Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge - Testing Terror Drones

Terror Drones are available to all the Soviet factions for a price of 500 resources. They are quite unique units with a very interesting role and can become one of the most annoying units in the entire game.
Terror Drones can instantly kill any infantry units including Commandos and Brutes with a single strike. Brutes can not be killed by Dogs. Despite their low health, Terror Drones can not be matched in a single combat from any infantry except Boris and perhaps Chrono Legionnaire.
Despite their fast movement speed which may be the fastest in the game, Terror Drones are not considered good scouts because of their low vision.
Their real value starts to shine against vehicles where Terror Drones can cause chaos in a group of vehicles especially if you haven't noticed them. They can cause a significant amount of damage that any light vehicle and not only will be for sure destroyed before you can even have a chance to save them.
There are few ways of countering a Terror Drone but most times players are not prepared having to kill their own units in order to destroy the Terror Drones inside.
The most confusing part about Terror Drones is their armor. They are considered as vehicles but have a special type and this is why they take sometimes too much damage from weak forces and sometimes barely any damage from heavier ones.

I have to say, this might be one of the best designed units I have seen in RTS history. Its strong, yes, but it isnt broken like a certain hell-icopter for the allies in the 3rd game because of its low armor.

In Mental Omega mod, Terror drones are a little resistant to Gatling weapons, but can't jump on cyborg units which is fortunately rare.. also repair units are widespread (Engineer Stryker/Archon/Tsurugi for Allied, Repair Drone for Soviet, Engineer Stinger for Epsilon/Yuri, and Minermite for Foehn, plus the Rejuvenator), limiting use of Terror Drone outside of ambush (in case of Russia because of Terror Drop)and harrassing infantries especially infiltrating units

Real AOE damage but take into account the vehicle already occupied an entire cell so not as powerful as real bomb put directly in things.

I think in RA2 pre-Yuri's Revenge, you can deploy an MCV with a terror drone in it. The terror drone will get stuck inside the construction yard.

Terror drones got me out of a sticky situation more than once. I had failed to notice my opponent had a battalion of tanks and was only a few minutes away from steamrolling me. Built ten terror drones for very cheap and sent him running.

It seems like terror drones are a hard counter to any yuri player as anything but the slave miner and disc is vulnerable to them and they have no way to take them off. Also, desolators + terror drones have always been my go to area denial combo. Drones plus Ivans make some great kamikaze weapons as well

Well, in Mental Omega mod, Terror Drones can detect Spies too (as well as other disguising infantries, Saboteur, Infiltrator, Hijacker, Arsonist and Repulsor) but the dogs can swim while drones cant so it's fair game

Today I learned: The only redeeming quality of the Chrono Miner is that if it's infested with a Terror Drone, it can simply chrono to its refinery, and it'll be fine. No other miner--OH! Brutal AI opponents attack with 4 terror drones, and the target is a nearby vehicle. I can exploit the fact that they attack the Chrono miner first, especially if I don't have a service depot or repair IFV nearby. Because, Chrono miners can easily escape the drone by Chrono shift back to refinery

@ tg Hi tg, you forgot to test Terror Drones against level 3 war miner. From my memory a level 3 war miner regenerates health faster than the damage caused by Terror Drones. And if you repair the level 3 war miner which has a Terror Drone in it, the whole unit will just explode.

Idk which unit would explode when repaired but when tested, terror drone would just be removed(as it is always been like that) Movement speed wise, woth your claim, it is false, but since terror drone does more damage than war miner lv3 regen, it does slow it down, like in the video I think

Apocalypse Tank leaves behind a Shell explosion when it explodes which harms the Terror drone when it comes out at the exact moment, its an Aesthetic thing but is harmful for a terror drone.
