A wize man told me when I was a rookie , you'll go down a mountain many times too slow but only once too fast . With that thought always in my mind I never once had a problem going slow down hill . Nice truck , keep on keepin' on .

I would have killed something for 5.6 mpg when I was hauling equipment. 4 or 4.5 was the best I could do, but that was 30 yrs ago. Some people just don't get how much of a parachute cattle pots really are. Joe did an awesome job with that Detroit. When I started out I met up with a mechanic that used to tune my 8V71 & she used to sing for me. He did it all by ear & a set of feelers gauges. Keep on Truckin Jax

Awesome video, I replaced my new Pete with a x15 with a old 98 w900 with an n14 in it to avoid the evil elog. Just my fuel savings alone between the old vs new engines can really make the difference in being profitable or not in this industry. I went from 4.7 to 6.4 mpg by going from a new truck to a 25 year old truck. And I don’t need to pay for Def anymore either

The point of view video of that long descent was cool to watch. Too many drivers underestimate braking distance, especially all wheel drive and 4x4s in snow or low traction situations. As a motorcyclist I frequently witness vehicles in curves and often off camber curves that are on the very edge of control. Congratulations on the truck. Your break in method is interesting. I like the care that you take to ensure that your truck is in top operating condition.

Can’t wait for the review on the tuner. I have the same truck and have a custom tune but haven’t been happy, I haul two loads per day 98k loaded in one direction and empty back, 570 miles a day. I haven’t done better than 4.8mpg. Just passed the million mile mark. 260k on a complete engine.
@realwildwildwest
@realwildwildwest 8 ай бұрын
Dang… you should definitely be seeing better numbers than that. Not sure the details of your tune, but I know certain combinations are more power based than mileage based. One of my biggest helps when it comes to the Detroit is keeping my rpms between 1500&1650 when I’m loaded . Any below that it suffers, and above that uses more fuel than necessary in my experience.

That is one heck of a trailer and because my family owned and operated a Stockyard most of my life I have loaded a many head but never one like that. I’d like to see a video of you giving a tour of how many cuts it has and how many head you have the room to put here and there. We always had the ramp that was about idk chest high on me and that was the one we loaded the big trucks on. We had a second beside it that was twice as high and a bit more narrow but I personally never loaded one head up it. My grandfather had one like it at his barn at home that was dilapidated by the time I came along. I never asked what we spent money building the one at the stockyard for but never needed. I thought possibly for small feeders on triple deck trailers then never laid eyes on one. My dad hauled a few trillion on old school set ups that were big long frame 2 ton trucks with the cattle carried in a 24+ foot box sitting up on the long frame kinda looks like a spreader truck that you spread chicken litter on field with. Same type trucks and length as the bigger ones like that. That’s hard to explain for some reason but dually trucks with pulling power and neck over livestock trailers behind them took over for them around the time I was born in the early 80’s 82 to be exact. They were running on propane for a while when it was really cheap and those motors loved it I understand but it became more expensive than gas then ford and dodge especially dodge put good diesel in there trucks and diesel has been king since.

@@realwildwildwest That’s great and I’m loving your channel after finding it yesterday. Ive binged watched quite a few of your episodes and subbed up of course. Yes sir cattle hauling has sure went thru a lot of changes over the last few decades. I remember old men backing pickup trucks up to the shorter dock to unload with a metal or even wooden structure in the bed with a few ole cows in the back. We saw a bunch even in the 90’s when I was in elementary and middle school but they were all but gone by 2000. I watched one jump out of one that seemed tall enough but she got her weight on top partially and it collapsed half down and owe boy we got a dangerous 1000-1200lb crossbred cow out in the stockyard parking lot headed towards a major hwy. She was an athletic ole gal like a crossbred with a little ear always is (owe weight yall don’t have cattle with a good bit of Brahma in them for heat resistance among other things lol too cold I bet) fast and mean. She was hard to get caught back but she caught herself by jumping into a pasture behind the sale barn and with a good funnel into the catch pen. I’ve got many wild cattle stories and some injury stories as well. Another time. Have a good one and again I’m enjoying the channel.

His IFTA average every quarter is in the mid to high 7’s pulling an average of 3k miles per week, 40k lb average, through the PA mountains.
