Great idea! Very well done! I would have never thought to add the wire to hold the bark. I have some copper wire that I think would look nice as a contrasting color. The bent metal looks great for the legs. Love the whole design !!! Thanks for posting and for the inspiration !!

Thank you for the idea. I like ike especially because there's no welding and it seems so easy to make. I live by a dried up riverbed and there's plenty of free wood out there. Great idea to start making now for Christmas presents!

First of all well done, i really like your idea..if maybe i can give my small suggestion for others who surely are going to be making one for themselves, i found that a hinge drilling bit or a wide enough forster drill bit to make a better job of making the holes :)

great tip...I just harvested some down birch fresh off a tree. Plan to cut to size, dry on low temp in my oven. I do have Forstner bits I can use.

Nice one. Before trying to cut a circle into bark for t lights, use a chisel to gentlypress into the edge of the circle and slowly chisel / lever it out. Saves the bark flying offfrom the areas that you want to keep it.Thks

Great concept. Simple yet lovely and useful. I might make a few of these as gifts. If you decide to seal the bark you might want to consider - first allowing the wood to dry completely, fewer future issues with shrinkage and distortion. Second use with a PVC glue (white school glue, Elmer's, etc), or even water-based Varathane or other similar products. I would recommend several coats of the latter. It is available in several finishes and great for many surfaces. I know someone that made a votive holder from uncured wood, he coated it in resin. It was stunning. Beyond awesome. However, the resin he selected was not compatible with open flames. Between the wood changing a bit as it cured and open flames near resin - he had a small house fire. I work with resin in other applications but never near flames.

Hi. I did this project in Iran, so that's where I got the wires from. But you can look for them in Hardware shops. THey are 'Tie Wires' and are used for roofing, gardening, etc. They are Mild Steel and easily bendable by hand. TY Saeid
