When you mentioned the doors opening and closing with the sensors, I immediately thought of a ever changing maze. A Maze that could only be solved by sneaking and not sneaking in just the right places.

@@Pixlriffs true. The warden seems to be kinda odd to tell where it would be on a difficulty scale. On one hand, the warden can 2 shot Netherite, on the other hand, I started a world where a city can be accessed right from spawn, I summoned a warden, angered it, and still surived by just accidentally running into the redstone room and ceiling off the door and waiting at the back wall for it to go away while I had like nothing In my inventory.

There's actually a neat implied lore thing with the sculk and endstone resemblance: Endstone's inverted-cobblestone appearence implies a kind of pitted structure like bone or coral, implying that sculk may actually be native to or related to the stuff native to the End before the dragons arrived and destroyed most of it.
@velvetvioletta

Love the underneath texture on that sculk catalyst. Sort of funny that you said you weren't sure if anyone would want it as a ceiling, because my literal first thought on seeing it was 'oh wow, perfect ceiling boss'. That's ceiling boss as in the architectural feature (fancy carved bits in vaulted ceilings) not some kind of scary monster that drops on you from above... in case it wasn't obvious.

A really neat idea (and one that I might do in my world) could be to have the sculk be the floor surrounding the corridors and to create so small bridges to the structures that aren't directly connected to the corridors, that way it's almost like looking out into the void when you look out of the corridors with just a "floating" city in it. You could also cover the outside of the corridors with deepslate to keep that dark feeling of the ancient city, while being able to decorate the interior any way you like.

First you need to locate an ancient city - without tools, weapons and armor that task itself is difficult. Then put on top of that clearing out all of the shriekers and making quick escape if Warden spawns - and even if you're super careful it will spawn sooner or later. My advice - early in the game stick to the Overworld.

Hi Pix…I have been a longtime fan and supporter of yours. I started watching your videos when you were at around 40,000 subs, from what I can remember. I was even a member of your Patreon for quite a while, but I had to stop for financial reasons. I then felt kind of guilty watching your videos since I stopped contributing. However, I started watching again and have mostly been listening to The Spawn Chunks lately and am making my way through the older episodes. I just finished listening to your 100th episode, and you and Joel are like friends as I make my long journey to and from work every weekday (nearly 3 hours of driving per day!). As I listen and watch you play Minecraft and see how much you love to build, I have found myself often wondering if you have ever considered playing The Sims 4. I kind of got my answer at the end of that 100th episode in the after-show when you talked with Joel about how you are hesitant to get involved with other games for fear of getting sidetracked from Minecraft, your bread and butter. Joel was talking about how much he enjoyed playing Satisfactory, which is what led to the discussion. I understand why it would be difficult to take the chance of changing your focus, but I am still very interested in whether you have ever played and what you thought of it. I was first and foremost a Sims player until I discovered Minecraft back around the transition between 1.11 and 1.12. I find that they are both very different games with a lot of the same themes…creativity, building, a backstory, and lots and lots to do. I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts if you have played. Thank you so much for all of your wonderful content. It has been and will continue to be, I’m sure, a wonderful experience consuming your content. I also wanted to mention how impressed I have always at your ability to talk as you play rather than doing voice overs. I don’t know how you do that!

Unfortunately, on Bedrock, there is a bug where hostile mobs can still spawn in ancient cities and the deep dark, making exploration and perusal of said structures a fair bit harder. Luckily, I was just able to acquire a recovery compass, a bunch of enchanted gear and amethyst shards, and the two latest Minecraft music discs from the city while only triggering 2 shriekers in total. It wasn't super fun trying to deal with mobs while crouching around the ramparts and especially the loot chests, but it was worth it lol

I’ve been finding a lot of things that benefit from adding Lush Cave elements. Jungles with dripleafs, glowberry vines and maybe azaleas(particularly trees) are pretty good looking. I also like to terraform parts of the jungle floors with the terraced pools separated by clay that are characteristic of lush caves. Nice little glades for axolotls. Adding a few lush cave plants to a dripstone cave can literally and figuratively brighten the place up. In his dripstone cave I’d only do that in moderation. Add a little light toward the ceiling and in patches on the surface. I think you’d want to keep some dark spots(with other means of spawn-proofing…)

In 2 of the Ancient Cities I explored there was a sculk sensor and 2 sculk shriekers inside the icebox. I had warnings and it was a great, sneaky way to trigger a warden warning. I wish they did this more, 4 shrieks is too easy to avoid spawning the Warden in my opinion, I think on Hard mode it should be 2 or 3. Another great video Pixlriffs!

I conquered the ancient city on bedrock a while ago and finally got it all lit up. I had a mineshaft on top which I based in and there was a single shrieked in there where I can summon the warden without getting caught- - -which is helpful because I keep stepping on the shirkers and sensors. Currently the last thing I did on the world was keep copying the backup as I have a ruined portal with lava under water and I really want that lava specifically so I can get to the nether already. I can get lava in the city but I see it as a challenge.

Also for city raiding I only used three stacks. Not sure if having the mineshaft and being able to have a water elevator up and down contributes to that though. My city oddly didn’t seem all that hard.

Like I haven’t died to the warden once yet and now it can only spawn in that one spot. I have no clue if this counted as cheesing it.

Have you noticed the Wool piles in the ancient city are the same palette as the ones in woodland mansions?

Pixlriffs a few episodes ago: We're gpnna avoid the Warden as much as possible for respecting the developers' intention. Pixlriffs now: We might farm the Warden in the future. Ah yes, my favorite game. Minecraft: Farming simulator, when you can farm virtually everything!

I think you should add another chapter to the imagined legend of the deep dark in which a group of scientist and archaeologist enter the deep dark trying to understand what happened by performing experiments and research. Perhaps their experiments expose them to unpredicted dangers. Perhaps they learn the source of the skulk virus and try to prevent it from destroying the world.
