I want to tell you a story that influenced my husband's life and his decision to leave Russia.
Azovskaya stanitsa was founded in 1864 by descendants of Zaporozhye Cossacks. In the center there is an old hut of Cossack ataman Grigory Kochubey. Here I was born, grew up, and always felt that this place is special. and dreamed that one day it would be a museum.
There was a vacant lot in front of our yard.
I took part in the All-Russian competition "Cultural Mosaic of Small Towns and Villages". It was organized by the Timchenko Charitable Foundation. I was going to create a cultural and educational center with a real Russian oven for cooking traditional dishes, a stage for folklore festivals, and I wanted to build a smithy with an anvil and a pottery workshop. Schoolchildren and young people of the district could be trained there in ancient crafts and traditions.
When the project reached the semi-finals, I went up to the head of the administration again and told him about my progress. He asked if I had 500,000 rubles to buy the land. I answered that I didn't have that kind of money and I wasn't planning on owning it. It will be a cultural park for all the residents of the village. It doesn't matter who the documents say the land will belong to: the state, a Cossack community, or a school. The head of administration said he had a lot of other things to do now, and we'll talk about it later. I continued to participate in the contest and finally my project "Collection of Folk Talents" was among the winners.
I went back to the head of administration, but heard a categorical denial. He said he would not allocate the land.
I asked the advice of the elder of the local Cossack community Bulygin Vadim Ivanovich, and we again went to the local administration. Our head of administration was also ataman of the local Cossack community.
He refused to help us. V.I and I appealed for help to the ataman of the district Cossack Society, and with him to the Rector and Metropolitan. The newspaper published a news story saying that in memory of the victims of the Civil and Great Patriotic Wars, we want to build a chapel near Ataman's Hut. The Metropolitan liked our idea. He signed a petition to the head of our district administration to allocate land for the construction of the chapel. We also planned to build a smithy and pottery there and wanted to lease this land to the gymnasium.
V.I and I continued to look for an opportunity to implement the project and wrote letters to the president, the governor of Krasnodar Krai, the ataman of the Kuban Cossack Army, and the head of the district. We also applied to the Krasnodar Krai Department of Property Relations.
Soon I was expelled from the local Cossack community.
I and V.I. got tired and already decided to stop fighting for this land. I would put a smithy and a pottery on my plot.
But now we were told that the gymnasium could not sign the contract because it had no right to spend money (even a donation grant) on something that would not be built on its property.
V.I. and I went to the district education department and to the Ministry of Education. But they all said "no". I again appealed to the governor. In response, I received a notice to transfer my appeal to the Ministry of Culture of Krasnodar Krai.
We sent a letter to the Education Department of the region. The reply was that, under the changed circumstances, there was no possibility to implement the project. And the contract with the charitable foundation will not be signed.
We got an answer from the district administration where we were told that the plot of land is free and cultural heritage objects can be located on it.
Once again, I appealed to the head of the district.
Then we received an answer from the Kuban Cossack Troops, who advised us to contact the district administration on our own.
I, the director of the gymnasium and the charitable foundation discussed and approved a new estimate for the project. We spent 100 thousand rubles on the construction of the Russian oven. The rest of the money (almost 600 thousand rubles) - for a series of unique master classes for children: pottery, carving and painting on wood, making rushnikov, household dances, cooking classes -.....
I received a letter from the Ministry of Culture stating that the signing of the agreement between the gymnasium and the Foundation is impossible....The gymnasium refused to sign a contract with the foundation. I lost the opportunity to receive a grant and implement this project.

I just discovered this channel only now and it’s full of information and historical content. I was amazed how Boris wanted the restoration of his culture for the future generation but wasn’t granted by some people of his village. I learned about Cossacks people only on history book. I got emotional on your story 😢. Hoping for your success in the Philippines.

Well... His knowledge of history is bad.. That's why the locals didn't trust him either.. Plus, the source of the money there was from the European Union.. Maybe you don't know and it will be a discovery for you, but Western countries have been very actively trying to rewrite our history and are ready to allocate grants and so on for this..

This is a heart-rending story so beautifully told.Boris, you have an indomitable spirit that is inspiring. You and your friend Vadim give Russia a good name.Your Cossack ancestors must be very proud of you.Hats off to your mom for nurturing such a beautiful soul.I'm so glad you and Darlene found each other. She is obviously intelligent and articulate despite the lack of higher formal education. In another vlog, she said she was not able to fulfill her dream of going to college because of poverty and how she became the breadwinner of the family at such a young age.She has put her siblings to school and two of which are in universities and doing well academically. She is a remarkable young lady and so wise. She has the wisdom of ages.Though her family is poor in material wealth,it is evident to me they are rich in many other ways.Kudos to her mother for bringing up such well grounded children singlehandedly. My wish for you and Darlene is owning land vast enough to build an ancestral home in and for you to fill it with so many fruit trees to your heart's content and for your mom to grow old comfortably in.May your great grandchildren hear of your story and be proud.May this story be immortalized in a book for many generations to learn of.

What a great loss Boris, his mom and you were for them. Evil might have won the fight back in his hometown but God has a greater plan for you and your family where you are planted now. May God continue to guard you and direct you of His plans for you. You will never know how ugly it would have gotten if you stayed there. If they could uproot the trees just like that it means they have no regard to the property and life. They have no respect. Maybe it was safer for you to settle in the Philippines for now or maybe forever. God bless you.

your vlog about Boris background is interesting, and his love of his culture and keeping the tradition alive for the younger generation is heroic in modern terms but sadly less appreciated in his hometown. we have similar struggles among our indigenous communities here. i hope he can continue also online to teach and implement his cultural project.

The admininstration only cared about easy money business. The people didnt believe that Boris' vision is valuable. What a shame because they didnt have a Jose Rizal that said "Whoever does not look back from where he came from will not arrive at his destination". At least in the Philippines we have the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples and National Historical Commission to make sure local tribes and historical sites are protected from private sale.

What an amazing story! it's so sad that your community did not support you for that good cause and I pity them on how they think. and handle matters. You're such a noble man Boris ,a skilled, talented man with a good heart . My heart aches to the part how you handled silently and calmly as the man uprooted and bulldozed the trees planted by your grannies.. that was so sad.. Anyway, you made the right decision in coming with your wife and mother to the Philippines.. surely, you will thrive here and experience happiness with happy and good people, people who will value and appreciate and most of all respect you.. May God guide and bless you in all your endeavors in the Philippines.. my hugs to your mom and wife who are so supportive to you . And Darlene, keep it up! you have a nice and clear narration. WELL, HE'S A Russian Cossack, an excellent specimen. He's planting his seeds in the Philippines; he's going to improve the blood stock in that country. I think the main issue here is the contention between involved parties as to whether or not accept the project as being nationalist or liberal. Fear of the unknown plays very crucial to each argument presented. It is a misfired thoughts in various angles depected as suspicious and redundandancy. Kudos to Boris, a briliant thinker ahead of his contemporaries. My thoughts. Thanks.

I myself knew a similar person who underwent what you husband had to endure - bigotry, bureaucracy, mental as well as spiritual laziness and ignorance. Even churches are not exempt from these negative traits. I also admire his mother as well as you for giving him your fullest support. The first video of your channel I watched was when you were travelling to the Philippines. Now, I am watching this, I didn't expect how serious and sad the situations were. How unfair they were to Boris. May God pour you more blessing to compensate for the injustice Boris experienced there... And... May the decision of the leaders of the Cossack's society and the priest be a heavy burden on their minds and live longer so they would be held responsible to their children for having made a decision based on a shallow, judgmental and conceited mind. Boris did not commit any heinous crime so he did not, does not and will never deserve a punishment of excommunication from the church and expulsion from the society.

Finding shells from the war gone by, history conjured in my mind. If the new owners have a sense of the, they'd keep the hut. What beautiful workmanship. Kudos to your parents, grandparents who also cared for others, and that legacy is you. They grew trees so people had free food. Thank you for sharing this beautiful story and history of the hut. this is absolutely correct...that was through World War 2...which followed world war one which just preceded that end of what was until then the great Russian Empire...when the communists took over.....ONE of those russians that fled the destruction of the wars and the bolshevik "revolt" ...was MY own professor in classical piano in the University of the Philippines..i was then one of her students in her more mature years...after she retired from the Concert Stage as piano concerto soloist in MANILA...she was from ST PETERSBURG...and treated me so strictly...but like a mother...she insisted that i not only study what she taught well...but that even my person must be dignified...neat...well-combed hair...buttoned shirt ....different from other russians who , after WW2 went on to Australia or USA...SHE decided to become a filipino citizen... a deeper history is : the RUSSIANS had arrived in the philippines by 1894...just after Dr. Jose Rizal died..and the americans took over from SPAIN...in the first philippine government as SPAIN was ending its administration...the Russian Empire had established a TRADE and CULTURE mission in the philippines...russians started to come for trade and culture exchange and some actually intermarried , taught russian language..arts..painting..music. composing...and then they must have died off as families when the TRADE MISSION was ordered CLOSED by the AMERICANS in 1898...that is part of the history of Russia AND the Philippines that is lost in the education of the filipinos...people can cehck HISTORICAL ARCHIVES online...(i found it when reading Online...when i was in NYC years ago) ...among the "CULTURAL CENTER" archives...there people can see...photocopies of original news papers...with actual names of the RUSSIANS ... our problem is the unjustified control of the americans in our knowledge and path as a country...i should know...I LIVED in the USA...NYC...for over 3 decades...where my closest colleagues ...professors and friends WERE russians...as a musician...and i had visited ST PETERSBURG if just 2 weeks... i am still saddened that we as a people LOST so much time and opportunities to exchange with the Russian People..for they have MUCH to offer us...in their character..their story and great achievements and struggles in their very long complex history...just as much as WE as a people of many influences have much to offer them...especially in peace, friendship...and creative and constructive things in thsi world.. the philippines SHOULD pick up where it left off...and have deeper ties with the RUSSIAN people and their culture.

What a very inspirational, yet sad documentary. It's well written and narrated. Your husband, and friend Vadim, are truly honorable human beings who believe in the preservation of their culture. Hats off to them. A head-scratcher, though, is the amount of drama, hurt egos, and bureaucracy by the talking-heads that opposed the project. You can sense his pain after finding the fruit trees uprooted and then watch in horror while heavy machinery destroy a living tree. Really heavy symbolism in that sequence, with regards to those trees. Like any good Disney story goes though, I hope your husband and mother-in-law brought "seeds" from those same trees and plant them in the Philippines. Best to your family!

I feel Boris and his family pain😢. And the one who is destroying the land, as if they had grudges and anguish to the family. As if, Boris land are the only hindrance for the development of the community. 😢 Don’t worry Boris and mom, there is Philippine land and people, like a new canvas for you, waiting for your dream colors and beautiful paintings. Build your dream in the Philippines and let us shine together as our long waited artist to make your wonderful touch. And someday, claim your prizes as rewards of all you’ve done, if not in your country, so be it in Philippines. Mabuhay ka and your mom! (Long live Boris and mom). Jesus said: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” The Philippines is also a land of our God and your land to stay. God has a purpose for you to be here. Ask his guidance and the Lords Spirit will guide you! May our God guide and bless you always for your new beginnings. Salute dear brave Cossacks! Long live!💪🙏 And to Darlene, honor your trophies and thanks for bringing it home, take good care, preserved them and handle it with care! Always love and support your husband and mother in law. Let them shine in our country.
