If Peter Zeihan is correct, shorter supply chains, localized produce and production then this had other potential ramifications. Some of his statements: inflation, baby boomers retiring, reduction of younger workers to fill jobs across many developed countries to include China and India, and potential lose of globalization. With reduction of workers will reduce pollution, assumption retirees pollute less, shorter supply chains reduction in energy consumption and waste, localized companies will have to find better methods for managing waste/pollution, who wants to live in a garbage dump, famine could equate to a moderate drop in population, war the same. These issues seem to point to less pollution and significantly more smaller localized produce.

I’ll give it to Peter Zeihan- he’s been preaching this same narrative for about a decade now. He’s certainly intelligent, and I agree with majority of his perspectives, but I think some of his messages are spoken in terms that are too absolute and don’t allow for alternative potential scenarios. We’ll just have to see how the future unfolds!

This episode is very short sighted as is Zeihan. We operated the most efficient and prosperous nation in human history when our population was 175-200 million less in America. Om top billions of jobs will be reduced by software automation, robotics, A.I....etc in a time of de-globalization where the 8 billion shortly will be fighting over resources. The transition to lower population will be hard but we need to reduce the population of the working class by at least 70-80% and all the elite/rich/higher paid government wokrwr families by 99.99%. Strict child control policy should be implemented on the upper strata where only 1 in a million families should be allowed to have children, all the other families should have forced tubal ligation among this wealtheir and even upper level government families. For the other 99.99% of the population, no more than 1% of families should be allowed to have 2 children maximum then tubal ligation should be done. Otherwise expect a dystopian nightmare you cannot imagine.

He reads, analyzes and postulates. While a lot of what he says does make intelligent sense there is not a way to ever fully predict the future. Factors could change that affect some of his analysis but he’s definitely a great speaker and postulator. I think there have always been the world is nigh type people. The one thing he doesn’t rely on is the capabilities for human response and innovation. If countries he mentions struggle and start falling as he suggests one would hope people would find ways to adapt and overcome so the doom and gloom this man predicts may not quite unfold as he predicts. Remember he is predicting based on numbers and analysis. That is never a perfect science. I find him very thought provoking but the hopelessness he indicates for humanity seems destructive and I have more faith in humanity than that.

No, much of his conclusions also come from demographics, the shrinking of many workforces while the retired segment is a huge burden, coming soon.
@K-1Tube2 жыл бұрын
@@ddoppster You're missing the point. He indeed spends most of the time talking about demographics, but that's not at all how he explains deglobalization, which he states will unfold due to US stopping patrolling the oceans and the rest of the world being unable to secure global trading by themselves. If you rule out those two assumptions then global commerce will remain and, without this deglobalized world scenario, all his reasoning based on demographics falls apart.

@@K-1Tube I've been critical of this Ziehan guy, but I think there is some evidence that the US involvement in securing waterways matters. The activities of Somali pirates along the Horn of Africa alone were wrecking havoc and it doesn't take much to commander a freighter. Sooner or later, given freighter hijackings, exports will slow or stop.

Excellent interview. I’ve gotten hooked on Mr. Zeihans works. As an American millennial, I see it as short term pain (investment in our own manufacturing) for long term gain (secure supply chains and the resurgence of manufacturing jobs in the states). Although I don’t think globalization will be completely dead as Peter makes it seem I still see some investment in Vietnam and like he mentioned Mexico (I have a new Samsung TV made in Mexico) and I’d argue against his prediction on South Korea and I think disadvantaged will probably stick with it as much as they can for survival. I think South Korea will probably follow what he said about Japan in that they will commit to US partnership as they are heavily investing in US manufacturing from Samsung for chips and EV batteries, LG the same, and Hyundai as they have a large market share in the US auto market like Toyota, Honda, and Nissan.

Yeah it's all based on givens. Europe won't start buying Russian oil again for any reason. All manufacturing will leave China or need to. Things can happen. Its still a worth while exercise to see where we are currently headed if nothing changes.

Change is inevitable, the world never stays the same, demographics are easy to predict, it takes 20 years to produce a 20 year old educated worker and member of society. We either have children or we don’t, mathematics don’t lie. Peter Zeihan was quite accurate when in 2015, when he predicted the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, he then said in 2015, that the annexation of the Crimea peninsula was the beginning and in approximately 5 to 10 years, Russia was going to annex more Ukrainian territory and possibly swallow the entire country, and he was right, it’s happening right now, 8 years later as he predicted.

39:00 - 40:46 - reassuring for India, that's if we continue to build our industrial capacity & shorten supply chains especially avoiding China & East Asia - we will have to source our energy needs from the Persian Gulf rather than Russia though. 56:55 - 57:40 - Very interesting on Argentina, positively so! 1:01:54 - 1:02:44 - Labour seemingly will have more leverage over capital in the surviving/thriving regions, 1:05:33 - 1:05:44 - Cautiously optimistic or at least neutral for South Korea. At 1:05:32 you state 'never underestimate the Koreans". Hyundai - a south Korean auto manufacturer - now owns an 80% share of Boston Dynamics, the robotics company that makes Atlas (the robot that runs up and down stairs, and does Parkour). Expect to see this technology merged with AGI to solve the demographics worker shortage problem. You still won't have a lot of South Koreans, but you will have all the factory workers you need.
