Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire is Zack Snyders latest Netflix movie series. Based upon Classic Star Wars it's a brand new Snyderverse creation intended to unite Scifi fans with Snyder movie fans. But the critic reviews for Rebel Moon have left a lot to be desired. Is Rebel Moon a derivative sci-fi Star Wars Rip off with no plot? Or is it the greatest action movie of the year? Is Rebel Moon worth watching?

Rebel Moon Reviews are out for Part One: A Child of Fire and the critics are NOT pleased. While the audience scores are better coming in at 72% they will also be from Zach Snyder's biggest fans, so still a cause for hesitation. But while Netflix is often linked to streaming television series, Rebel Moon is a 2 part movie series, that just happens to be the same length as a streaming tv series. The issue with a 2 part movie is that the movies have to be satisfying independently, and from the reviews on BOTH sides, this doesn't seem to be the case. The trends across the reviews seem to be its a beautiful movie with set pieces that look great as wallpapers or in trailers. But the story doesn't hold together largely because there isn't one. That MAY wait till part 2. I'm interested to see it, but I'm dubious at best about Zach Snyder's latest Netflix movie. But are you looking forwards to Rebel Moon? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

Personally after becoming completely disheartened with a lack of Netflix quality of entertaining, I binned them along with that other franchise that has a rodent fronting them. I have of late been content with movies from the 19th century. I feel if I'm going to have cheese it may as well be E additive free, with binary characters and a storyline that is linear. So on the whole I shan't bother at all with a SW fan flick film.

Soon as I saw rotten tomato critics review bombing it, it made excited to watch it. Lol. Every time critics review bomb something there’s a catch. 90% of the time when they review bomb something the audience ends up giving it average to above average score. Never listen to reviews, especially fucking RT critics. Always make up your own mind.

To be fair, this was a movie made for Netflix, why are people expecting a masterpiece. Also, if Snyder leaned into character development, people would complain the movie dragged on, and spent far too much time on character development, and outrage gets more clicks and engagement than praise. There's a profit motive behind shitting on things for no reason.

The 1973 Japanese series, The Water Margin, based on the legendary 14th century Chinese novel of the same name, managed to have the main protagonist, Lin Chung, recruit different outlaws to his cause each week, while managing to include a new side story in each episode, and advancing the central plot each week also. These episodes were 45 minutes long and cost next to nothing to make.

I wouldn't say Magnificent 7 ripped off Seven Samurai, per se. The studio, director, writers AND actors all praises Seven Samurai as a superior film and story. However, MGM did secure the rights from TOHO to make the western retelling of the story. Both are immensely popular and beloved, by the way. The problem is that TOHO didn't actually have the writes to the story to actually sell, as Kurosawa, Hasimoto and Oguni still had those and sued TOHO. It ended up settled out of court with everyone going away happy-ish.

@@BayWa4eva that's what I thought. I think they could have just used enough dialogue for character backstory where we could fill in with our imagination. See: Obie Wan talking to Luke about his past and about Anakin Skywalker. It took almost no time and we understood just enough to be on board with the story at hand. But YES you are so right, there was enough runtime on this thing they could've just made the backstory part of the whole movie.

Please tell me that we are getting a Farscape review series soon. I remember watching it for the first run through, you know, back when we had to record it on VHS. Way back when the BBC saw "Jim Henson's Creature Shop" and erroneously leapt to the "safe for children" conclusion. I still vividly remember the week when it did not air in it's usual 6PM Monday night time slot and I had to pick up my printed TV Guide Magazine to solve the enigma. Strangely it transpired that the amazing episode "Scratch and Sniff" had been moved to a post watershed 10pm slot on the following Saturday night.

This sounds like a Final Fantasy video game. You run around collecting a party, but wait, they need to be convinced, get a side quest, get the new teammate, move to next zone. Yeah grey morality can be very annoying in a story especially when it's often something that the majority know to be a clear cut subject. Evil acts while they can be justified by the character should never go unpunished. They should always have a consequence. Grey morality I think should be used where hero characters are given limited morally right choices and no option is morally greater then the other. Like for instance picking which of their friends to save from falling off a cliff. It's grey in the sense that the character has to make that split second choice but not grey as in he'll overlook vile acts. Grey stuff should also be something that haunts a character or for the bad guy to use against them. Of course grey morality also depends on genre, general theme of the story and other things. It varies on how well it is done. I think every few ever get it right for me. Good versus Evil isn't a bad thing in a story and it takes an expert story teller to go against human morality. Hollywood you just aren't good enough to do that.

Which brings Farscape back into the discussion re: Scorpius. He is all of those things, and more, yet still a sympathetically grey villain. Helped by the fact that, somewhat ironically, most of the cast are heroic, yet selfish, flawed, morally grey individuals. Babylon 5 treads much the same lines; both use a lot of "the enemy of my enemy" setups for some very uneasy alliances. Yet see how badly they tried to achieve that with KyloRey in Disney Wars...

My favorite part of this review is the comparison of elegant worldbuilding and story development of a series like Farscape compared to the more ham-handed worldbuilding approach common to more recent productions, like Rebel Moon apparently - and sadly. There was a good reason why George Lucas started with "Episode Four" of Star Wars rather than starting with three installments of young Anakin versus the Jedi Council. He knew it would work better to drop the audience right in the middle of the action, then gradually show them the universe later. To borrow a phrase, "This is the way".

Sucker Punch and even the abortions of his DC movies are full of great, even iconic, shots. We will never see his Battfleck warehouse fight upstaged. Dear Hollywood: Start your story as close to the INCITING INCIDENT as you possibly can. Let's look at some older movies for examples: Frodo's inciting incident is Bilbo leaving the Shire, and leaving the ring to him. We get, what, ten or twenty minutes of what life in the Shire is like before Frodo gets dropped into running for his Hobbit life? Look way back at some Western movies, I'm going to go with A Fistful of Dollars, Clint Eastwood walks his mule into a town controlled by two rival gang families. One of the families insults Eastwood's mule, and Eastwood immediately takes it out on the young men who insulted him, and then immediately goes and sells his services to the other family, so he can play both sides against themselves. It takes five minutes of screen time to introduce the character and you know basically everything you need to know about him. But, hey, shooting on film was expensive. There wasn't nearly as much freedom to just do whatever and linger on the scenery or anything. You got past all that so you could keep BUILDING the character! Tell the story!
