I feel you! I had so many issues with milk supply. One of them wasn’t producing any and it messed up the production of the other one. They put me on medication but I wasn’t able to operate machinery on it, and I had to go back to work full time, so I unfortunately had to go to formula. I had been doing every other feeding with breast milk but it just wasn’t enough as she grew older. I would wear the pumping bras all day and night. Man was I sore and bleeding. And I’d only get like 6 oz a day. I remember the day I went to formula. Baby was crying so much and I was so tired. I finally decided to try one of the cans of formula I was given. She was so hungry. I cried from relief that she was getting fed and I cried even harder thinking about how I must be less of a woman for not being able to provide for my baby. She’s been on only formula for about 4 months and she’s 8 months old now. She’s 23 lbs and she eats about 30 oz of formula a day now, and my mental health has significantly improved since I can now do my job, come home and be a mom, and take care of my house without the added struggle of taking a bunch of medicine and having to eat lactation cookies all day, and have bloody nipples for only a few drops of milk.

And she encouraged me to bring my daughter to breast every now and then .. after trying millions of times when my daughter was 4.5 month she was suddenly on exclusively breastfeeding. It was not less than a miracle for me To all the ladies i say just take that support you want ..talk to someone and share your desire to feed your baby your own milk. If i can do it after so manu things like nipple confusion rejecting breasts.. me and my baby has finally made it .. she is now 5.5 months old . She is exclusively breastfed now . The benefits of breast milk extend far beyond infancy. Studies have shown that individuals who were breastfed tend to have stronger immune systems, healthier bones, and sharper minds as they age. They may also experience fewer chronic health conditions later in life. While formula-fed babies may appear healthy during childhood, they may be more susceptible to certain health issues as they grow older.
@pedsdoctalktv24 күн бұрын
Breast milk indeed offers numerous benefits for infants, especially in supporting immune function, gut health, and early development. Research has shown that these early nutritional and immune advantages can have lasting positive effects. However, it’s essential to recognize that every child and family situation is unique, and children who are formula-fed can still thrive and reach their full potential. Advances in formula composition have made it a nutritious alternative for babies who cannot or do not receive breast milk. Long-term health outcomes are influenced by many factors beyond infant feeding, including genetics, environment, and lifestyle. Supporting families in making informed feeding choices and fostering a nurturing environment for all children is most important for their lifelong health.

@dr61244 ай бұрын
@@pedsdoctalktv not the "same caloric intake".... It will have the same calorie density as breastmilk but will lack the hormones found in breastmilk and therefore the signals to baby that they have had enough food are less and they will take in more calories. This is why babies when bottle fed usually throw up their food more, because the don't know when to stop. Isn't it convenient that babies will take in more than they need from the powdered milk which is made in a factory and sold by companies for profit?....I'm sure those companies regret making excess money 🤔

Everyone, i am a mother who had exclusively formula fed my baby from month 1. I don't have even a table spoon of breast milk. Even though I'm thankful for having an alternative option like formula, i regret having to have fed my little one with that. With the high infant diabetes rate and amount of added sugar in baby formula, i will never recommend this to anyone unless it's an utter necessity. I slowly started substituting formula with cow milk when my baby turned 6 months. I know doctors don't recommend this. The same doctors recommended the formula milk with highest added sugar content in my country( the sweet nestle). And that same is what i had given my baby for months before doing a thorough study on this. If anyone wants to really know why i switched to 'cow' milk and what all were my findings, let me know here.

You have a healthy baby after feeding him with formula and making judgements now when he/she is still a baby? Are you doctors? Are you looking inside of your baby’s body and blood cells? Or maybe fortune tellers? What matters is the long-term effect which is a lifelong effect of being a formula fed baby. I understand if there is no milk or low milk supply or some serious health issues. But to justify your laziness and saying that it’s the same thing that’s just ridiculous. Science proves that breast-fed babies have way better health throughout their lives rather than the formula fed babies. They have less inflammation, allergies and stronger immune system. So crazy how everyone is trying to normalize the fact that those so-called mothers just being lazy and are trying to justify their laziness. Why do you have baby at all? If you can’t even try to give your baby the best you can, which is the foundation of the strong health? There are so many factors in life that will damage the health of a person throughout the life anyway so it’s the best to give the best thingpossible. Again, I’m not talking about those mothers who don’t have milk or have low milk supply or some serious health issues.
@pedsdoctalktvАй бұрын
As a pediatrician and IBCLC, I fully support breastfeeding as it offers numerous health benefits for both mother and baby. However, I also recognize that every family’s situation is unique, and feeding decisions are influenced by a wide range of factors, including medical conditions, mental health, and personal circumstances, like they were with my son. While breastfeeding can be beneficial, formula feeding can also support a healthy, thriving baby. The evidence shows that both breastfeeding and formula feeding can result in well-nourished, healthy children. Science tells us that various factors, such as genetics, environment, and social determinants of health, play a significant role in a child’s long-term well-being, and formula feeding, when used properly, is a safe and nutritious alternative when breastfeeding is not feasible or desired. It’s important to avoid labeling parents as "lazy" or judging their feeding choices. What matters most is that babies are loved, cared for, and nourished in a way that works best for their families. Supporting all parents, regardless of their feeding method, is key to fostering a healthy and positive community for children to grow and thrive.

Yes the in-law done the same thing with my 1st baby and I've had six babies since fully breastfed for 3 years at least each they ate food too when older of course lol but my point is in the beginning the in-laws can be too quick and pushy and I honestly think most r jealous of us breastfeeding because they want to hold baby all the time it made me lose out on so much important binding and skin to skin with my 1st I look back so mad they done that to me and I have more than enough milk with all my others I also did with him too but they wanted to feed him bottle and pimping just won't pull as much milk as a baby at the breast can or at least for me so just thought maybe I could encourage another 1st time mama don't let anyone in laws or anybody pressure u into losing that bonding time with your baby it's YOUR BABY NOT THEIRS I wish I'd had someone to tell me all this and warn me in-laws can be sneaky and have their own selfish reasons for doing this too not all mean well some do but some just want to take over!!❤❤❤ keep goin mamas also a tip on increasing milk fenugreek really did wonders for me!!! 😊❤

Go with European formulas like Hipp if you cannot breastfeed! European formulas have a better safety standards and cleaner ingredients. American brands put too much sugar/maltodextrin and other harmful ingredients in baby formula now. Make sure you do your own RESEARCH and be thorough! ❤

People who think her comment is cool and it's cool to feed formula to your babies understand one thing that we will regret only when we know the health issues that occur later stages due to formula feeding. Babies gut, immune system everything depends on what it's been fed in the initial years. Formula fed babies are prone to develop a weaker immune system, early diabetics, asthma and other allergic conditions in later stages and due its contents of synthetic nutrients, sugar, corn, soy in formula the high level of insulin will have its impact on babies over all immune systems . WHO themselves have declared formula powder milk is not sterile and since formula milk is derived from animal milk it will consist of bacteria that will be domant. If formula milk kept outside for a while even for like an hr or 2 these bacterias will flourish. We haven't seen a generation of babies grown with formula milk. We will start seeing them in the next 20 years . We will start discovering its effects on them . The best way to feed a baby is the way nature has taught us. While I understand there are so many mothers who want to breastfeed but have genuine health conditions or issues with milk supply and are not able to do so they ll not have any other options other than formula. When you have breastmik and still choose to feed formula for your comfort then by default you are prioritising your comfort over what's best for the baby. According to you the best that you give to a baby should fall under your comfort zone. Sadly millions of doctors have started supporting this formula not sure if it's because of patients'comfort or to generate revenues for the formula producing companies and earn commissions.

As a pediatrician and IBCLC, I understand that there is a lot of strong sentiment around infant feeding, and I appreciate the concerns raised here. There is a wealth of research underscoring the unique benefits of breastfeeding, which can support immune development and lower the risk of certain health conditions. However, it's also important to recognize that formula can be a safe and nutritionally complete option when breastfeeding is not possible or preferred. While breastfeeding does provide natural antibodies and tailored nutrients, infant formula is designed to support healthy growth and development, too. Research shows that while some differences in long-term health outcomes may exist, they are typically influenced by a wide variety of factors, including genetics, environmental factors, access to healthcare, and lifestyle over time-not solely by infant feeding choicesto remember that feeding decisions are complex, and for many parents, formula is a necessary or preferred choice. As healthcare professionals, we advocate for informed, evidence-based decisions without judgment, recognizing that parents are doing their best for their children. Our goal is always to support all parents and caregivers in meeting their children’s nutritional and emotional needs in the way that works best for them.

@pedsdoctalktv In india they sell formula with added sugar in it. Mam as you are a pediatrician could you please tell us if it's advisable to feed baby sugar right from birth ? And could you please make a video of breaking the ingredients present in formula and whats their role in babies growth. It will be very helpful for many mothers especially from India to understand the product better .

@@anithak2934 Infant formula does contain sugar, but it’s generally in the form of lactose, which is a natural sugar also found in breast milk. Lactose provides energy and is important for brain development in infants. I can definitely make a formula video!

The formula lacks the essential antibodies, and it is clearly stated on the packaging that there is no substitute for breast milk. However, if there are no other viable options, it is acceptable to use formula.

@kimadrian8605 baby will look happy and normal, but in comparison to a breast milk fed baby , formula babies tend to fall sick more in early ages, however their body will develop those antibodies due to exposure as the time pass, further there are so many risks which will be reduced and it goes on

A big misconception is that all babies have to be "chunky" to be healthy. A perfectly healthy baby can be "thin." This is why it's important to take them to the pediatrician so that their growth can be tracked. There are no concerns about my child's weight.

Some Moms like myself couldn't produce breastmilk. I tried and I failed, beating myself up each time. I am greatful my children had formula, or they wouldn't be here at all. My now 20yr old is in med school. My 18yr old is an artist, and my 10yr old reads at a HS level. You are part of the problem. Stop shaming Mom's for making the only choice there is for them! We didn't have milk banks! Formula is all we had.
@jesusislord40603 ай бұрын
@@virginiamullarkey6314 Obviously your conscious was shamed so you had to reply. Formula is all you had is a poor excuse. You should have educated yourself about making a safe-at home formula. You think your great-great-great-great grandparents just went down to the store to get formula if the mother couldn't breast feed? Our foods are no better than theirs, actually our food are way worse more processed even ultra-processed is the new term, full of chemicals. Pretty sad our grandparents before us who lived without technology and fancy cars ate wayyy cleaner food than us. Free of microplastics. Cope harder.

@@jesusislord4060 they also died of dysentery and something as simple as getting a bad case of the sh*ts but go off. inform yourself of history before being a d!ck to someone, if you were well off you got a wet nurse, a woman who was able to breast feed for you and if wernt well off, you did something that today would NOT fly which is animal milk,water or broth mixed with grains :) that is not a good diet for an infant, a lot of the time "homemade" formula can be dangerous at worst and leave your kid with deficiencies or not meet their nutritional needs at best.
@Sarah-psalm1273 ай бұрын
I just gave birth to my 9th baby, he is being supplemented with formula. I have breastfed 7 babies with no issues. The last two I have needed to supplement for their health. It was either supplement or sacrafice their needs. Trust me this grieved my heart both times as I have been adamant about nursing. Currently trying to get my body to get my body to make enough milk for my 1 month old, who is far behind on his weight gain. Going through this I could absolutely see how a mom would feel the need to entirely switch to formula. I have considered it more then once, because I want him to be healthy. And trying to balance between formula/nursing and not knowing how much he is getting is so very hard. Your reply is incredibly unkind to those who have made a different choice then you. I am a strong advocate of breastfeeding, and do think there can be selfish reasons for a mother to fornula feed, but we do not know the circumstances or levels of support another mother may have. Or the body issues she may struggle with. Please do not use my Lord and saviors name on your account if you are going to be so viscously unloving. What are the two greatest commandments? As for people in the past, yes they did have healthier food then us, but wven then women could not always provide milk for their babies. People would get wet nurses, neighbors help, or animal milk, or in very unfortunate cases where they had no access to help their children would end up very sickly or possibly even die.
