One year when I was about to have my son's 10th birthday (he's almost 32 now) our gas stove broke. I was planning on making his cake that morning. I ended up mixing up the batter and I used my sandwich maker that was just like yours to bake it. I ended up with a bunch of little triangle cakes that I put on a platter then drizzled with the frosting that I warmed up a bit. The kids absolutely loved it!! We baked many cakes like that for several years. They loved it every time! 🎉😂😊❤

Toastie machine. Grew up with infomercials from K-Tel. Mom had a Breville or the Sunbeam toastie maker, think was 1981 or 82, by 85 I was allowed to use the hallowed toastie machine and make toasties, made a round of cheese and ham. Cheese and Pickles, cheese and tomato, if you felt decadent enough and rich enough to buy Heinz Toast topper, and served it with Heinz Tomato soup. I often wonder if was the margarine that we used on our bread and coated the hot plate that destroyed the entire non stick coating? We never bothered with breakfast sandwiches, except cheesy baked beans (Heinz). I admit that is a prime example of a Scottish child’s diet. Solid bean pizza pocket! My other staple was banana, peanut butter and chocolate spread. Uh Think was K-Tel and Ronco based infomercials, however after 1986 QVC became the main shopping channel I had the George Grill, and the exactly the same issue is the non stick, and the mess. Now Air fryer what a delectable Gadget.

I was a Freshman in college in the mid '90's. My roommate had one of these, and there was sandwich truck that parked near our dorm what sold bologna and cheese sandwiches on white bread. We put hundreds of those bologna and cheeses through the Snakmaster. We generally used Pam cooking spray, too. This elevated the sandwich to the point that we felt like we were eating "real" food. On weekends, if we'd managed to get hold of some eggs, we'd do scrambled eggs, which worked great. One time we attempted to make "chili pockets" using sliced bread and canned chili. It was a mess and we never tried that again. We loved out Snakmaster.

I had one of these in the late 80s early 90s. I was a teen, latchkey kid (class of 92), used the sandwich maker when I came home from school (sandwich maker was a latchkey kid's best friend!) . The only surefire way to prevent sticking was to use butter, always, instead of cooking spray. Butter will keep it moist & prevent anything from sticking, without butter things will stick & come out with a dry coating. Same for eggs, always butter, no matter what it is. Cooking spray evaporates too quickly & will result in a more drier piece of bread, or food item and more of a chance of sticking.

These are common in Australia and still popular. I grew up in the 90s also and we call them Jaffles or Breville after the brand of sandwich maker most common here. Usually we put ham and cheese, cheese and tomato, or baked beans as a filling! I was taught to put two pieces of buttered bread together and ingredients on top of that. Then you lift the first layer into the machine with butter side facing down and ingredients facing up. Then you add the second slice on top, butter side facing up. You get a really nice caramelisation as it browns and makes it less sticking.

Hey Emmy! I made a really good sandwich today, out of leftovers, and I thought you might like to try it. I was inspired by your “hard times” series! Ingredients: leftover seasoned steak grease, black beans, shredded mozzarella cheese, brioche buns, one egg. It was all I had available. I had been extremely ill recently and unable to work-but I was prepared to go without any meat since I couldn’t afford more groceries today. So- I fried everything up in the steak grease in a cast iron pan- turned it into a sort of black bean burger! Egg was over easy and I just sautéed the leftover beans & cheese, and made the buns nice and toasty golden brown. Last minute my sister said “hey, mom & dad got those steaks for us, so you can have some” and I was able to also add New York strip to my sandwich lol! what a nice gift😊 I learned grilling/frying in seasoned steak butter is wonderful at making anything taste gourmet! I hope you’ll try it with and without the steak strips! Thank you for inspiring me!

OMG...so, like about two weeks ago, a friend girl at work gave me one of these. I mean, exactly the same!! I am so gonna try the breakfast one.... Plus, back in the day, I would butter and garlic powder the bread, hot side down...fill them with leftover spaghetti (sauce & noodles mix) and cook them in hat contraption.. My kids (and I) LOVED THEM!! AWESOME after school snack ❤

This was one of the few Infomercial projects my family bought. I loved it! I wonder if my parents still have theirs.

Love your videos Emmy. I'm from the UK and toastie makers are very common over here, Toasties/toasted sandwiches are a quick easy snack to eat and are quite popular, we even order them in cafes. xx

Had one of these in my kitchen as a kid. Used it to make grilled cheeses all the time. Mine didn't have the fluted design though.

Lol! I grew up watching my Mom amd Dad smack the biscuit roll tube on the counter edge! So dramatic! Us kids used to love watching them do that and hear that pop!

I'm totally going to use the term "over toasting" from now on whenever I cook something and there are burnt bits! 😂

We call them Toasty maker. I have one, but mine is not Vintage. Always nice to have one at hand for a lovely snack.

Walmart had a single style one on their black Friday small appliances sale. You know the mini waffle makers and the ramen pot and a sandwich press lol

@@Emeraldwitch30 That sounds good. I am in the UK, sadly we do not have a Walmart here but my Son lives in the US so I might ask him.

I remember that infomercial too! I bought a similar appliance on Amazon and had the same result you did with the cinnamon rolls.

Childhood memory unlocked! My aunt had one of those when I was a kid. I had completely forgotten about it. I can remember the taste of the pizza sandwich now

Fun fact: Those pizza pockets is basically what we call a toast in Greece: two slices of factory bread toasted on a small grill with any filling you would like in between, but most commonly a slice of gouda and turkey ham. It is a very beloved breakfast here especially for young children. You can even eat it uncooked if you are in a hurry and it still tastes delicious.

Toasties!! We still use ours but I haven’t used it in ages. My fav used to just be crack an egg in between 2 slices of bread for an egg toastie and butter outside. My sisters fav is cheese

Emmi I know you may never see this but if you ever do I hope you know you've helped me so much just by making videos. I watch them every night for bedtime because I struggle with really bad PTSD and anxiety. They help me let my mind off things and get to sleep. Thank you for being such a safe space for me and everyone else. 💖

I had something similar growing up, a breville toaster, and we would make cheese toasties and pizza style toasties too. The only difference was we would butter the outside of the bread before toasting rather than oiling the toaster, this would give it a almost fried outside, no sticking and a beautiful golden coat. I'd highly recommend. You can achieve something similar in a George Forman grill. I did so when my parents breville toaster from the 80s gave up the gun.
