In this video you get a little teaser and the solution to all the oil issues I have faced with this kit. After 2 years it is still going strong.

I know this is old, but just wanted to say thanks. Relocating the oil pump and installing the check valve fixed my burning oil issues on my low mount turbo. Still getting a small (quarter size) oil stain under the turbo over night though.

I would take the turbo apart and clean it out really good. To be honest the check valve did almost nothing. The higher flow pump and delay timer did the trick.

If you are still looking for a rear mount turbo system, try contacting STS turbo chargers. Send a message or give a call and they should give you a price.

Noise is a no go, I've heard one of those pumps in action and it makes wayyy too much noise. I would have ordered a second quiet pump, or even better as someone else also mentioned, added a small reservoir to hold the overflow to give the pump time to catch up. I would add a second pump for backup with a trigger in the event the primary pump failed to avoid being stuck on the side of the road when it finally does fail and adding a small cooler might not be a bad idea to keep the turbo center section temps down to extend the life of the pump. I'm planning my own rear mount and I want it to be as dependable and quiet as a front mount setup. I have used the Holley series red/blue/black pump for scavenging and it works very well once the pump screen is removed in order to allow free oil entry. It is very quiet, you just have to protect it from extreme heat.

Speed Mafia Performance out of Colorado was a dealer for STS Turbo back in the day when they came out and I saw a TT C5 Z06 and that kit came with check valves... moral of the story is the check valve so be as close as possible to the oil intake side... I believe the spring for the check valve is 3.5lbs... you can purchase higher springs. This is know for about 12 years now...
@TheLifeofaMan3 жыл бұрын
In the end the real oiling issues was the return pump did not flow enough. I put a higher flowing pump and removed the restrictors and no issues ever again. Check valves are still in and a timer to run the pumps after shut off. But the I still had oiling issues until I put the higher flowing pump in.

My rear mount has oil coming from the drain side.. I installed a check valve which helped a lot bit didn't stop it.. the lowest turbo spills. Little oil on startup :-(

Awesome. I have a single turbo kit on my 5.0 and it's blowing oil out the exhaust like crazy right now because the return line runs too far to the back of the pan causing pooling after a few minutes of driving. Time for a scavenge pump.
@TheLifeofaMan4 жыл бұрын
Run a high flow pump and dump it into the valve cover. One of the other earlier videos cover were I dump my oil. There is already an open port on the driver side valve cover.

I’m using a standalone oiling system on my set up. I’m thinking of converting it to a scavenge system. I use a mechanical pump driven by an electric motor. My project is a work in progress to see how cheaply it can be done.
@TheLifeofaMan4 жыл бұрын
These oil pumps are like $60 the heat sync is another 100. Running for years no issue
@FullBoostJ44 жыл бұрын
@@TheLifeofaMan only problem is the noise, I spoke to the manufacturer of a similar pump to yours who said they should only be run for 30 mins max 😞. The RB racing pumps have helical gears so they're quiet but to get one sent over to the UK is gonna be crazy money. Something like $800 all in and that's too much.
@Tony-ib2vm3 жыл бұрын
Rbracing-rsr might sell you their helical gears. Supposedly they only make the gears, and drop them in existing shelf pumps. IDK if they'll fit your pump.

So, I'm switching my engine bay turbo kit to a rear mount to gain back my engine bay. It sounds like the Turbowerk spartan pump would work for me since mine is a single turbo, four cylinder? I will use the check valve you talk about of course and the other notes. Unlike your twin setup, do you think this is good for a single turbo setup? Thanks.
@TheLifeofaMan6 жыл бұрын
Kurt Bennett I would still use the exact or the cheap eBay pump like mine. The Spartan kits loader when it fills. The gear pump gets quite when it fills.

If you ever want to upgrade your oil return pump or switch it to something different then you should check out the Exa pump. I have it on my remount turbo system and it is so quiet. I have had no problems for three years. Its worth a look at.

Justin Lampe hey man what oil feed line size and return size hose are u running? I got a 2002 z28 with original sts turbo kit with upgraded on3 70 mm turbo. The kit has the original feed line and return line with upgraded shurflo pump. I am looking into upgrading it and would like to see some input.

That's awesome! How you liking that turbo? I actually have an on3 7875 turbo on my car. It is a little large but I put down 683rwhp on 16 psi. I do have a LQ4/4L80E setup. I may do a few videos on my setup. I believe my feed line is a 4 AN line. The return is a huge 10 AN line to the scavenger pump then it is a 3/8 rubber hose from pump to oil filler cap. STS turbos is back up and running again. I had to buy a new feed line from them a couple months ago. I did it that way so it would be the correct length and size.
@bnrz286 жыл бұрын
Justin Lampe it's a decent setup man honestly but I wanna get a little more out of it but do it safely. I had a bit of issues with oil getting passed the seals so I'm wanting to upgrade that and maybe upgrade the turbo as well. Yes I would love to see some videos of ur car

Here's a thought: Instead of having oil being supplied from the engine, why not have the turbos have their own oil pump/filter/cooler/tank dedicated to them with a timer? There would be more costs associated with it and room needed to accommodate but I would think you would have better control on how the turbos are lubricated - not to mention eliminating issues with engine supplied oil. Anybody have an thoughts about this?
@TheLifeofaMan6 жыл бұрын
Very costly, time consuming, and not any more of a guarantee that you will have a better result. If that was the better option car manufactures would be doing it, but instead they are doing oil supplied form the motor and returned.

@orthopraxis2355 жыл бұрын
@@TheLifeofaMan The is really bad reasoning, and it's usually false . "If XXX was the better option, car manufactures (sic) would be doing it...." Car manufacturesr must find a price where they can profit. They make 1000s of trade-off when designing a vehicle. The better option for who? for what result? Quite obviously, everyone wants something different, to say something wouldn't work or be better because "the car isn't manufactured that way" well just isn't factually correct and the reason people modify their cars.

@arronjohnston7425 жыл бұрын
simple fix is to make two small sumps for the turbos with breather vents that way the turbos drain as they were designed to do an the pump isn't constantly sucking on the turbos also once the engine is shut down the excess oil pressure has somewhere to drain instead of cooking inside the turbos bearings look up kzbin.info/door/QpoC_ilAGaNyLrLnXaH4Rg he has videos explaining this problem (he also isn't the only one whose worked out turbos need a freely draining sump to drain into)

What check valves did you use and link for the pump??
@TheLifeofaMan Жыл бұрын
No check values from the turbo to the pump. Just on the supply. I put a timer on it to keep the pump running for 15 sec after turn of to drain everything on the bottom side.

@jeepwk6.5L2 жыл бұрын
Also, where is your Widebands located?
@TheLifeofaMan Жыл бұрын
Turns out the check valves were a waste. I put high flow pump and a timer on it and all the problems went away. The time lets the oil return pump run for about 15sec after shut down to empty the system out so it can not drain into the turbo.

Wide band is in the cat right below the manifold. I have a video on here showing it under the gauge install.
