is going through the brake pads and the dealership says the brakes are only good for 35,000 miles. What say you on that?

Brake wear can vary greatly depending on a variety of factors. The idea that they'd even give you a mile number is pretty odd. If you seem to be having premature wear on your brake pads I'd watch out for a sticky/seized caliper causing the pad to rub against the rotor when it _not_ braking. Symptoms might be the vehicle pulls to one side, the wheel could be hot to the touch, uneven pad wear, and a grinding noise.

Please help, I suspect I’m getting ripped off right now from a dealership in regards to a five speed manual transmission Replacement under warranty. After the dealership kept my car for 92 days I went to pick it up when they said it was done and the car barely started. All lights started flashing check engine, cruise control, etc. and Lori importantly. After visual inspection of transmission, it resembles one off of a Subaru Impreza non-turbo. I didn’t even know that was possible but apparently it is I’m just Worried that transmission isn’t strong enough to handle the power of a WRX when I looked up the horsepower of a non-turbo Impreza.

is it possible to schedule service with you if we're in the area? I can't find anyone to replace my trans fluid in my 2016 outback at 140k miles. I'd like to install a tow hitch and per the manual once i'm towing anything it needs to be replaced every like 40k miles. but if they won't do it for me in preparation, i have a hard time believing they'll do it later. doesn't matter if i tell my dealers that i meet the extreme use case, they won't touch it.

More salt used means a lower and lower freezing temperature, right? No. No it doesn't.

"...Salt works by lowering the freezing point of water. When salt is added to ice or snow, it creates a saltwater solution that has a lower freezing point than pure water. This causes the ice to melt, creating a brine solution that is less likely to refreeze than plain water..."
