In this video, we’re going to show you 5 effective methods on how to fix the “HDMI port not working on PC” issue in Windows.

5 Solutions on How to Fix the “HDMI port not working” Issue
Method 1: Check HDMI Cable Connection
Start by checking your HDMI cables and look for signs of wear and tear. In case of physical damage, you’ll have to buy a new HDMI cable to establish a successful connection. However, if the cable isn’t physically damaged, unplug it from your PC and wait for a couple of minutes. And then reconnect the HDMI cable and see if you start receiving video output on the external monitor or not.
Method 2: Run Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter
Open up the command prompt by using the Cortana search and type CMD. Then right-click on the command prompt and click run as administrator and a new window will appear. Type "msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic" and then hit enter. A new window will appear for troubleshooting hardware and devices. Click next and allow the program to diagnose and troubleshoot any issues that you have on your PC.
Method 3: Change Display Settings
Step 1 - Press “Windows+P” to launch the Display Settings menu.
Step 2 - Here you’ll see four different options.
PC Screen Only - This will only use the first display.
Duplicate - This will duplicate the content on both the displays
Extend - This will stretch the entire screen content on both the displays.
Second Screen Only - This will show content only on the second display.
Choose the right setting as per your requirement. Since you want the content to be displayed on the second display, you’ll have to choose one of the last three options.
Method 4: Update or Reinstall your Graphics Driver
Step 1 - Simultaneously press “Windows+X” and click “Device Manager”.
Step 2 - Expand the “Display Drivers” option.
Step 3 - Right-click your primary display drivers and click “Update Driver”.
Step 4 - Choose “Search Automatically for Drivers” if you want to download drivers from the Internet.
Step 5 - Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the downloading process.
Once the graphics driver is successfully updated, restart your PC and try making the HDMI connection again.
Method 5: Set HDMI Device as Default
Step 1 - Right-click the volume icon and choose “Open Sound Settings”.
Step 2 - Scroll down and tap “Sound Control Panel”.
Step 3 - Opt for the desired playback device under the “Playback” tab and hit the “Set Default” button.
That’s how you can fix the HDMI not working issue in Windows 10. Hope those methods are helpful.

I'm so tired of Microsoft updates messing up my Laptop with updates, I've spent hours trying to get various things to work again following such updates, even including my printer and scanner. It's really frustrating when you sit down to get some work done and then have to spend time getting your computer working properly so you can complete some simple task. From the latest update my screen sharing is gone along with my HDMI. Why are they allowed to remove features your computer had when you bought it and you've been using it for years, or consider this good practice. It seems they'd like me to upgrade to Windows 11 from some of the things that have come up during my attempts to sort this mess out. In the meantime I'm grateful that my car manufacturer doesn't feel the need to come by my house to remove things like heated seats, air conditioning, or other features from my car to encourage me to buy a new one.

@@lacasadepiano3781 Your response is most timely as I spent a couple of hours yesterday getting my laptop up and running after an update took out my network card's ability to connect to the internet. Thankfully, if that's the right terminology, my wife's Chromebook had a similar issue after an MS update, 2 months ago, so I had bought a USB wifi device which I could use to get working WiFi on my laptop and then get the internal WiFi device up and running - it makes sorting issues out really hard when everything relies on you having WiFi to fix a problem, which is fine until the problem is no Wifi. I think calling it tiresome was the understatement of the year :)

Hey guy, your explanation is clear & precise. good job. I have a HDMI problem. I update the graphic card and somehow the update was no completed with errors. I opened the Device Manager and found that there are "yellow triangles" on the AMD cards. I use the diagnostic method you taught and it seems the error was detected and a restart message was also shown. However, after a restart, the Yellow Triangles are still there and therefore HDMI is still undetected. Can you help ? Thanks

I use a small 23 " screen, HDMI works fine. I switch to a big 55" screen, I get HDMI no signal. When the PC is booting, the screen is working, when windows is loading (blue flag and spinning white dots) the screen is working, when it comes on, I get no signal. This started when I update from windows 8.1 to 10. I guess it's putting some settings that can't display on the big TV which is very bad since the screen goes black and you can't change. When I pull the cable out and put it back on the small display it works. The screen is super zoomed in for like 1 second (which tells it changed the settings when connected to the big screen) but it automatically adjusts to the appropriate resolution for the small screen. Please advise if there's a solution to this.
