Finally found my first new biome: the ancient city. I found it along a badlands biome along a river, and at the end of the river there was a massive drip stone sink hole that opens all the way down into the middle of a ancient city. Chest Boats would be ideal for player made factories along waterways where a player could pull up in a boat, load the chest via a hopper, while other players work or the automatic farm continues. It's actually very industrial and a bit ingenuous in function. I do however wonder if a Chest Boat could be unloaded via a hopper as well. 🤨

@@ReaperX7 you could imagine in honour-system based economy servers (ex-Hermitcraft types, where people trust others to pay honestly), you come on a chestboat, park it in a stall, place 10 diamonds in a barrel, and hoppers unload 15 stacks of sand into the boat. It would work even better on bedrock, since you could hide the hoppers, and push them out to unload items when payment is recieved.
@ReaperX72 жыл бұрын
@@rudrodeepchatterjee delivery service would become a thing and boats would become very useful. It would also spark improvements to waterways to open up areas and create more canals. I could even see large scale mining and resource gathering operations between players using boats to shuttle things around without having to rely on the nether. Load up a boat chest full of packed Shulker boxes, and transport them down a river or across an ocean, and even then, tie then into a shulker unload and load system on whatever end is needed. I'm going to say this is a real quality of life improvement function. It's minor and isn't the same as someone with an Elytra gling back and forth through the Nether, but even then, when you're bypassing dangerous areas and just exploring in single player, it's still a useful mechanic. For servers this could take off big time. If we could get boats with leads in Java though, you could probably string Chest Boats with Llamas together for even more capacity.

IMHO one of the best uses for chest boats comes from putting one in a minecart (yes, that's a thing), as you can now have a single rail line distribute items across two or three rows of hoppers. Very neat in combination with a multi-hopper speed filling system to distribute items across many furnaces in a large, yet simple furnace array. Before the chest boat, filling two rows of hoppers with a single rail line was only possible using a piston bolt, since that lets the minecart snap to the left and right in an alternating fashion, thus overlapping both rows of hoppers. And the neat thing is: You can even dispense a boat and a minecart and have one pick up the other in a fully automated way and send off as many as needed to distribute all the items.

While I agree that chest boats will be most useful early game (especially if you go after shipwrecks and buried treasure early), I don't think they're totally useless later. Or, rather, I think they have a purpose even if they are useless. What I mean is, in Minecraft, there are a lot of super-efficient ways to do things, but sometimes (and some people) prefer to do things in a way that is cool or feels organic rather than the most efficient. So, for instance, it seems like a lot of people set up their wheat farms to look like real-life fields, which isn't necessarily the most efficient way to do it in game. And I think the chestboat could be really cool if you want to use it as a thematic element--deliberately build parts of your base along the water so you can travel between it via boat. Also, slightly unrelated, I wish we could attach banners to our boats or dye them so that they could be truly customizable.

My guess, as someone who little bit familiar with the code of the game, is that the game from 1.19 and beyond now saves last death position and dimension in the player's NBT, but since you have died only before 1.19 the NBT data about that death wasn't recorded (why would it be, there was no need for that), which is pretty unfortunate, but Mojang obviously can't do anything about it except for time travel

Mm once you have elytra and shulker boxes, its not really useful no, unless gunpowder or paper are at a premium... However, its a mostly iron-light transport method for fairly early on, just need buckets or ice, there's redstone capability, and its altogether interesting. Plus in pvp situations you can preclude any enemies hopping in your boat by filling that space... definitely interesting flavor. If you can get end chests in the mid term, you can definitely transport a fair amount of items between that, the chest and your inventory between bases or build sites. There's definitely issues that its primarily gonna be no up and down movement available until you have small scale bubble elevators to act as boat locks... The biggest thing is that the nomadic, exploring and adventure playstyle hasn't gotten an upgrade for a while, and this would make it easier to start searching for saddles too. Of course, the main draw for minecraft are the very pretty or fun builds, but yeah! Inventory management is fun and all, but solutions for it are always good. This is a good solution to needing big bunches of sand early on for some kinds of farms.
