No, it hasn't. We can dig into the ice going back thousands or millions years and seeing how much CO2 was in the atmosphere at a given time. That's how we know the Permian Extinction was so devastating. An extinction brought about by extremely high temperatures and excessive CO2, methane, and other POLLUTANTS in the atmosphere trapping the sun's rays and warming the planet. Have you never been in a green house before, how do you think the concept works? Why do you think it's so much hotter in a polluted city than the clean air of the country side?

Homes: The technology to measure climate change does exist and has existed for awhile. You must be living under a rock in Amish Country.
@herculeholmes5047 жыл бұрын
Well, technically you could say that the technology does exist, but it would require _tens of millions_ of climate measurement stations places all across the Globe to take measurements, and they would all have to be individually calibrated to give reliable data.

I don't know for sure that man-made global warming isn't a real thing, it could be and I an open to changing my mind. But at present I would bet my balls it _isn't_ because Global warming theory is BULLSHIT. There is no evidence of carbon emissions causing a significant or even detectable difference to Global temperatures.

I still remember the first Earth Day here in Oregon. We all left class and had a rally on our high school campus complete with demonstrations and speakers and music. One of the speakers talked about burning fossil fuels and how it was changing the environment and how it just wasn't sustainable. He had told us THEN, in 1970, that the earth had about 45 more years of burning oil before serious consequences would begin to be seen. That was based on research the oil companies had published at that time. I distinctly remember that. They can deny all they want, I remember.

The theory of Global Warming dates back to the nineteenth century and there's been all the evidence any sane person could ask for by 1980. It isn't new, and it isn't a conspiracy or "just a theory" (anyone who says that doesn't understand the scientific method). I'm both horrified and enraged that it has been so aggressively and successfully suppressed.

Even if we conceded the Republican argument, their position is nonetheless untenable. For example, every time you get in your car you buckle up. Why? You are probably not going to be involved in an accident, yet you still strap on your seatbelt. When the enormity of a tragic outcome far outweighs the cost of taking a precaution, any sane person takes the risk-averse approach. This is common sense. As applied to the global-warming issue, the small loss in oil profits and economic costs is far outweighed by the following worst case scenarios: 1. 200 feet sea level rise that will essentially depopulate such major cities as New York, Shanghai, and Tokyo because they will all be underwater. 2. 90% loss of the current agricultural land used to feed everyone on earth. 3. Famines, wars, and rampant social instability that will make rape, torture, enslavement, and murder a common practice across the entire earth. 4. Eventual death of 90% of the world's population. The question should no be whether burning fossil fuels is causing global warming. The question should be, "What and how can we try to reverse the current trend, regardless of what is causing it." Now, more than ever we need clear thinking and leaders that value objective truth. Any political leader that values dishonesty and propaganda more than transparency and honesty should be summarily removed from office.
@nothing2doable7 жыл бұрын
"The question should no be whether burning fossil fuels is causing global warming. The question should be, "What and how can we try to reverse the current trend, regardless of what is causing it." This sounds good to unthinking people, but actually makes zero sense. The bulk of the current warming is driven by CO2 emissions from the burning of fossil fuels, and without agreeing on that, no precautions could possibly take place. Climate change misinformation is funded by oil interests, as they know the first step in mitigating the crisis is to phase out the use of fossil fuels. The politics of the issue is very much centered right here.

Spitzer and Weiner have issues... but compared to the pres, it's lightweight. I like that they're smart. Dems have a lot of smart ppl, though. Hell, Hillary was super smart. Unfortunately, that may not be enough, while there is an active war on being intellectual. I love that Spitzer & Weiner are fighters. Too much give in the Dems these days. I'm a Trump supporter who voted for Bernie Sanders in the primary election. What people need to understand is that ultimately, the establishment nominee had to lose this time, and nobody personified the stagnation gripping the political system more than Hillary Clinton.
@simbamartens71927 жыл бұрын
Danny Stash I understand your position but you were mistaken in thinking Trump was even remotely anti-establishment. He's a billionaire why would he fight for workers. He's appointed people from Goldman Sachs and ExxonMobil to his administration and he wants to cut all the regulations that protect people as well as get rid of the overtime rules that benefit the workers he purports to defend. The only good things he did was axe TPP and save those 700 jobs at the air conditioning factory. I get that you wanted to throw a molotov cocktail at the establishment but you would have done better to vote third party or write in Bernie
@SaharBaghaii7 жыл бұрын
To add to Simba's point below. Even though I wasn't to excited about any of the third party candidates, if the point was to shake up the political system, a third party candidate getting a sizable portion of the vote would have been a better strategy. The Republicans and Democrats are both stagnant, and showing them they shouldn't be as comfortable as they are, and their job is to represent the people would have been much more effective.
@simbamartens71927 жыл бұрын
***** Last I checked the regulations of the EPA protect people. Weakening the already weak regulatory framework in America will make places like Flint the norm not the exception. Obviously I agree that in most countries there are some unnecessary regulations and others that can be simplified but by appointing someone who wants to destroy the EPA and is bought and paid for by the fossil fuel industry (so much for draining the swamp) he is gutting the EPA and other regulatory agencies. Trump is basically appointing people to each department who don't believe in what that department does and working people like you and I will pay the price, not Trump or Hillary or any of their buddies in the 1%
