So I am sure you have seen the new Bullseye, it now has an actual PID control....and the price didn't change lol. Those competitive "market forces" must have told them if they increase the price they will lose customers. Rectec got a real dose of econ 101..funny how elasticity of demand makes you try a little harder. I am going to order one now, and keep of the good work, nice to see the product being highlighted.

nice review...convinced me that if I'm going to spend the money to save for a better pellet grill...quality is very important to me and I like stainless steel for endurance...I also would be willing to spend more money for a better controller for sure. I'm looking at the grilla grill for starters and then consider add ons later..like a searing grate, cover, etc...I can see the market rec tec is trying to reach, but I think they are sacrificing quality build to do it...especially after looking at some of their other grills...thank you.

Ive been a devout stick burner for smoking and charcoal for grilling guy for 30+ years. Gas to me is something you pass, wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Ive had an interest in a pellet grill for awhile and I purchased a Bullseye in March. I have cooked everything from chicken wings to prime rib with it. Its been kind of tough to adapt to. I will be using it for quick cooks, burgers, sausage ect. from now on. I did 2 sides of ribs and they came out ok, not very much smoke flavor and they reminded me of oven cooked. I wont cook steaks on it anymore either, they in no way compared to charcoal. I like the grill overall, but it will be used on a limited basis, it just doesn't give the flavor that I am accustomed to. I did buy the grill grates which I received yesterday and I am anxious to give them a try. Will be a great wing, burger, sausage and pizza grill.

Quick question for you: Does your Bullseye smoke from the hopper while cooking? I've read the manual that states it can do this when dirty and even cause a hopper fire (already happened to me once), but mine has been smoking out of the hopper since day one and continues to do so even after a shop-vac cleaning.
@StokedOnSmoke6 жыл бұрын
Have you called and chatted w/ REC TEC about this? Mine has only done it one time so far.
@toddwalker88346 жыл бұрын
I finally spoke with them regarding several issues. Turns out the smoke coming from the hopper was the result of the grill lid being too tight and not allowing any air to escape - which caused a vacuum of air to pull back through the hopper. Rec Tec sent me a "spacer" (just a bent metal bracket that mounts behind the lid screw) to gap the lid. Works great now, but I wish they had just made the vents on the back of the grill work properly.

considering the Bullseye..are you still happy with it ? Are there things you are not happy with?
@StokedOnSmoke6 жыл бұрын
i'm still happy with it and honestly cook on it more than any of my other rec tecs b/c of how fast it is to fire up and get to temp. during the work week, for quick cooks, it's my go-to grill. you'll hear a lot chatter about it not having a drip pan and people not liking that...but i've never had an issue. for the affordable price point, it's a no-brainer IMO. We'll see how long it holds up though. I keep mine covered when not in use and try to take care of it...
@cnwilson446 жыл бұрын
Definitely like how this thing looks. Looking at a GMG, a Traeger, and this rec tec. Can't decide which one would be best for me though! Looks like it puts out less smoke than others, which would be good for what I'd like to do. But even low and slow could be done. Looks good for having at an apartment
@valcomm56 жыл бұрын
Outstanding and very detailed review, Steve. You give some of the best reviews I've ever seen. I'm really digging this pellet smoker. A disposable pan would help a lot with the collection of grease.
@StokedOnSmoke6 жыл бұрын
Thanks brother! So far grease has been a non-issue...but yeah, a disposable pan isn't a bad idea if you wanna keep it cleaner.
@e-train64026 жыл бұрын
Won't some of the excess grease/splash get in to the burner? That could be why you can get flames up the sides. Not a fan of that. Wait and save till you have a few hundred dollars more, and get the trager with about the same surface area and more versatility
@StokedOnSmoke6 жыл бұрын
No, the flames that come up on the sides are b/c they hit the heat deflector plate then push out to the sides. It was designed that way. No grease can fall into the fire pot b/c of the size of the heat deflector plate. But to your point about saving $$$...if you're gonna do that, go with one of REC TEC's other higher end models over a Traeger.

brblum thank u I took the advice , and it seems to be a faulty igniter .
@Mike_B_7247 жыл бұрын
I imagine, for large cooks like a butt or roast, you could set a heavy pie pan or even cast iron skillet right in the center of that deflector to catch most of the drippings. Would save much cleanup effort afterwards.

I was disappointed to see the RT 300 Rec Tec Mini was dropped. Now I'm looking at maybe a Traeger or Green Mountain for a small form factor pellet grill.
@joeh.62627 жыл бұрын
Yea! Ive had my mini rt 300 for a few years now. Its the best! I think rectec messed up by dropping it. This one is not the RT 300.
@brblum7 жыл бұрын
Guys...this isn't the replacement for the Rec Tec mini. Rec Tec is coming out with another, presumably even better, portable grill. I believe February or March at the latest. This grill, the Bullseye, is really geared towards primarily hot grilling...steaks, burgers, dogs etc. You certainly can do low and slow, but that is what my Rec Tec 680 is used for.

I've had a few problems w/ mine here or there...but not many...and I cook on my all the time. I think they pulled it from their lineup to address some of the issues and I wouldn't be surprised if something similar (but improved) is released at some point...but could be wrong. I wouldn't give up on the company though. Their other grills are beast and their customer service is unmatched. You can call and either talk directly w/ the owners and/or the general manager. They will take care of you.

This is worth every penny. We have had just about every grill, smoker, green egg, out there as we cook out year round. I bought one of these for my wife for Christmas. She hates the green egg! Doesn't like messing with charcoal in the Weber! Scared of the propane grill. She likes our Traeger but I keep in in the shop and she has trouble getting it out. Our Traeger is about wore out and I was checking out the REC-TEC smokers when I saw the Bullseye. Bought it immediately as it's the perfect grill for my wife. And yes I was right, she loves this thing and I agree. It ROCK'S and is super fast, also easy to move around! Well she got her toy! Now it's time for me to order my new REC-TEC smoker. Just haven't decided which one yet. Great video, spot on. Thanks
@crisworkizer6 жыл бұрын
Can you add heat without the smoke, on a long cook you may have your color and smoke now you just need your heat to get to your temp.
@carykincaid276 жыл бұрын
To be honest we have never done a long slow smoke with it. I would still prefer a pellet smoker for that. The reason we like it so well is it's very fast. Get home late from work and still have time to cook steaks, burgers, chicken ect. Seriously I can get it fired up close the lid. Go in the house get your burgers out and seasoned, head back out and it's 500 degrees. I still plan on buying one of the new REC-TEC Smokers for the weekend long cooks. We have run about 80 pounds of REC-TEC pellets through it with no issues what so ever. Some posts i've seen people were concerned about grease build up because of no drip pan. For what it's worth we cooked 17 1/2 pound burgers on it last weekend all at once. I figured I would have a lot of grease to deal with so i let it run at 600 degrees for about 15 minutes. When it cooled down I checked the bottom and there was no grease at all. This thing is worth the money as I said. I will have to try a long smoke with it, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. Get the smoke ring you want then wrap in foil. Good luck sir,

@keithdarling34266 жыл бұрын
Very good review and it looks like a decent little entry level pellet grill. I agree with others that the lack of grease pan or tray of some kind looks like an accident waiting to happen. There are better grills out there in this price range.

$400?!?!?!? Geez...alot of great cookers at better price points. Great vid though. I was excited for it till I saw the price tag. Pit barrel and a WSM for me. I too would love to see a few cooks on this thing. The lid looks like it's meant for grilling...a pork butt looks like it would hit the top of the lid pretty easily, could be wrong but looks really shallow. May be constrained to only ribs and grilling.

This grill can do butts, ribs, brisket, steaks, chicken, just about anything you want. 22.5" WSM is $400. Pit Barrel is only 18" grates, only really cooks at a certain higher temp. Rec Tec knocked it out of the park with this. Perfect size, can cook anything on it, price includes shipping, top notch customer service. I have owned 2 Rec Tecs personally and about to purchase another one when new models come out with wifi.
