Hey kyle for your cooling system needs you should run distilled water to remove the minerals from the water...also get some stuff called water wetter. Should take care your issues and water wetter still is safe for the track.

Correct distilled water + coolant. Coolant and or water wetter has anti corrosion properties. Surprised both Brent and Kyle didn't know that as its common beginner knowledge.
@Unsungboss8
@Unsungboss8 6 ай бұрын
That is correct. Tap water has impurities which then turn to gunk together with the Coolant ... Easiest is just flush once or twice and fill with straight 50/50 Premixed coolant .

I'm pretty sure it had like half of the compression it should have. If anyone knows the stroke and compression ratio we could find out how low on compression it was.

Assuming it was a 10-1 engine from factory (came in many configurations so just picking a number as an example) the bore volume is 539.18cc and with the 10-1 makes the combustion chamber approx 53.918cc, add the extra 2mm of volume (11.89cc) to the combustion chamber (11.89+53.918) equals 65.808cc for the corrected combustion chamber with shorter rods. Re calculating compression ration of a cylindar volume 539.18cc to the corrected combustion chamber of 65.808cc you get about a 8.193-1 compression ratio. All numbers based on approximate assumptions but close enough to make the point of what 2mm difference in piston TDC height can make to compression ratio. Increasing from 8.2-1 to 10-1 will be very noticable as far as power figures go!!! Great success
@2LegitTooQuit
@2LegitTooQuit 6 ай бұрын
Great breakdown and calculations but no two motors were the same because even at the factory during assembly those numbers could be off by so many thousandths but still be within their tolerance specs so it’s hard to say an exact calculation unless stripped brand new and running the numbers/tolerances

I had the same rust issue with my low mile S2000. I figured its attributed to the sleeves. Even though the block itself is aluminum they still use ductile iron or steel sleeves that can form rust in the water jackets around each cylinder especially if you don't change coolant for many years or run straight water as you do. Mine was so bad it clogged my heater core. I managed to clean it all out by dumping in some CLR (Calcium, Lime, Rust remover) letting it sit overnight and back-flushing the coolant system with a garden hose. Since you use straight water, you should look into using water wetter to keep from forming new corrosion.

Don’t forget to back the timing off to compensate for higher compression and smaller combustion chamber volume...back it off 5-6 degrees in your tables, read the spark plugs, and slowly work it back in...if you don’t, your old tune might ventilate a piston under “all” the boost.
