Alan’s recoil project is so expansive and was really quite ahead of its time. There’s so much going on in the music you have to keep going back to listen again. so much depth and atmosphere . Every element has been thought out to the last detail. Alan has remained such an inspiration to me, not just sonically but his approach, his attitude and his complete honesty both in his words and music. He’s never sacrificed his integrity for what the world deems as fame and attention and i have the upmost respect for that. it’s rare and that’s one of the reasons i have such admiration for him.

I find Black Box to be engrossing. It captures the energy of the terror of having ones life flash before them just before it ends in an inescapable, violent impact. Alan brings a deeply personal and human element to this tragedy that he witnessed, in his handling of every detail of the composition.

Very interesting and quite disturbing. These themes of violence, death, intoxication, etc. I don't drink, haven't drunk alcohol since my twenties, not that it matters. But people are so ingrained in social customs like drinking: if you don't join in, they think you are a misfit of some kind in society. I always had to say: "No I don't drink, I am teetotal." "I don't want even one glass of alcohol, I'll stick to tea." A shame the attitudes to drinking are not the same as on the continent, they drink with meals in Europe; it is part of their culture.
