Rebranding China's conflicted Xinjiang region as a tourist destination

Western China's vast and beautiful Xinjiang region became notorious for the arbitrary detention and "re-education" of hundreds of thousands of Muslim Uyghurs, whose language and cultural identity have been seen by China's Communist Party as a threat to its total control. But following global condemnation for its crackdown on the Uyghurs, China claimed its so-called re-education centers were shut down in 2019. CBS News correspondent Elizabeth Palmer recently traveled to Xinjiang on a government tour to see how the region is now being re-branded by China as a fun-filled destination for international tourists.

Ridiculous. I'm always mistaken for a turkish person in Germany and was traveling, with my "muslim looks" (that's how German society says it to me) all across Xinjiang and saw how much better muslims and muslim culture is treated in China (including inside Xinjiang) than it is treated in the West. Just an example: You'll see mosques EVERYWHERE in Xinjiang and a lot of them are being renovated, new ones are being build. Muslim culture is everywhere, the CPC financially supports muslim businesses and protects cultural and historic places. The Uyghur language can be found all across Xinjiang, on bus/train stations, the airport, restaurant signs, street signs, universities, you name it. Now imagine the reaction if we had the same in Germany, the USA or the UK with arabic language!!! The West would go crazy and resurrect Hitler! And you dare to claim China treats muslims bad? China is one of the most diverse place on earth, where people of different ethnicities live together, unlike in Palestine/Israel. And speaking of Universities, the Chinese government gives Uyghurs and other minorities in China special privileges such as easier entry into China's (top) Universities. And no, I wasn't forced to go with a guide or "PaiD bY tHe CcP" as western media and their online pundits always claim. You (yes, YOU who is reading this right now) can visit Xinjiang and go anywhere you want without a guide and see for yourself what the truth is. Also use any translation apps of your choice to talk with anyone you want in Xinjiang and let them tell you about their lives. You'll quickly find out that you've been fooled big time by western media and western governments!

In my high school year, the minorities ethnics were given 20 credits more than Han ethnic, and lower threshold to entry undergraduate school.... I was envying them during my high school years 😭

That's true, but you don't see the Chinese government exposing itself like you do the United States exposing itself... at least in the United States we are taught about what happened before anyone alive today was born... in China the schools do not teach about this at all. This is a flawed argument attempting to try and call the US bad when in reality both situations are bad and only United States exposes It's a problems when China does not. Nice try there

How come Elizabeth Palmer did not point out that some of these so called victims showed up in the European court 3 times as 3 different people? And that one of those 3 times even as "former Xijiang policeman", another "victim" claimed that his father's grave was vandalized, but when REAL investigative reports, i.e. not the likes of Elizabeth Palmer, went to talked to the "victim's" mother, she led the reporter to exactly where her husband's grave was, where it has aways been. Untouched. No vandalism. There are plenty of western travelers who traveled to Xijiang had no problem talking to the locals. But Palmer claimed she was not allowed? Yeah, right.

China's says, you as an individual has the freedom to believe a religion, and the extension of that is, you as the individual, have the freedom to not believe in a religion. A central piece not mentioned by Xinjiang separatists is that their Muslim Uyghur faction forces all Uyghur to believe in Muslim, even if someone doesn't want to. They accuse these people not true Uyghurs. Uyghurs can't drink alcohol, etc. China's policies and education for everyone is that, you can believe in Muslim, but you should be able to make rational judgement whether you want to believe in Muslim or any other religion, and there should not be any pressure for you to not believe in the religion if you don't want to.

What is wrong with teaching children to speak the national language? Is it genocidal to teach American children to speak English? The Uighurs speak their native language and Mandarin just like other provinces, in the same way for example that I speak Cantonese and Mandarin in my hometown of Guangzhou.

Could you ask the Pakistanis if they prefer to live in Xinjiang or the West Bank? Whether they want to face the Israeli army or the Chinese army. I’ve just been there and locals live happily. You know the Kashgar ancient city previously was run down and the Uyghur locals had no sanitation systems. The government renovated the homes for the Uyghur locals where the locals can chose unique designs for their homes. The government never relocated the people. Now many locals have their businesses on their doorstep! Kashgar is a peaceful and harmonious city and the people including the Uyghurs are thriving 🩷

We may also take a look at the rebranding of Afghanistan, which is bordering Xinjiang. Our country stayed in Afghanistan for 20 years and invested $2+ trillion. We absolutely tried to respect human rights and protect Afghan people. I believe we never built any concentration camps for Afghanis, but our military stayed mostly in the self concentration bases for security. Now Afghanistan must be a terrible place without GIs.

This report tries to find derision to a CPC resolution against the US-backed terrorist forces in Xinjiang. Yes, it depicts the recent prosperity of Xinjiang. But again, it is trying to find faults with nuance on what the CPC is doing for the Uyghur people and all citizens residing in Xinjiang. It is like saying that the Xinjiang people live the good lives with a pay that the journalist is implicating to be a sacrifice of their freedom. But is it really? Freedom to smile, to receive abundance is better compared to the Freedom to Speak against the Government that has been performing well for their people. And the progress pf many in Xinjiang cities shows that. Perhaps, this journalist wants to see Chaos because she has been seeing many in her country and having those issues are 'good' (?) for their media channels. She is just jealous the Chinese government is doing great for the Xinjiang people that anti-China groups and Pentagon were brewing years after finding the resources in Xinjiang, which include gold, oil, natural gas and rare earth minerals. These are resources that the Western governments wanted to covet in Xinjiang. And we all know how desperate these Western governments are in pillaging other countries' wealth. Too bad, they are facing off a GIANT. And so, what they have to do is to SLANDER, fabricate LIES and spread the ANTI-CHINA PROPAGANDA.
