One of the best things I ever did was help my old boss build a garage for my Father. My Pop wanted a two-car carriage shed garage with a loft, and a 14” I-beam running from side to side mid garage. Over the years, we used a beam dolly with chain falls or come-alongs to pull engines, vehicle bodies, heavy equipment off trailers, etc. It was a great. It was a great benefit in lieu of a crane, and we had a fun time using that feature for our projects. Thanks for the video Jesse! I love watching the tear downs and re-builds and whatever project comes along. Stay Safe!!! 👍😎🇺🇸

Okay, To flush the transmission do this. Put the cooler lines you took of the radiator into a bucket. Start the engine and pump out the fluid until it stops flowing. Drain any remaining fluid if it has a drain plug. leave the cooler lines in bucket. Re fill the transmission and then start the engine. this will pump out the contaminated fluid and not recirculate it back into the transmission. repeat until clean. Works every time. Cheers Stew.

Having your workshop built and a roof over your head has given you a blessing to get all these jobs completed. Quite an interesting machine. Thank you for sharing, Jesse. Lots of hard tedious work. I'm sure it's difficult to do. Very interesting to watch your diagnostic skills and plan of repairs. Yes it probably was a blessing how the radiator -transmission cooler leak became evident. Use an external oil cooler with it's own fan mounted as far away from the radiator as you can get it. If the oil cooler or hoses start leaking mounted to the front of the radiator, oil will coat the radiator and dirt will quickly clog up the fins.

One KZbin site I visited used an oil/water separator. Coolest thing I'd ever seen. The guy had a skidder or some foresting equipment. His hydraulic oil became contaminated with water and he rented this separator, ran the equipment while running the separator. The milky oil started darkening up, water was pulled out of the oil. It took several hours, but he cleaned up the oil. Not sure it would work in your circumstance.

Hey Jesse, don't feel bad about your projects going sideways on you. I had it happen to me at the tail end of last week. I replaced the intake manifold gaskets, heater coolant tube and the water pump on my 2002 Ford F150 and my engine repair turned out perfectly. It runs beatiful. However my truck lasted until the next day because my gas tank, which I already knew was going to need replacing, decided to spring a leak when I put 10 gallons ($40 worth) of gas in it. Now my truck is still down until I can get a replacement tank for it. So you''re not the only one my friend. Keep at it!
@chrisoakey98415 ай бұрын
Try headers coming out the side hole instead of that manifold. Then you can even mount the exhaust on springs. It will also keep some heat away from your cylinder.

All do respect the acid does not affect bearing life. The oil builds up acids in them. That finger print acid deal was old timers not knowing. I have built plenty of engines have a had 0 issues. You want them clean at install, but it does not matter if you have oil on your hands or not.
@cortcam6645 ай бұрын
Yes, the dowels are for the gasket. If dowels were bigger, the gasket would not fit. Head holes are just clearance holes. you figured that out already. nice video, very good job on it all. Engineering wise, and I am one, if you had tight dowels into head, with that many head bolts, the tolerances would require larger head bolt clearance holes. So they used semi tight clearances holes to locate head good enough. Gasket staying in position is vital when putting on heavy clumsy head. Nothing really super critical to align between head and block on this probably. (water jacket holes) ( push rods)

There are places that rent filter carts specifically for removing water from hydraulic systems like that. That might be something to look into for the transmission. You can also boil the water out of the oil you have and reuse it if you're willing to go to the trouble.

Jessy, re the oil cooler bypass. It appears to be a similar setup to water heating in a Pool heat pump unit. In that the heat exchanger is most effective at a specific flow of liquid, and in the case of a pool, the pool pump pushes far more volume than the heat exchanger can manage thermally. In the case of a pool heat pump, they have a bypass loop that you can calibrate so that the pool pump can work at its maximum throughput, and you can wind back the flow of the Heat pump input so that only a percentage of the total liquid travels through the heat exchanger on each cycle. For example, A pool pump may push 5500 gallons of water per hour, via the by-pass loop, only 500 to 600 gallons will pass through the heat exchanger within the same period. While this sounds counter-intuitive it means the thermal reaction of heating (cooling in your case) has the maximum time to do its work and thus while it takes longer to get to the desired temp, it gets there using much less energy than if you had a bigger heat exchanger. In your case that may also be a space-saving issue. Not sure this is actually what you are looking at, but it seems very much a plusable reason to me. i hope that helps D

Hello Jesse: Good job and I feel your frustration with the not so Incidental gremlins showing up. Regarding the head down pins. I am not positive, experience suggests to me that the original design of the engine to cylinder head attachment may have been studs & nuts instead of bolts. If this correct all the dowel pins would do is ensure proper placement of the head gasket. In some cases even if bolts are used temporary alignment studs are used to align head correctly then removed and replaced with bolts. Not very common today but pretty standard on old tractors & equipment.
@heptacampeon14 ай бұрын
Man I hope I’ll have your patience some day. About the miky oil situation I would get a 50 gal drum of the cheapest 30 weight oil you can get your hands on and keep doing that refill and flush until it comes clean. Then one more flush with the cheap oil just to be sure and then fill it with the good Shell one.

Jesse, dang my OCD kicks in watching installing parts when there's still grease and dirt on the machine. How come you don't spray degreaser and pressure wash it clean and spray a little yellow paint 🤔. If you go through all that trouble, it would make sense to do that which down the road if there's ever a leak ( which seems to always happen with those machines ) you can easily spot it against a clean painted surface? Just my suggestion.... but other that you guys are doing a great job 👍
@jmuller865 ай бұрын
I explained in the video that I wanted to pressure wash it first but I already had the head off so I didnt want to pressure wash it until the head was on. But then the head was really late coming in so I just taped off the head and washed the engine anyways. I would much rather have had it clean from the beginning

You should mount some polycarbonate windows on the telehandler. You could have them lift onto bolts so in the summer when not raining just lift them off. When sitting, or cold, lift them on to seal the cab.
@chrisoakey98415 ай бұрын
I think you should go with the external transmission cooler. A cheap radiator with electric fan should do that easy. You can also run your normal radiator with light oil instead of coolant to remove rust.
