I just heard today. As an American. I researched Russian and Chinese relations. In my research, I found that the Chinese actually feared Russian nuclear possibilities (just reason) and built underground bunkers. The video I watched suggested that most Chinese homeless lived underground. I do not know if this is factual. I will always support the common people. 1 world. 1 people. We are all people of this Earth.

China has been diversifying its resources imports (oil, gas, timber, meat, minerals etc) for years. It is a strategic move for national security. China can't put all the eggs in one basket. Russia has never been the top import country to China before 2022, in fact Russia had not even been on China's top 4 energy import countries. EU was your biggest customer before the Ukraine war. You got into trouble and need China's money to finance your war, so you need to give China a reason to consider your products. Middle east countries are China's top oil importers and China has had friendly relations and good economic ties with them for decades. China would not abandon long time suppliers unless you provide more competitive prices. Importing more from Russia means less from other countries. Therefore naturally Russia need to persuade China to buy more of their oil and gas with good price. I am sure Russia doesn't want to look bad in the eyes of Arabs, because Russia is essentially stealing business from Arabs (compete directly with the Middle east countries) for China's market share. So Russia must sell a lot cheaper to China.
