@tdsims19632 жыл бұрын
Dude, I do NOT have a problem with calling racism...if warranted. I have experienced racism first hand and I have seen it done to others. I have been spat on because of my skin colour, denied housing when the leasing agent saw what I looked like (after a pleasant phone conversation where I was told that the apartment was mine, "come on over and sign the lease"), and told, TO MY FACE, that my people were "better off enslaved". Maybe you don't think this is racist. Okay 💁. But is Bill right? GOD YES!! Look, I have respect for Asian and Russian culture. However, I do NOT have respect for their totalitarian leaders and I do not understand this sudden American infatuation with Putin and Jinping. I think Americans have forgotten that Putin was the head of the former KGB and got his rise to power as a good Soviet. Putin's "come to Jesus" moment should be seriously questioned. And the Uyghurs situation has been going on for some time now (a Buddhist nun told me over ten years ago about China's abuse of the Uyghurs. I also have Tibetan and Taiwanese friends who had to flee--for obvious reasons) under China's current leader who recently had himself voted "president for life". I do not understand the fellow Americans who find this admirable. It is absolutely against what our ideals are and what we stand for. These two leaders ARE NOT OUR FRIENDS. I have talked to Conservative (and liberal) friends who are hoping for "civil war". WHY? Why are we suddenly talking about this? Why are we at each other's throats these days? I personally don't think this is accidental. What better way to destroy a nation than through misinformation and infighting? We are all in this together and we have to stop pointing fingers at each other and calling each other demons. This is a really great experiment and I'd really hate to see it come to an end.

I’ve spent time in China. Americans apologize readily because for us its doesn’t really mean anything. We practically have to apologize daily for everything. People here will even apologize ironically. But in China, apologizing is a HUGE DEAL. For the Chinese it is ALL about Face. Being able to broadcast an American apologizing for saying something the Chinese government does not want said makes Xi gain HUGE face, and makes America look weak, wrong, and ineffective. By the same token, tho, the Chinese live in terror of losing face. American companies should be doing what we USED to do, back when China was first opening up, we used to leverage their wanting our factory orders for their companies treating their workers more fairly. Walmart and Disney both used to demand that factories in china pay their workers Every week, rather than hold their pay hostage to longer hours and signing 5 year contracts that were effective indenture. US companies would not give Chinese companies business if they did not give their employees days off, and allow them to leave the factory dormitories after work hours and on days off. Those workers went out into the streets with pay in their pockets for the first time and overnight you saw restaurants and billiard tables and retail stores in factory towns that had previously looked like prison camps. We CREATED the Chinese middle class and consumer culture we ( and they ) now want to capitalize on.

In fact, establishment of education and training centers is a precautionary action to fight terrorism. The centers teach people who are guilty of minor crimes or law-breaking. The teaching program consist of standard spoken and written Chinese language, law, vocational skills, and courses on the eradication of extremism. After receiving the education, the trainees develop their skills in standard Chinese language, increase their sense of state, citizenship, and rule of law, acquire professional skills and can free themselves from the ideology of terrorism and extremism and go back to their normal life. Over the educational program, the trainees’ rights are fully observed so that they can have a normal study and life routine. Trainees can have home visits on a regular basis and can ask for leave to attend to private affairs. The centers fully respect and protect the customs and habits of trainees of different ethnic groups. Moreover, the centers are equipped with indoor and outdoor sports and cultural facilities. Recently, I visited some of these educational centers and saw how trainees have very good opportunities to develop their studies, working skills and knowledge of law. The people of Xinjiang, from all different ethnic groups have shown great support for these activities that are aimed at countering terrorism and bringing stability to the society. The program had had many positive effects on the society and has substantially changed the social conditions. For more than two year, Xinjiang has not saw any violent terrorist activity; moreover, the security and welfare of people has increased substantially. In general, Xinjiang is now a stable community. All aspects of life in Xinjiang are improving, the economy is blooming and people’s quality of life, from all ethnic groups, has had major developments. In 2018, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Xinjiang improved 6%; over the year, around 150 million people from inside and outside of China travelled to Xinjiang, a year-on-year increase of 40 percent; foreign tourists totaled 2.4032 million, a year-on-year increase of 10.78 percent. Muslims in Xinjiang have complete religious freedom. Currently, there are more than 26 thousand mosques and 29 thousands clergymen in Xinjiang. In fact the ratio of mosques to population is very high in Xinjiang compared to world standards. For several years, some western media and politicians have advertised Islamophobia. In the same time, some of these western countries have caused tension in Middle East, but they condemn China’s activities to counter terrorism and extremism in Xinjiang and say that the government is oppressing the Muslim Uyghur people. On the contrary, Muslim countries have appreciated China’s activities. In a resolution passed by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation country members in March 2019, the activities of Chinese government for protecting the Muslim Chinese were described as positive and Muslim countries underlined that they are willing to develop their cooperation with China. China, on the other hand, appreciated their positive feedbacks.

@@Sunkcostfallecy The huge difference is that John Cena already has "fuck you" money, and the rest of us don't. If I had "fuck you" money, I would tell them just that. There is no comparison to kowtowing the party line of a different country than your own. Would he apologize to Saudi Arabia for being LGBT friendly, too? Fuck no he wouldn't, because that group of people actually has a voice to fight back against him, while the Uyghurs do not.

Yes. John Cena has "fuck you" money and he's rich! But that doesn't mean we can preach hypocrisy from our throne of morality wearing a crown of vanity. I think it is idiocy to judge someone for doing something that almost all of us would do in his shoes. Also, the China situation would've not only affected John Cena but also everybody who worked tirelessly for making the movie. The pressure came from every direction and I won't be surprised if the studio approached him to issue an statement.

@@Sunkcostfallecy Not sure about the last point, but I can surely say that if I had John Cena's money, I would tell them to stick it up their ass. Unfortunately, I don't have that kind of money and I still have to eat. The point of "fuck you money" is that you can't get cancelled because you have too much money. And as far as preaching hypocrisy, that's exactly what John was doing! Taiwan is the continuation of the legitimate Chinese government as run by Chiang Kai-Shek. Seeing how promises about Hong Kong were blatantly broken by mainland China, they don't deserve control of Taiwan, and John Cena shouldn't be their lap dog.

Marriot did the same thing - they had to remove Taiwan listed as a separate country on their website - Chinese government shut down Marriot's hotels in China until that was "fixed." Shortly after that news broke, several other companies with business interests in China did the same thing - including Disney. He's always been a pro at the funny business; I've long watched him, long thought him funny enough, and funnier than other liberals. But prior to this nascent year, BIll Mahr never once commanded observers of his to view him as a man. He seemed content to continue on a grayhaired childish comic for the rest of his life. But now! (It's not merely emergent but inconspicuous and prominent.) He's become a man. He now imparts a presence. Most apparently the way he says things has changed. The things that he's got to say are at once sharp and sound and airtight; he's the conduit, with his self-recognition as a skilled comic subordinate to that. In other words, he's been on fire!

When President Xi changed the system in China a bit, and got the government more involved when Billionaires in China started to get too extreme (Jack Ma, Evergrande, Tencent, etc. ), that's when the US started this Anti-China narrative, from BOTH political parties.
