I decided to rebuild the engine that came out of the new Magnum and not let it go to waste. After some disassembly I found out that the engine was gone through but never ran because the prior person timed it wrong and bent all of the valves, and since everyone doesn't like music you get that sweet sweet ASMR.

I love your attention to detail with everything you do. Most people wont spend that much time making something right before they sell it. You are a stand up dude that cares about his reputation over making an extra buck here and there.

And if you have a Chrysler 2.7 liter engine with 150,000 or more miles you should be in the automotive hall of fame!

I have a 2.7 I was working on fixing currently... Timing chain went through the valve covers at like 242 I think it was ? It was super super clean on the inside. I owned it since around 170 or so ? I just realized I probably need to swap the valves because im not a car guy and didn't understand. I have everything back in place too I just needed to put it all together and now im going to have to take it apart again won't I ? 😭

Great engine rescue! Was kinda weird to see the Mustang dirty again and then get clean during the duration of the video lol. Take care.

actually, FYI, the marks on the crankshaft, when lined up puts the assembly at something like 30 degrees AFTER TDC, because that's a position where the valve train can freely rotate without colliding with any of the pistons. Thinking that it's TDC could be confusing for someone who tries to set the timing by piston position and wondering why they can't line up the crankshaft marks (and could be especially bad if they decide to BELIEVE the piston position OVER the crankshaft marks)

I am lying here with a crook back, thinking your engine stand is too low for you. If you have ever had a sore back, you would realise the need to be standing more uprigjt when working on your engines. Definitely something to consider. Cheers, Keith.

I didn't hear you mention it in the video so I hope you used new torque to yeild bolts. Whenever a torque spec says x amount of foot pounds plus y# degrees it's an indication that the bolts are torque to yeild and they cannot be reused. If you did reuse those bolts I recomend you take the engine apart and replace them with new torque to yeild bolts.

I am in the process of rebuilding a 2.7 from an 08 Magnum. Do you have any place that you can reccomend for the timing setting and torque specs? I saw what you did just a little more detailed. or if you can communicate it to me. Thanks.

The 2.7 was such a crap motor I can't fathom why anyone would spend $2K on one instead of doing a 3.5 swap. Having said that, you did a good job on this rebuild Dave, hope you sell it quickly and the new owner enjoys it.

Awesome job. I would love to see you do the same to a Hemi engine. I was going to buy an srt8 with head gasket issue and wanted to do timing as well but backed out because thought it would be too much to do. Thanks for the vid.

Do oil changes every 3000 miles and change the water pump and the complete timing chain assembly with guides every 60,000 to 85,000 miles. The engine is so smooth, a joy to drive!

It's a 2.7 engine - it's not worth spending money on it. They're garbage engines plagues with oil sludge issues. Now if it was a 3.5 it might be worth it. Save your money for another project - especially when someone else has already been in that engine.
