What she didn't do was filter that used oil. Bits and pieces of the fish crumbs were at the bottom. I always reuse my oil a few times before discarding it and now I'll store it for future soap making. Thanks for sharing.

We would 'salt' the soap. It seperates all the grime in the oil, help make it clean and white and extremely hard. Also get rid of any extra lye if it was lye heavy.

Can someone explain why the oil would not be filtered to remove the food particles from it? This is amazing! I just wonder how much the soap would smell like the food cooked in it.

Hi, thank you for your question! It all depends on the quality of oil received from the restaurant! The one filmed in the video was actually filtered by the owners of the place, so we decided not to waste time on it. In our experience filtering of oil only partly helps with reducing the smell. I would say an only tiny bit. Filtering does though help with getting the lighter color of oil & soap. The best way to reduce the smell is a process of saponification. We will share a video soon on the process of filtering oil separately!

Bangkok Soap Opera thank you so much! And what oils are typically used in Thailand to fry? This would also have to be taken into consideration when using a lye calculator. I love this idea though and wonder how to approach local restaurants. This would be an amazing selling point!

It all depends on the level of restaurant. Such place on the video is using Palm oil. But some more developed restaurants using more healthy alternative Olive oil or Soy bean. This weekend we were recycling oil in Kuala Lumpur & it was a mixture of palm+ pea nut!

Where are you located? Just approach them. There is no other secret. And start doing the recycling soap even without restaurants. Start with your own household, start with your friends, then the community. When people see that you not only talk & belive but DO, what you are talking about. This feeling when your heart is burning & eyes are sparkling. Everyone will get lightened!
