He hasnt had anything close to what the Warriors have had over him, hell I’ve never seen a Dame led team with as good of a cast as Memphis, the Kings, or many other teams have this season. the team has never drafted any significant talent around him aside from CJ and Simons (who just so happen to do the exact same thing) In your recommendation of him selling out to a superteam, he’d be criticized the exact same way KD is, which is more frequent and more negative conversations than Dame’s currently been mentioned in for being ringless

If they were truly bout it bout it all in on winning Dame a ring, they’d trade Simons. Him as your 2 is just like running CJ/Dame back except w a younger CJ w upside. They also would’ve traded Sharpe & Nurk except on a shorter deal (or the pick and let Nurk walk whatever way it worked) for like Myles Turner and something decent back bc that pick is way too valuable to just get Turner for it. Then Simons they actually got for a real good contract. 4/100 no player option from age 23-26 seasons which is insane he’s that young. Feel like you could’ve traded him for like a 3&D type SG or a combo guard that can defend. He’s valuable, good deal, super young, and could be a franchise PG for a young team. I’d just trade Dame (I would’ve a minute ago) and rebuild around Simons as my PG, Sharpe SG, then the T7 pick or w/e, Knicks pick, keep some of the younger cheap guys, maybe Reddish/Thybulle if they wanted to take cheap deals, then I’d S&T Jerami for like a decent 1st. I figure since it’s a S&T that’s the best you could do. Obv if he had a year or two left on his deal you could prolly get a really nice 1st or multiple decent ones. It’s very obvious the current owner DGAF about this team. She inherited it from her brother (like a $50B trust or something nuts) who actually loved ball, seemed like a cool guy. There’s a clause in the trust that says she has to sell the team by a certain time, but nobody knows exactly when that is…just that it’s supposedly not too far off. Maybe in the next 2-3 seasons max? Idk. But she’s not gonna pay the tax on this team. I’d be surprised if she did, and it wouldn’t be much if so. They wanna keep selling tickets and Dame does that. Keep collecting that $ for being a non taxpayer. And keep the value as high as possible which means acting like you’re trying to contend, but really making sure you have good assets that make the team desirable for the future. Just having Simons, Sharpe, all their own future picks, cpl other young guys, and then by the time she’s ready to sell the TV $ will prolly be starting to flow in and they can leave it up to the new owner(s) on the Dame decision if he hasn’t asked out by then. Regardless this team isn’t contending for a thing. We’ve seen that trying to toe that line by cutting corners, not being willing to go well in to the tax, and making sure you have all or most of ur assets means you aren’t winning. You have to pick a direction. But it’s clear the owners direction is money and not rly caring. I truly understand Dame built a life in Portland and loves it there. His friends, family, business, everything is there. And he’s wealthier than imaginable from playing bball. But he doesn’t have many years left playing at an extremely high level. I honestly don’t think there’d even be time to turn it around and truly contend if they wanted to at this point. It takes years to turn over a roster. He’ll be going in to his age 33 season in 23-24. He’s under contract until 26-27. He maybe has two more seasons left at THIS high of a level, like All-NBA level. Then you expect to see some decline, even if it’s just to like all star level or w/e. That’s barring major injury. If he’s okay with the very strong chance of not contending in POR, I have nothing against that. Live your life how you want. I don’t know him, but from all the comments he’s made and interviews etc, he seems extremely competitive. It seems like it’d eat at him a little if he never got a true shot at it. I just HOPE that if he chooses to stay there, it’s not under the guise that contention is truly possible. Maybe a second round if they really go hard to compete? But if he thinks he can actually win a chip in the next 3 seasons or w/e in POR, and they’re selling him on that, he’s being lied to straight up. His loyalty is being taken advantage of bc they know that’s what he wants to hear. If he REALLY wants a chance to make a run to at least the conference finals where they have a good chance at a finals, and a real chance at a ring, he’s prolly gotta get out of there this off season. It’s a lot tougher to make these star trades now w the new CBA, but they said they were going to ease parts of it along. It might literally be the last chance he can feasibly even be traded to a contending situation with how big his deal is, and how many assets POR likely wants in return. And they’ll never trade him unless he asks out. The not being able to trade picks 7yrs out thing is already huge in hurting him, no TMLE, all that stuff. But if you’re past that second apron, you most importantly can’t take on more $ than u send out in s trade. They said they’d likely not do $1 for $1 year 1. Right now it’s like 125%+100K. Maybe they’ll do like 115% next year, then it’ll be $1/$1 after. Also not many teams need PGs that are in a situation to contend. Maybe BKN goes for it and tries to build around Dame, Mikal, Cam Johnson, Claxton, and they trade a boat load of picks for him with some left over to make smaller moves like Joe Harris and a cpl picks for a guy or two? The list is tiny where a team wouldn’t have to gut their depth just to match salary, let alone assets, and needs a PG.

I think the issue with dame is he needs a solid 2 guard who can score and defend on par with a Klay, or pg and a great low post defender who can also put up 17-20 ppg and grab 10+ boards. A great defender as his backcourt partner. Until then he is doomed with having to average super high scoring numbers because he himself isn't a great defender.
