This is how many people used to eat, on a budget and utilizing all the leftovers. What a great lesson for younger people who are struggling because they eat out too much or don't get creative. You are a true gem. ❤

That's not why they're struggling.
@lizzy9975 Жыл бұрын
@@Aelffwynn It's partly why they're struggling. In my parents day we ate out on our birthdays. There were four of us. That was 4 restaurant dinners a year. And on my parents wedding anniversary. Make it 5. Very occasionally we'd get fish and chips from the greek takeaway. And never once did we ever indulge this fashion of breakfast or brunch. It just didn't happen in the 60s, 70s and 80s.
@Aelffwynn Жыл бұрын
@@lizzy9975 did both of your parents work full time outside the home or have multiple part-time jobs? Did they have long commutes to work or did they live within a reasonable distance to work? Was it hard for your family to obtain good quality ingredients locally? These are things young families deal with today. I agree that some people throw away money irresponsibly, but the majority of people throwing money away at brunches aren't struggling young people. They're rich young people (tech industry or generational wealth.)
@mypersawnaliteas Жыл бұрын
Young people are struggling bc the wages haven't rose with inflation. That makes it hard to save for rainy days when most of your money goes to covering basic needs. Plus according to several articles young people are "killing industries" bc they can't afford to participate in them.

I have drank instant coffee for 10 years. I have also been drinking the box milk from the dollar tree. I enjoy my instant coffee in the milk with a little sweetener. All the different syrups that you have would be great in this also. It's my morning wake up and afternoon delight ☺️ My life is a little different than most because I live off grid without refrigeration. How my instant coffee in milk is a great pleasure that adds protein and calcium to my day. You can have a lot of fun with it by heating the milk and adding hot chocolate too or any other flavors you enjoy throughout the year ☺️

That simple sausage, egg and cheese sandwich looks great... I've done that many times with just toast but I imagine cooking it a frying pan makes it even better! Funny story (yes I consider it funny not bad)...so we closed on a new house and moved in about a week ago. Everything has went great except we found out the stove was shot. It is covered under our home owners insurance so no big deal in the long run. However short term when we realized it I got so frustrated over not having a stove/oven...today after filing the claim like 5 days ago I realized DUUUH I literally watch a channel that comes up with ideas for folks who don't have a stove available to them. I had to laugh at my own shortsightedness while watching this video. Plus an excuse to go back and watch some of the old videos with no stove content lol Thank you as always! Have a great day!

Never a fail if you learned something 👍 unless it's like me and burning everything 😅. I'm loving your drive for this! Thanks for the series it has been very helpful. I know you were drained but if you have eggs and brown mustard with vinegar then you have mayo! You could also mash up the peas as more of a dressing. A good one for next time 😜 cook pasta according directions. Save water. Mash peas and broccoli in blender with salt and pepper. Add a couple tablespoons of brown mustard and thin out with pasta water. Add a tad of sugar for more of a sweet and spicy dressing. Chill. Add some cheese if you want a warm version. Parmesan and shredded cheddar work well.Chill pasta and drizzle dressing. Stuffed croutons are a good one too. Make your ham and cheese grilled sandwich. Cube sandwich and dip in egg and fry or bake. Use on your soup

A southern dinner that stretches is eggs and rice. Basically leftover rice sauted in a little butter, olive or vegetable oil. Scrambled eggs (we raised chickens, so eggs were always plentiful) combine the two for a meal. To get fancy you can, IF you have it, add in caramelized onions, smoked sausage or ham, peppers (🫑), any kind of leftover vegetables, cheese...the possibilities are many. I remember my mother making this at the end of the month when the choices were bare minimum. I also remember eating a lot of pancakes at the end of the month also.

So what I got out of this week... 1. You've added the basic "casserole" to my radar. I make lots of rice and potato type "bowl" meals and can now add this variant to these two base ingredients I use regularly. 2. I would not have thought to make the "casserole" as a base and put all of the goodies on as "toppings" instead of mixing in into the casserole (making them more like my bowl meals). Adding various "topping" combinations of cheese, protein and "fixings'" only to the top of these base options will add even more variety. These two points should certainly add numerous combinations of variety to my basic meals I didn't have before.
