Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge - Testing Basic Defenses

Pillbox and Sentry Gun is the basic defensive structure of the Allied and Soviet factions respectively. They are completely identical in power and armor so a comparison between each other was quite pointless.
One question that needed to be answered was whether the Pillbox has to rotate in order to attack. The answer is no. The Pillbox doesn't have to rotate in order to attack and this is what makes the Pillbox slightly better than the Sentry Gun despite their equal cost.
In the first test with the timer they both ended up attacking at two different direction in the exact same time. This happens because there is still delay between continuous attacks, something like attack speed. In such scenario it can be misleading and give the impression that the Pillbox has to rotate. So, by the time the "cooldown" of the attack speed is ready it gives time for the Sentry gun to rotate and attack once it faces the target while the Pillbox despite that it doesn't have to rotate and faces any target still has to wait for the attack speed "cooldown".
In the second test where we put aside the attack speed recharge time it's obvious that the Pillbox doesn't have to rotate. A target that will approach the Pillbox from any direction will be attacked instantly. As long as the next target comes in time when the Pillbox has recharged it's attack speed it will instantly again attack it despite being on the opposite direction.

The pillbox rate of fire is bad plus the low damage and hp the only good thing its the instant 360° fire but what do you expect its a concrete bunker with a dude inside firing a m60 lol while the soviets use a remote control sentry gun with vulcan dual 12.7 mm cannons and Yuris forces use a giant ciws that prob fires 30 mm.

The general idea is interesting, though: it would be cool if a G.I. left the pillbox when it‘s destroyed or sold.

You can totally exploit Gatling gun’s dps bonus by making it force attack ground and manually target enemy units whenever one comes close

So one thing I'm curious about with the Gatling Cannon. I know that as it fires continuously it gets some kind of bonus. Is it that it actually fires faster, i.e. less delay between attacks, or does it fire at the same rate but just do more damage?

Yeah, it's the former. Basically, its firing rate goes from shooting every 16th frame, to every 8th frame, to every 4th.

@@areoants9453 Yes and no. Gatling Cannon actually has separate attacks against air and ground according to the .ini files. Against air, the both the damage and the firing rate go up, especially the firing rate. Against ground, only damage goes up.

T rex is basically a super Brute. Faster speed, more health, insane damage vs everything. Like the Brute, it cannot be crushed by tanks or attacked by Dogs. A Battle Fortress might be able to crush it...maybe.

Great video tg! Also could you make another video testing *Elite Pillbox* ?, I think Allied Pillbox is upgraded to elite when it destroys an enemy MCV already deployed or Construction Yard. I don't remember if that worked in both Red Alert 2 or Yuri's Revenge but I think it only worked in Yuri's Revenge.

TibEd is an INI/CSF editor. Buildings and Aircraft being forbidden from using waypoints is hardcoded into the game engine. So your question should be: "maybe [random Hex Editor]?"

im pretty sure that the 'lore' of the game supports this...like, i think i see a machinegunner, in the pillbox, in the buildlist menu picture thingy...since it doesnt need a Power Plant to run, and doesnt have a turret to swivel, itd make sense... ...but then again, theyre also radiation-proof, dog-proof, and immune to non-Prime mind control, so they arent "human" in the same bio-organic way as, say, a GI or Conscript...

Or you can look at the rules and determine that the Pillbox has no (i.e. infinite) ROT and no turret trait, while the Sentry Gun has a finite ROT and a turret.

Gatlling Cannons lose some (and sometimes all) of it's charge if it did a 180+ Degree rotation, give it a test. :3 Btw if i am not mistaken you can number buildings, just sayin, it will help you with testing. ^-^

0:38 you weren't supposed to test them like that. You should've built them close and shift-selected them together, with force-fire on ground, rather than use a timer. There's absolutely no delay in the Pillbox's firing aside from reloading. A delay the Sentry Gun has too. By the time the Sentry Gun has finished rotating, the Pillbox has already finished firing. You shouldn't have used timers here, but a custom map. There's no delay whatsoever outside reloads.

You'll notice by the time the Sentry Gun has finished rotating, the Pillbox has already started firing. tg shouldn't have used timers here; he should've used a custom map. There's no delay whatsoever outside reloads.

Hi, I haven't faced any problem of those you mention. Sometimes running an old game on newer software may cause some problems but so far everything works good with me. In any case, I suggest installing the cnc net launcher if you haven't.
