There are many easter eggs well placed in the fight _ Netero's black eye looks like an ant (it dies like an ant who chooses its life for its sexe) and Meruem's eye looks like humans, indicating that the line between humans and ants is very thin _"Don't underestimate the human race, Merwim, you know nothing about the power of Humans are limitless in evolution.” Meruem does not understand how late he and his species were, they never came out, they never won, humanity would have struck the entire country, the entire continent, before that could happen, it would have unleashed a horrific biological and chemical war, which would have completely wiped out their entire species in the most brutal way as it has done with thousands other species. While the solution was a very easily produced small bomb, which could be mass-produced if needed, it could bomb the entire country, ants never won, humanity is far beyond the point where simply "nen" or "pure force" is enough to control the scientist. Humanity had simply sent a small team of hunters to try to exterminate the ants, because it wanted to minimize the loss of human life and avoid political troubles, assumed that this was the maximum that humanity could throw at it, when in reality, it was like a small party of discovery in front of a real army. Humans are so cruel and capable of such atrocities that ants cannot hope to match, this fight is the epitome of this sinister reality.

My favorite thoughts on this, Netero said during the Hunter Exam that it had been decades since he was the strongest hunter anymore, he was just still the president of the association. So that means that there are even stronger hunters out there, based on what he said. Best part of all of this, if the King hadn't played against Komugi, would he have been able to devise a way to actually defeat Netero at all?

Gon's dad is better. Not in terms of power, at least from what is knlwn currently (manga is barelly past the anime, author has been very sick), but in terms of technique and capability he is the best. Also Killua's great grandpa (not shown in anime ot manga, just seen in the photo and what Grandpa said) is probably equaly as strong.

yea I think even without Komugi the king is more than intelligent enough to still be able to take Netero out, all playing with Komugi did was make him more levelheaded and calm before acting, so maybe it would've taken longer but he still would've figured out eventually because Netero's weakness is very obvious once you see that his blows do like no damage to you

I think without komugi, Netero would have died quicker because then there’d be no handicap for the king. Remember that he wanted to know his name and to reach his goal he had to make Netero give up just like Netero’s conditions during the final phase of the exam which is crazy how these all tie together. This is also some kind of call back to when Zeno fought Chrollo. Chrollo’s intention was not to kill Zeno and Meruem’s intention here similarly was not to kill Netero. Otherwise an indiscriminate attack could possibly kill the old man. With nen, if the intention is to kill, there are probably ways to get to the results quicker.

I don’t think there is anyone in the manga or anime mentioned yet that surpasses Netero when it comes to battle. In fact he was shown as the one that reached enlightenment in battle (almost like blessed from the gods). Except for one other I guess. This character dresses like Guan Yu (the god of war) & is closely linked to Netero ironically. I also should mention that the timeline is not clear on when Netero met and fought Maha (but my guess is before going to the mountains) because it was mentioned that Netero went there after finding out he had reached his limit (by loosing to Maha). And after going down from the mountains he was regarded as the strongest nen user in the world. Which also means he had surpasses Maha at that point. That’s the only logical path at least from the information given to us. I also forgot to mention that Netero’s ability 100 type Guanyin Bodhisattva is the goddess of Mercy, another irony.

The fact that he pulled out a LITERAL NUKE. Seriously for the first time in a badass anime supernatural fight the good guy LITERALLY uses a nuke. But is it a plutonium based nuke or a uranium based nuke. They said its cheap so its probably little boy level but yeah they called it a rose because well japan and nukes...yeah. Fun side note the US only nuked Japan because the translator in the US "misunderstood" the Japanese saying "we'll consider it" to "we're ignoring it" when asked for surrender and the US military deliberately violated Japanese waters with military submarines by order of the president to provoke japan into retaliating against the US JUST SO THE US HAD AN EXCUSE TO GET INVOLVED IN THE WAR!!! don't take my word for it look it up yourself.
