Thank you for the recipe. Yesterday I baked this cake based on your recipe but....after reading some comments etc. I made kind of a fusion. Like soaking dates in coffee, adding coffee liquor and spices (cinnamon and nutmeg) using a deep glass container. It proved to work but had to bake approximately 50 Minutes before done. Very delicious! Thanks again for getting me started and also to those who brought in their recommendations.

My modifications: - Use hot whole milk instead of boiled water (I reduced the amount a little bit). - Add 125 ml of thick cream to liquid ingredients. - 1 3/4 cup of all purpose flour (instead of one). - Three medium eggs (instead of one). - One tablespoon of cinnamon to dry ingredients (more or less to your taste). - Reduce the amount of sugar to less than 1/2 cup (I think it’s enough but you can add more to your taste). - Instead of icing, I made a topping mixture which is: Two tablespoons of butter on a hot pan to make brown butter then add 1/3 cup of sliced almonds (you can use chopped pecans instead) and 3-4 tablespoons of brown sugar, mix all together for 5 min on a medium heat. Distribute the mixture on the top of cack butter just before baking. * It took 35 min in my oven. And ooh It was really really good and moist especially when it’s warm. Thank you very much for this amazing recipe that inspired me 🙏🏻

Hello, I just made this cake but I am afraid the changes I made did not it justice. I would really appreciate your feedback: 1. I used 1/2 cup of olive oil instead 2. Omitted sugar completely 3. I used ready made date paste with the same amount of water (I already had the paste), 4. added orange zest, cinnamon and cocoa (but I am happy with the additions). Can you advise on alternatives with no sugar and olive oil?
@Recipesaresimple3 жыл бұрын
Ready made date paste and olive oil would certainly change the taste a lot. I never played around with this recipe since it’s such a favourite. How was the texture of your cake? I will work on a sugar free cake soon.

@@Recipesaresimple The batter was very watery so I guess we need more flour or maybe whisk more the oil. It is delicious but it ended up like a pudding more than a cake. It did not rise enough and needed more baking time.
