Hello David, The hubby and I had a visit to Halifax this past May and we loved it. I like to think that I enjoy being prepared. When covid started we ate for a month out of our freezer and cupboards before we even started to run low on the odd thing. All the best, Colleen

Colleen I make all my own tomato Sauce / Pizza sauce & yes also can them- I use my home grown tomatoes & also have a fabulous herb garden when available but if I could buy a big can of tomatoes like you used I would definitely use that. Great video Thank you. Cheers Denise- Australia
@oursilvermoments60282 жыл бұрын
Hello Denise, Making sauce from home grown tomatoes does take alot of time but in the middle of winter it certainly seems worth it. My garden space is small so I have to be thoughtful about what I plant in there. This makes using the big cans worth it. I always try to buy the cans that contain a single ingredient so that I can control everything that goes in the food. Best wishes, Colleen

Last time i tried canning it failed..couldn't get the jars out of the water upright..they sort of tilted then seemed to pop before i got them on dishcloth..was it because they tilted or were the lids too loose as i am quite weak wristed tbh..put me off trying again..any tips gratefully received x
@oursilvermoments60282 жыл бұрын
The new rules saw the rings only need to be finger tip tight but I do probably overnighten them a bit. But you should try to always keep the jars upright when the are hot coming from the canner.
@witcherwoo89382 жыл бұрын
@@oursilvermoments6028 so what happens when they come out crooked? Does it pop the seal, Colleen?
@oursilvermoments60282 жыл бұрын
@@witcherwoo8938When the contents of the jar are heated they expand which can cause the seals to allow food out, they call this siphoning. So when the jars get tipped while they are still hot it allows food particles to get between the jar and the seal which impedes the seal. I hope that makes sense.
