I really hope you all enjoy the update and progress on the GMC! I’m really sorry I didn’t get this video up before Kayla and I went on our trip. Getting married and having children young..we’ve never been on a trip just the two of us. We really had a wonderful time together! We’re back and it’s full steam ahead. Next video will be Part 2 of the Falcon Wagon Rescue. With lots of parts showing up for the GMC, another update will come shortly after! Thank you all so much for the continued Love and Support! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

your missing the backing strip on the driver side main sliding window. And the driver side window backing strip on the sliding glass isn't painted..... Passenger side backing strip for the main glass windows is missing as well. I mean the backing strip is on the both passenger and driver rea main windows glass... (((NEVERMIND))) You got them. that what I get for saying something without finishing the video first...

a trick I learned with silicone is to tape around where you are going to apply it, then when you are done applying it and pressing it with your finger (or a tool) then you can peel the tape back before it dries and BOOM you've got a perfect line/edge around your silicone.

This is such a fascinating refurb - I am absolutely rapt watching each installment. And it's not lost on us the incredible amount of work that goes on between the abbreviated footage you're showing: scraping off the old window sealant, chiseling out the old gaskets, cleaning out the window channels, buffing out the surrounding areas, custom cutting the new gasket material, resealing, painting, ... for each and every window! Can't wait to see how you handle the ceiling liner. Thanks for taking us along on this epic journey! PS: a) your dad is a saint, and b) love it when you show the kids chipping in.

The body shop I used say never wax first where you’re going to paint. Paint everything first, then wax. Wax dust and residue messes with the paint sticking
@BudgetBuildz
@BudgetBuildz 7 ай бұрын
Good point! Thanks for pointing that out. We only cut/buffed and have not waxed yet. I primarily stayed to the body and not the window frames. Hopefully we don’t have issues. I just didn’t want to attempt bugging after the fresh paint and silicone.

Loving it, but on painting the trim don’t go back and forth stopping in the middle. Even though it’s satin, you will still see some flat spots. Paint it like you normally would, do one complete pass. The outcome will look as good as a professional paint job. Looking forward to the interior redesign.

We're just watching this today - 5 months later. What a cool rig! At 22:40 where you have the paper masking for the paint, that would be a beautiful color for the whole unit! Sort of a beige / olive drab color. It would blend so well with the window frames and the roof-top units. The old original white is cool, but I love a darker color like newer units.

Great tips on Golby Motorhome Parts Supply online, and DAP Dynaflex Ultra for exterior window trim. I really needed both. Many thanks! Learning a lot of tips for fixing pesky problems in my own RV. The GMC windows are looking so sharp now!. The whole motorhome is looking so good. What a great job you did, both on restoration, tips for us, and videotaping the work. Outstanding! Thank you!! Tip: Mineral spirits removes silicone. I use Q tips dipped in MS and edge it neatly. Tip: If you are going to paint it yourself, use Durabak 18 Polyurethane paint. The solvent is Xylene. Sand lightly, Xylene rub down, and paint. You can roller brush it on, or spray, it self levels so looks very good with roller brush. You need a mohair brush only. The roof can also be painted on metal or EPDM/ TPO roofs, as this stuff is flexible. It is a bedliner paint but not brittle like most epoxy bedliners like Raptor or Rhino. Standard solid colors only. For a slight custom look, use KP Pigments 50 gms to 1 gal Clear Durabak. Apply as topcoat on base solid coats. This can give you a metallic or pearly look. There are some samples on KZbin. Short shelf life of 1 yr unopened. Short pot life /working time but longer than Epoxy paints. You have 1-2 days max. It needs 2 coats, and follow directions about dry time between. You will get a satin sheen finish, not glossy. Advantages of Durabak: 1. Small dings don't show. 2. Thick, robust paint does not scratch like delicate car paint. 3. No need to spray, just roller brush on outside. Dust is not a big deal. 4. Also comes in textured paint (with crumb rubber) for better grip on roof or bath floor. 5. Paints over any surface from rubber cloth, to wood, metal, plastic, fiberglass, concrete, carbon fiber, etc. 6. US Navy uses this paint on their boats and decks. 7. You can paint your dashboard with it too, if it is faded. It looks factory made. 8. If you paint cabinets, it looks very durable like a factory made item. 9. Prep with orbital hand sander, no need to etch the metal, just remove any rust, seal and prime those spots, wipe down with Xylene and add two coats of Durabak. fyi for readers: LED Wholesale Supply in Hayward, CA has a lot of nice LED light bulbs 12V. The plastic amber lights can be bought anywhere cheap and you need to then buy the LED bulbs to match the socket. Socket is either bayonet, or pin or other. Lots of socket shapes so look them up to identify what socket base you have, and match up with replacement in 12V LED. You can use existing 110V wiring on any lamp to convert it to 12V lamp using a 12V bulb, but you cannot take thin 12V wiring and use it for 110V lamps. This is in case you want to convert a house type light fixture for RVs or convert a regular 12V bulb to LED 12V bulb. I found this store to be well priced and lots of choices. I changed all my RV bulbs for LED. One word of warning - All bulbs come in Kelvin ratings. Kelvin is the COLOR of the light - white, daylight, yellow, bluish. Softer lights need 2300 - 3000 Kelvin to get the typical yellowish light bulbs like incandescent bulbs. I found this the most pleasing. Do not mix with a higher Kelvin like 4000 K (white halogen light), or 5000 - 6000 Kelvin (blue tube light). 12V LED Tube lights should all be 3000 - 4000 Kelvin as 2300 is too pinkish. For comparison to watts, check Lumens in LED.

Love your Videos. On your use of Silicone. Try using 90% rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle. Lay your head on then lightly spray the bead and wipe tight with your finger. Trick I learned caulking new showers and countertop. I used this method on the sealer I used on my RV. It was mineral based so I used mineral spirits in the spray bottle. Good luck on your future videos!
