Hey Jacquire, thanks for putting this out. This is all fantastic knowledge that you're sharing. I have a technical question regarding your preamp and patchbay setup. Do you run your preamps through your TRS patchbay(s) and connect the mic to the patchbay, or do you bypass all patchbays and connect the mic directly to the preamp? I'm setting up a home studio and am trying to decide what the "best" solution is for functionality, but also for the safety of the equipment. I've read that running phantom power through a TRS patchbay can potentially fry the electronics of other connected equipment if you're not careful with your patching, so it may be best to use an XLR patchbay (which can safely handle phantom power) for mics that run directly to the preamps. I've ran phantom power through TRS patchbays before and was very careful when setting up the signal flow, but I'm curious to know how professional studios and engineers like yourself approach that topic. Any insight you can share regarding patchbays/mics/phantom power would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance man.

Everything goes through the patchbay. It’s high quality mogami wire and the patchbays are from Redco.

Obviously you need to be careful with phantom power but done correctly the patchbay is the professional setup. Best wishes! 🤙

1176 variants, LA2A, Retro 176, & UA 176 are the main ones but I’ll find whatever sounds best if those don’t feel great
