FYI you do not need connectors for these cans. You can put your wires in the black slots attached at the ends of the box. You simply open the top/cap and place the wire in the slot. This will save both time and money as you will not have buy and install the connectors.

I like to use the cans because I use blown in insulation for the attic. With those slim one,if you ever want to change them out insulation would fall down through the hole. With a can installed ,you can switch the trims out without worrying about that. Hope that help!

only thing about the can-less ones is you can’t change out the bulb…i’m a Philips Hue guy so the canned version would be my choice as i don’t like to have a lot of different platforms and apps to toggle between…other than that, the can-less ones are quick and easy to install…excellent content btw!

You don't need romex connectors for those. The black plastic parts are for romex. Just pop it up, slide in the romex and put on the cover.

@omarramos2465
@omarramos2465 Жыл бұрын
If you have cans (recessed) lights in your room and if you have attic space, then you can add another can by doing a remodel can and adding the 14 gauge wire to an existing junction box from a light and yeah. Rest is self explanatory

I wanna install new pot lights and I have a fairly good experience doing so in a new build, however, I am now trying to upgrade an existing room and not sure what would be the best way to run the wires. The room has two light fixtures in the ceiling obviously with own junction box for each. Each light fixture is controlled by a separate switch in that room while one of them is also controlled by another switch neat the stairs. I am also installing a dimmer switch with the pot lights. What's the best way to do it? Shall I connect all pot lights to the junction box controlled by the 3-way switch and completely cancel the other light switch/junction box in the room or split the pot lights in half, one half connected to one junction box and the other half to the other? Would that be weird or unprofessional to have to light up half of that room with one switch and the other half with another? Are pot lights supposed to light up all together in a given room or is it ok to split them between two switches. Moreover, if I did that then the dimmer switch can only control half of the lights and not all. Shall I install another dimmer switch for the other half of the pot lights and have each half function independently? I feel like it's gonna be unprofessional and maybe also annoying while trying to match the dim level on each switch. What do home renovators do in this case, do they cancel one light switch and it's junction box and just connect all pot lights to the existing 3-way switch and install the dimmer switch there? Thank you so much in advance.

Most the time you can get the wores back putnof the pop in connectors inside the cans you take the connector and pinch it and wiggle it back and forth while pulling and most the times they will come back out. Trust me i learned the hard way lol

You explain everything very well, i've been watching a lot of your videos. I'm doing some of the work and hiring a contractor for the rest, mainly electrical. I was thinking of doing the new clip in flat LEDs because they come with selectable light value but the contractor is saying to use new construction cans. I keep reading that these new construction cans leak a lot of air, do the ones you used address that? are they newer design or construction?

I am curious to know what downlight that was selected for this installation. I saw this in a Wirecutter article: High CRI and R9 values: CRI (Color Rendering Index) measures color accuracy relative to incandescent bulbs, or natural daylight. Although LEDs still can’t match incandescent bulbs, which have a CRI of 100, they’ve improved significantly in recent years. A CRI of 80 is now standard for LED bulbs. Higher is better, and great LED bulbs should accurately render colors. Lighting designer Geoff Goral told us that CRI as a metric has come under fire for measuring bulbs based on how well they portray pastel colors (instead of more saturated colors). Some bulbs now also list an R9 value, which indicates how well a bulb depicts red tones (making art, food, and people look better and less washed-out).

Pre strip your romex before you put it into your can, leave a slight service loop for adjustment reasons, 15 amp circuit for the love of god and make all your electrical work look like a work of art. Craftsmanship is key. I don’t like crooked runs of romex. Speed and efficiency. Find a balance

Does anyone else find the traditional advice of "ceiling height ÷ 2" for spacing to be incredible overkill? I've done a couple of rooms with recessed lights, and this advice would've required an insane number of lights and would've looked kinda insane. I've found anywhere between 75%-90% of ceiling height for spacing is as bright as I could ever want, and feels like much more normal spacing. Then, whatever spacing I used between lights, I do about half that between light and wall.
