Fredrik just joined at that point and Axe had been in the band for like a year, so yeah basically a new band.

You picked the most upbeat song from their softest album lol the rest of Damnation is a little more bleak than Closure.

That run at the end of the Lotus Eater solo is gorgeous. I can't play that cleanly at half speed.

Sadly, I was late to the OPETH party (and late to this thread) but I’m sure it’s been said this was the first new observation for both Fredrik & Axe with the band, and oh what a “Watershed” moment (pun firmly intended) it was! I feel like Mikael already knew this was going to be the turning point for him & the band. This album was the dividing line and the name of the album was the perfect harbinger of what was to come…… It’s still my favorite OPETH record (until the next one!) and one of my favorite albums of any band, ever(.) What a beautiful beast it was and still is, every time a spin it! 🤘🏼🖤🔥

Oh, yeah. I have this. It came with the CD. Old School Alert. Yes, I buy CDS whenever I can. I transfer them to a Sony Minidisk player. So there. Old School is the Best School. All I ask is you don't call me a Luddite. Love your show, Lady L. 🤘😎🤘 💿 P.S. This is Axe's first album with Opeth. He gives a funny story on how he joined the band. I quote: "Uh, excuse me. My bookcase is on fire "

I remember watching this dvd when a friend got the special edition of the album and we watched it over and over to try and learn the guitar parts they played. Good times!

This is one of those albums that I like better as the years go by. I liked it when it came out, but it's also probably the last Opeth album that I've really loved. And I've liked everything they've put out, even after leaving death metal behind. I like prog. Opeth has always had some of the most soulful guitar solos of the metal genre, and Watershed might be the peak for them. For now. The solo in "Will o the Wisp" was pretty fucking great, though. I also love that Mikael and Fredrik are so in sync without even a click track.

I'm so into Scandinavian rock and metal right now (I'm in my early 50's and wished I had discovered this music scene sooner). Volbeat from Denmark, led me to Ghost, which led me to Opeth. These bands are so interesting because their music incorporates elements of so many different genres, styles and time periods. Lauren, I would love to see you review a song by Volbeat (perhaps one of their heavier songs like "Shotgun Blues" , "Becoming", or their cover of Metallica's "Don't Tread On Me"). The singer for Volbeat is amazing and is often referred to as "Metal Elvis" because of his clean, melodic style and his ability to sing anything from rockabilly & country to thrash & death metal.

Michael Paulson and Volbeat..Yes! Don't Tread on Me is so much better by Volbeat. It's got oomph, whereas with Metallica, it's quite boring to me. I love the live version from Wacken of 'Still Counting' by Volbeat, and of course there are many more.

When I picked up the bass (my older brother's bass while he was out) back in the day I was totally inspired by Orion by Metallica - I know it's quite mainstream, but worth checking out for the bridge section. Cliff Burton was amazing!

For more than 20 years Morningrise was my favourite Opeth album. But after watching your Watershed's reaction, I changed my mind and that is now my favourite album. Maybe when you react to more Morningrise songs 🙏 (you only did To Bid You Farewell) I will change my mind again...who knows?
