That crank is now TOAST, so you'll need a replacement, along with a complete gasket, seal and bearing set. A manual is a MUST purchase, 👍.

Why do you say the crank is Toast? That can be saved. Press it apart and if the puller damaged the ends so what. It can be re machined. I’ve salvaged worse.

Hi mate, I'm pretty clued up on rebuilding bike engines I've got 13 years experience, been doing it for a long time mainly Honda's, the gear box is easier to put back together with a parts diagram it makes your life a lot easier and the mushroomed crank you couldn't have helped the puller did due to its tighteness and ignore the mechanic police everyone messes up along the way but it's always fixable so ignore the idiots saying "painful watch" I've snapped plenty of bolts and casings when I first started out. Keep going and drop me a message if you need advice.

Nice one! I love little old dirt bikes, had a couple of DT's in the past. Great to see you making yourself vulnerable as a mechanical noob in front of us all with such humility, hats off for that and great to see such a variety of bikes too! Congratulations on getting an impact wrench - you'll find it invaluable if you're planning a lot of strip-downs (don't use it for tightening though!). Although you can get by using your regular sockets, you might want to invest in some dedicated impact sockets, which are usually chrome-moly and black, rather than the silver, chrome-vanadium ones from your ratchet set. The cr-mo sockets are ductile and designed to withstand the wrench's vibrations. The cr-v sockets are more rigid and aren't designed to take the impacts that the wrench delivers. They can shatter and could also cause premature wear to the wrench's anvil because they don't properly absorb the shocks. (The same goes for any adapters/extensions you use with the impact gun.)

It's easier to split the cases from the primary drive side and tap the input shaft as you go so the cases halves come apart straight. The collar behind the sprocket can corrode on to the output shaft, and the bearing that it traps usually has a retaining plate keeping it in the case. Going from the primary side both shafts will come out with the other case half and you can disassemble the output shaft to get to the retaining plate if the collar is solid on the output shaft.

Ignore the keyboard warrior experts/critics on here. East to forget that once upon a time they didn’t know how to do this either. Some manners and a bit of encouragement would be better than criticism. Keep going, loving this.

A better way to get fly wheel off is to do the puller up and leave it overnight, the constant pressure finally gets them to come off. It’s not a good idea to keep cranking in the puller with a long bar as you will just break something.

@WoBlink1961
@WoBlink1961 Жыл бұрын
When using the flywheel puller, you should hit the centre bolt of the puller, NOT the flywheel! Have the engine held solidly (best done whilst still in the frame), and then hit it SOLIDLY with a big lump hammer, rather than a hammer made for nails. But you did it, though the belled end (ooer) will need some attention.....
