Recall on the Footwell Control Module for second gen Mini Coopers (2023)

just caught this vid.... when you were showing the text doc... you stopped short o nthe page that explained it was the sunroof drain hose issue deteriorating, which allowed rain to run down the A piller second paragraph... at the 1:41 mark

my 2010 had water comedown from the sun roof, some people get the the drains cleared by blowing air through, but there are rubber connections that can blow off making the drain open and funnels water down right on top of the foot well module. took my module out and cleaned all the corrosion put it back with a cover so if water came down it would go around the box.

Found that out too in another video I did. The drain hose is just a pressure fit with no clamp. Wish they put hose clamps on them. Good luck

I have had to have mine reprogrammed at least six times you must disconnect the footwell anytime you get a jump or remove your battery or disconnect your battery. Either that or pull the four fuses in the passenger compartment that relate to the footwell module. It is absurd and ridiculous that is taking this long for them to even look at fixing it. I've had so many problems with my 2012 r56 hatchback it's been nothing short of a nightmare. I've never owned anything that gave me so much grief, and I'm an adept DIY , electromechanically competent person. I respect BMW engineering but in my car's case maybe some people didn't show up that day.

My window randomly just broke down and then I scan it and it says Foot well modular but not every time

The paper we got said the dealership was working on a fix for the recall, haven't recieved a phone call or anything since. Should we call/go up to the dealership? Or should I just go to the ECU Pro?

The recall fix has to be approved by NHTSB. Once approved, they have make it and then it will trickle down to the dealers. I am guessing the dealer doesn’t know anything. I inspected mine and didn’t see any corrosion or signs of moisture. If you are not experiencing any issues, I would wait. Good luck

@@itsplug1681 Forgot to mention. There are a couple early video I made. One was rust under the door step trim and another was installing a rubber seal strip under the door. I think these may be related to how moisture is seeping into footwell.

I took my module out and it looks like two chips got hot, any time I discont the battery I get multiple codes , so I'm looking to send it off to get another one , I bought my mini used and have all kinds of issues do to this module, maybe a good lawyer can make it right.

Thanks for your video. I was at Mini dealer today 02/19/2024 and they said: still working on fixing... will be sending you a letter. I didn't buy car new... DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT AIR BAG ERROR LIGHT? I INSTALLED AN EMULATOR BUT COULDN'T CLEAR A CODE.ACTUALLY, THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL CODE NOW WITH SRS MODULE? ANY HELP APPRECIATED!

Not familiar with SRS module error. I had the air bag error because I removed and disconnected the seat and the turned on the car. This caused an error. I was able to clear it once I put everything back together. Multiple errors sound like the foot module. Look for water marks and rust. Good luck

They should remedy it regardless if it is showing signs of corrosion yet. Just because it isn’t causing issues today doesn’t mean it won’t tomorrow!

here's how you get corrosion there - if the rubber seals at the bottom of your lower front windshield trim deteriorate and allow debris (leaves, etc...) to get in it will plug up the drain holes at the bottom of the firewall and when it rains the water will collect and rise in front of the firewall overflowing into the passenger compartment - the carpet will be perpetually wet and the computer will eventually corrode and fail. don't ask me how I know...
