Just bought one of these 2 months ago for uber deliveries. 1.4 twin port 88 bhp, design top of the range model with twin sunroofs, cruise control, on 47500 miles, FSH , 1 years mot, Diamond Black, (best colour). Drives tight, they dont have much power/torque but its a town smoker. Better value than a Corsa due to the space inside. Mines has no timing chain racket but does have a leaking oil press sensor so thats been ordered. They are 140 quid for 6 months tax and definitely not cheap to insure for some bizarre reason. Im 53 with 38 years NCB yet its still a hefty 600 bangers a year.....should be half that! Insurance is a con anyway so that is the price so that is that. On these regular oil filter changes are a must. Paid £1200 it will still be worth that in 12 months with 67000 miles. So that is Nice Action! I bet Judith had a musty box with little traction!

Got 2 Merivas, a 1.4 and a VXR. Our 1.4 we have had for 14 years and has 126000 miles. The VXR makes me smile every time I drive it. The seating in the back is very generous when in 2+2 mode.

I had a 56 plate 1.6 with the twin sunroofs, cracking little car, changed it for a 1.8 petrol freelander , one of my big regrets

Thanks for this. It explains why my son's partners cars lambda sensor failed 6 weeks after it was replaced and the intermittent oil light snd oil weep in the engine bay. Now i know what I am looking for and what to replace. Excellent video and channel.

I quite like those old Meriva's, it's old school, don't see many of them around these days which is a shame, although years ago, I had a 1.2 Corsa, Y reg I think it was, and that had to have a steering column which set me back a few hundred ££'s at the time 😢😢

I had a 2002 corsa 1.2 for my first car and I took it all the way from merseyside to Cornwall and it broke down on the way home because the oil pressure switch popped open and spilt oil everywhere ! Recovery stuck a bolt in it to get me home 😂 always carried a spare in the boot just incase it happened again !

Having watched these vids started noticing how dealers pitch prices. Near me a corner plot have cars in the 7k to 10k range, must think area a bit posh. Only problem on corner near traffic lights so punters can't just stop and look. Plot there seems to go empty for a while then refills, bit strange. Went past a bit poorer area noticed some nice cars in the 1500 to 2500 range. Modern cars are no longer old bangers or scruffy at that price.

Hi there jack, my sales come from passing trade, facebook and youtube via this channel. Around 70% local walk on. Otherwise autotrader does work but very expensive and FB can work on the cheaper end of the market. Not much knowledge on motors but I know its not a patch on AT but its far cheaper to run motors.co.uk and ebay

How do you rate replacement chains on these? I used to do a few of them and found that if someone fitted a cheap chain they failed within a few thousand miles. Fit a proper chain kit and change the oil more frequently and the chains would last for huge mileages.

Yes they are so cheap the chain kits now the OE ones its not worth chancing it with the cheap euro part and knock off chain kits. like you say they seem to fail within a short period.

That Meriva is a bargain. Well done. Looks modern enough but not so modern that intrusive control tech is likely to be a problem. Low miles. If you fix any existing problems, do a basic service, cambelt if present and not yet changed, I’d bite your arm off at £1995. What’s the MOT status? Tyres and brakes? Make a fine family car if you’ve one newer car and find yourself with sprogs. Their lifespan can be indefinite if the owner wanted to keep it.

Its chain driven and looks to have been done as mentioned in the video, we always but 12 months on vehicles we sell. Did a check on it today and its down for x2 tyres, rear brakes, service kit and drive belts so far on pre check

Had 09 plate one of these in dark blue ran it up and down motorway daily and topping oil up every week and water daily it all disappeared somewhere but none dry under car and kept over heating, fan come on and couldn’t be bothered to sstop and the engine blew up no oil or water 🤣

Hi Lee! Love your honest comment on the Vauxhall Meriva. I've currently got the 2004 1.6 8v Petrol Enjoy model with 61,000 miles for over 18 years,. It's had bucket loads of faults including electric power steering, engine rebuild, gear linkages, ecu, fan cooler and I've retained it due to cheap parts to replace, thanks largely with the AA warranty garage and parts repairs, cheap regular car servicing, low car insurance with annual car tax of £315 and ULEZ compliant. It's starting now to show its age and maybe it's time to look for another car. Anyway keep up the excellent work and humour 😅
