Jean Genet died in Paris April 15, 1986, and a few hours later in Baltimore I was born on April 16. I feel the connection as a writer with he, who wrote angelically about thievery and prostitution, as I feel a connection with Charles Chaplin, who's birthday was 98 years before, April 16, 1888.

@@bibleentries and most likely the greatest writer of the 20th century. He is often ranked above James Joyce. When he was last in jail for theft there were 5 major productions of his plays being performed in Paris, London, New York, etc. Major actors dropped multi-million dollar film roles to be in his plays. In the 1950s he championed the cause of the Palestinians against Israel and joined the Black Panthers in America to fight racism. He was a brave man.
