Thanks buddy. Its a nice easy job that saves you an absolute fortune. Car went on the brake tester last week and the brake reading was perfect!

Great video, Im doing the same job on a 2003 R53 Cooper S tomorrow, so thanks for the pointers. Like youreself, I'd rather rebuild a perfectly serviceable part, than simply relace it at extra cost. I may sound like an old fat, but I remember watching real mechanics rebuilding calipers we I was a laddie, something which I don't see with todays crop of part fitters.

Cheers buddy, aftermarket calipers simply don't last and if you can rebuild them then it saves you a fortune plus its better than filling a landfill site!

I'm currently in the process of my 2004 R53 back up to par. When checking out the brakes I noticed mine were ready for the bin. 😃 If I could get this kit I'd be set instead I'm tracking my parts down piece by piece. Finding this video gives me 200% more confidence in knowledge. Very good job! 👏 You guys over the pond have it made when it comes to MINIS, much love and support from the states!

Thank you Andrew, I'm glad the video has helped you. We're very fortunate here in the UK with obtaining parts for these cars. The R50/53 are the best of the bunch in my opinion. All the best, Sean

Didn't even finish the video to see that you paid £15 for the kit! I just paid twice that for 2 sets of caliper guide pins and boots on Amazon. Wow, you're turned out beautiful. Hope I can exude ¾ the patience and elbow grease you put into that, turned out nicely! Great work, motor on! 🇬🇧🚗🤙

@@BMCWorkshop Oww, I loved my R50 slicktop (black with white roof and accents), I loved that car. It was actually my first manual. In hindsight it was more reliable than the R53 has been. Unfortunately the transmission died, when that happened I paid nearly $1750.00 for a rebuild kit from the U.K. My pops and I took that job on. Unfortunately, it only managed another 20k miles or so before it died again. From day 1 of test driving that R50 I knew that I would never not own a MINI. Love 'em and the community.

@Andrew Riley thanks buddy, new calipers aren't cheep and rebuilding them is very easy so this is what I do with them. Cheers, Sean

@Andrew Riley the early R50's transmissions were weak as they were the Rover Transmissions but in 2004 they changed them for the German Getrag Transmissions which could handle more power. I've since sold my R50 but still do the odd bit of maintenance on it as it was a friend who bought it and he loves the car

I just find it amazing how much pressure that piston seal can take and not leak a drop.
@BMCWorkshop3 жыл бұрын
Yes it's amazing what these things can handle. There must be a good hundred or so psi going through the calipers when you depress the pedal
@paulrobinson35283 жыл бұрын
@@BMCWorkshop 5/600 psi during normal braking to around 2000psi at emergency braking. You must be thinking of single leading front Mini brakes lol. Thats why that little seal amazes me!

I didn't on this occasion as the bores were perfect but I have done on other calipers in the past
